Republican Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger began the day on a cheerful note, suggesting that negotiations with Democratic leaders could lead to a budget deal as early as this week to help close the $42 billion shortfall that is projected through June 2010.

I'm sure Schwarzenegger will want a govt. bail-out too. The USA is in trouble because of the govt. and crooks like Madoff spending our money and not being responsible. Just a few months ago, if you'll remember, Bush said everything was great and we weren't in a recession, ecomonically stable was his words. I believe they are a bunch of errant thrieves, Bush and Cheney included. But, you know, I really feel so sorry for all those rich people in CA.... maybe the Schwarzenegger's, Kennedy's, and all the rest of their rich friends can pool their monies togather and help! Remember Carolyn Kennedy wants to be a Sentor but doesn't want to give a finiancial statement of her wealth. Whata you think?

We have a serious financial problem and your done for the year? Really? I don't care if you take Christmas day off, but If the state is facing a giant crisis like this you have to work through your normal Christmas break to solve the problem. Ugh politicians.

California isn't the first and last state to face this reality. I as a California resident say this is well deserved. While we're expanding our magical "405" freeway other states are increasing fees on their "transit" lines to make ends meet. Sorry but the state doesn't know what to do with money even when it has it, we could've invested in a modern infrastructure ages before I was even born, but in true fashion the state opted for a short sighted plan based on cars, which is based on consumers, which is based on consumers having money/jobs. Wow ingenious....
On a further side note/fun fact. Did you know that Los Angeles on average only has enough food reserves to feed the city for two weeks? That means if our food supply were cutoff it'd be two weeks before the city starved. Not very related but interesting anyway.
Well happy holidays, christmas, Hanukkah, ramadan, or observation of the earths rotation. I dunno just enjoy.

"There is a difference between conservative economic principles and the stance of today's Republican party. "
GOP economics are just variations on Adam Smith. Supply-side economics was, charitably, a misinterpretation of Smith. Less charitably it was, as Reagan's own budget director, David Stockman, called it: a trojan horse. I call it an outright fraud.
At about the same time, many GOPPERS were enamored of Milton Friedman's 'monetarism' --another discredited econoimc THEORY!
Basically, the GOP will do whatever it takes to enrich its base. The verifiable fact that since Ronald Reagan assumed the White House, wealth has NOT trickled down but has --by way of various tax cuts --FLOWED UPWARD. Official stats --Bureau of Labors Stats, Census Bureau, Department of Commerce - BEA ---all bear me out. As a result of GOP economics, a mere ONE PERCENT of the US population owns MORE than 90 percent of the population combined.
By whatever label or methodology, that was the GOP goal and they achieved it.
At last, nothing said by a GOP politician with regard to the economy can be believed. Most politicians will tell you whatever you want to hear. Republicans want to hear fairy tales and they get them.
And there is no use telling me that the Democrats are just as bad! If they had been, as many GOPPER politicians would have been assassinated, as many GOPPER politicians would have been targeted for smear jobs, as many GOPPER politicians would have been PLANE CRASHED!
The recent plane crash death is interesting in that it was a GOPPER --a gopper who knew too much about Bush!

Wait, I don't see how that disagrees with the concept that "GOPPERS" do not use conservative economics. In fact, you illustrated how "GOPPERS" used political power to directly influence economics... not very conservative.
As to the innocence of either party, as you seem so eagerly to believe the Democratic party is cleaner than the Republican party, I'd say off the top of my head that Abe Lincoln was a Republican, and a good deal of the smear campaigns of recent memory have been mostly of Republican senate members. Nobody is innocent in party politics. Our government was not built to have a two-party system originally, and there are many examples of damage done by their existence. A great majority of people that participate in our political system are more of a hinderance than a help by their automatic endorsement of one party or another without any attempt at critical thought. Just my not-so-humble opinion.

The GOP was hijacked by Reaganomics.
Reaganomics is not conservatism, it's for big federal government and big government spending. So yeah, modern Goppers are not conservatives in the economic sense.
They are brilliant politicians though- imagine convincing half the country to vote against their own economic interests due to their 'traditional' or religious values and prejudices. These are literate people too, which is the amazing thing. There used to be a time when a working-class person could vote for a republican to represent their financial interests. It was Eisenhower who warned us of the Military Industrial Complex.

There is a difference between conservative economic principles and the stance of today's Republican party. However, I've heard nothing but good things from Californians about Arnold, and I would not blame the current crisis their on him. I'm sure they weren't expecting to have to pay the billions in development of medical facilities for their prisons. The grey line between private and public is perfectly captured in these industrial complexes (military-industrial, prison-industrial, etc.). Also, a great deal of the housing markets collapse can directly be attributed to legislation drawn up by Democrats in the 1990s so...

First the Banks, then the automakers now whole States, where do the bailouts stop?? How many Democrats are CEO's of the car companies?? How many Democrats are investment bankers? How many Democrats run hedge funds?? How many Democrats are standing around with their hands out for billions of Taxpayer dollars?? The world is upside-down. Black is white. Forget what you know about politics and start over. These Republicans are the most liberal leaders the USA has ever know. But, keep in mind, they are only liberal when YOUR MONEY is involved.

I don't agree with any of the current bailouts so I don't know what you are trying to prove.
What does Enron have to do with anything? Worldcom was a larger bankruptcy. Clinton was the one who opened the door to options and later credit default swaps under the Commodities Reform Modernization Act of 2000. There is plenty of blame to go around. There is plenty of 'regulations' but the politicians are in it for themselves, all of them.
