Republicans to flee DC for inauguration

Image
bansheewail
While millions descend on Washington for the historic inauguration of Barack Obama on Jan. 20, some Republicans see it as an occasion to get out of town.

Out of power on both ends of Pennsylvania Avenue and mostly out of favor on K Street, many emasculated elephants in the GOP herd will begin the Age of Obama with what amounts to an extended holiday vacation. Instead of fighting the quadrennial cold and what are expected to be record-setting crowds, they're heading out to greener pastures, with better temperatures, less hassle and more agreeable company.

If the Democrats pulled a disrespectful stunt like this, we'd never hear the end of it.

    • John A I know that your comment comes from fear and ignorance. I am very happy that every white male in America does not think the same way that you do.

    • I think the only ones at war are the so called conservatives, I hope they leave for good, maybe they can move to Iraq or Israel where they have so much invested in killing innocent people.

    • The republicans have a bit of class... And this is the giving thing to do so that more of Obama's supporters can have access to the festivities. It means so much the people who really worked hard to get Obama in office.

“The Inauguration of Barack Obama will be a great moment for our country and the planners have a major logistical feat to pull off,” said Sheridan. “I figure I’m leaving a little extra room for my Democrat friends to enjoy it up close.”

Also as far as protesting, I don't think they are that interested in putting on a dog and pony show. Someone has to have sanity and stop the liberal/conservative war.

    • I didn't quite follow the Oprah book club comment. I have heard of Oprah, of course (Queen of Tawdry TV?). But what do Republicans and books have to do with each other? Republicans and clubs, yes. Republicans and books? You mean, like, PICTURE books? Or as in "cooked the books?" Or as in "constantly BEING booked?" Or as in Ann Coulter authoring a "book." Yeah, I know, a bridge too far...

    • Great idea Banshewail. You have the perfect response. Perhaps Palin could give them a tour since she can see Russia from her home maybe she will move there, but the Russians would not want her or her crew either.

    • For some reason the image that came to me was more along the lines of scared children running in all directions after lighting the fuse of a particularly large firecracker (read: stick of dynamite) on Independence Day. The bigger the stick the faster and farther they run. Thank heaven there are grown-ups around to grimly clean up the damage.

    • Leave, stay, or protest, I could care less. I just wish they would:

      1) Acknowledge they were hideously wrong about George Bush and the Bush administration's policies.

      2) Admit that their desire to see free market capitalism run America is a nightmarishly bad idea.

      3) Continue with their rascist, fundamentally religious, morally bankrupt drive to become a regional party of the South.

Thank you keithponder... if we recall the Republicans ran great campaigns on the basis that Democrats were godless sinners who condoned homosexuality, abortions, and interracial marriages. Fine time for someone to pull the biased vote card.

I would be leaving Washington purely because I don't like crowds. Same reason why I wouldn't celebrate NY at a big party, or NEVER in NYC times square.

I wonder if any others are a bit tired and just wanna go relax at home after the holidays with friends and watch Obama on TV?

Leave the extra seats for liberals who would have much more fun anyhow? That would be the giving thing to do.

    • That last comment in the article, "If the Democrats pulled a disrespectful stunt like this, we'd never hear the end of it. " It could be argued that the democrats done worse. If I recall correctly, the 2000 and 2004 inauguration was full of protesters. Some were holding signs that read "God Save Us" So. Would you rather have the Republican quietly leave D.C for a few days or would you rather them line the streets with picket signs?

      theives, what?!?!

pretty sure blago is a democrat trying to make paper off the senate seat, some may call that thievery....

al gore is raking it in with his 'carbon credits' company, and uses the press to promote it as a political issue...

and BO is going to make my parents salary just because they are successful...

in my mind the last is what i call, robbing, in the purest sense...

    • If your power is cut you look for a place that helps to regain power. For awhile the Republicans will wait for a screw up by people in power. Than they will come with a vengeance, storm Capitol hill and take over USA. Maybe they even burn capitol hill and build a palace of the elephant.

Oh yes. They should all go to Mexico or Latin America where starvation labor is available as that is what they call "free market capitalism." That is what they want for the USA.
