Apocalypse 2012?

Or are we simply facing the point at which the celestial circular calendar has reached its reset position?
Many people in the world are actually preparing for such a scenario as described in my first question above. I created this image because of my fascination with natural disasters and as an assignment for a Photoshop class. It was a lot of fun creating it using a variety of photographic techniques. For example, I used photographs of Christmas lights for the stars, and I used one of those Plasma Lights with electrical fingers around a diode for the solar eclipse.
I was watching this program on the History Channel just the other day called Nostradamus 2012 that tied the predictions of Nostradamus with the end of world apocalyptic tales of ancient civilizations such as the Maya, the Egyptians, and the Hebrews and Christians. They also compared Nostradamus 2012 predictions to Alchemy and even the Bible Code.
Central to their storyline was the precession of the earth and the 26000 year cycle of the Zodiac in which the earth will align with the sun and galactic center of the Milky Way causing extreme changes of Earth's magnetic field and changes to the earths atmosphere and oceans. http://www.history.com/shows.do?action=detail&episodeId=399006
It reminded me a lot about Zeitgeist and the astrological explanation of the Christ Myth; the fact that the fear mongering around the end of the age was simply that, fear mongering; when in fact, the earth is simply going to repeat a cycle that has been repeating for millions if not billions of years. http://www.zeitgeistmovie.com/
What is always in debate is just exactly how long has man been intelligent enough to make fires and make jewelry. Being able to do these two crucial things indicate a highly organized and civilized human culture. But many scientists still cling to modern man appearing around 25 thousand years ago, there is now scientific evidence to show that mankind was making fires as many as 2 million years ago in China and jewelry as many as 90K years ago in South America and Africa.
Why would you make jewelry unless you cared about your appearance and what that would mean to those around you? Why would you make fires in caves and cook food? Why would you bury your dead?
Perhaps ancient knowledge of the cycles of the constellations of the stars were passed down through the aeons through myths, stories, prophecies and symbols.

Besides the Yellowstone Supervolcano,(which We should be trying to figure out how to avert erupting, seriously !The last Super Volcano eruption was about 70,000 years ago, and possibly the reason earlier advanced Earth civilizations disappeared) I'm curious if any archeologist/astronomers have researched the possibility that the "end of the world" scenarios that all come up with 2012 as a date happen to be grounded in an ancient astronimical observation concerning a mega-comet that might be returning to Earths' orbital pathway then?...just a thought

I watched the History Channel program about Nostradamus and it really wasn't very convincing.
On the other hand, it did include quite a bit of straightforward 2012 information based on the Mayan cosmology from the likes of John Major Jenkins and Gregg Braden and it was beautifully produced, so on balance I thought it was worth watching, especially if you record it on a DVR and skip through the inane commercials that History Channel attracts (and worse, the over the top promos for its other Armageddon shows).
I'd be really interested to know if anyone who watches it thinks there's anything to the hypothesis that Nostradamus was truly writing about 2012. I've spent a couple of years now intensely researching 2012 for our film "2012: Science or Superstition" (http://2012DVD.com) and I feel that it's a total stretch supported only by some very unconvincing interpretations of Nostradamus' quatrains and drawings from his so-called "Lost Book."
If you're really interested in 2012, it ain't all doom and gloom and the world isn't going to end. Don't trust me but do listen to the experts like Anthony Aveni and Graham Hancock.

This is a great subject to be wrapping our heads around at this point in time. There are many pointers indicating a shift in consciousness around this date. End/Beginning/Big Shift? who knows. This book is a very good read on the subject. There are a bunch of Youtube and radio interviews with Daniel out there as well if reading is not your thing.
Enjoy! - 4 years ago

People fear things like this because they maintain the irrational hope that, somehow, they are going to get out of life alive. Well, we're not.
Whether our lives end in 2012 or 2030, 40, 50 is irrelevant because at some point each of our lives WILL end. I see no value in debating something where the end result is a given no matter what happens.

"No man knows the day."
When I was younger, I always thought the end, or something profound and Earth-changing, was going to come in 2006. I know that we humans are going to be here for a very very long time to come. Very cool picture Jubal. The end of the World fascinate me. I have thought of many different scenarios. I think civilization as we know it may end in a few hundred years very easily. Humans will live on Earth for hundreds of thousands of years to come. There is so little we know about Earth's history and the history of Human life on Earth. - 4 years ago

I'm non-religious in every way, but I don't believe that humans could ever be as smart as the Mayans, Egyptians, and Nostradamus without some extraterrestrial knowledge. How could those people know the galaxy and exact path of the stars inside out without any advanced technology or prior understanding in the society of the subject?

question vierotchka...how were they right in naming the stars correctly, mapping the star paths correctly, including cycles they would not have seen in their civilizations lifetime. I can see how trigonometry and other calculations could help in some of those areas. but i cannot for the life of me imagine how simple things such as knowing that your looking at the same star last night as you are on the next night was possible without some help... and other things like our advanced engineering still can;t explain how the pyramids were able to be built with the technology of that day... there is so many questions of civilizations past that have come and gone which leave me to the only conclusion that our history as we know it has something amiss. Because as we advance we should be able to discern more form our past and we are on a daily basis. but huge questions of our shadowy past stay unanswered year after year. vierotchka you don't think we had ANY help at all back in the day..."back in the day" lol like millions of days

I believe that human beings have been observing the stars for perhaps millions of years and the whole Zodiac astrology thing was ancient knowledge handed down in the form of symbols and myths. That is where they got the knowledge to know about the precession of the earth and the 26000 year cycle.
Aliens? Perhaps there were ancient visitors that affected levels of knowledge, but there is no hard evidence, only circumstantial and speculative evidence at best. Of course I want to believe, there are potentially millions of civilizations just in our own galaxy what with 1 out of 100000 stars likely having an earth like planet in orbit around it.

I do not agree with setting of time and the idea of a galactic catastrophe. But i do believe that humans will destroy their environment by behavior. I believe that the creating power will stop the destruction of planet earth. Seeing the effect of a huge flood on a world wide scale it is easy to see that some intelligence power beyond our understanding is capable to rearrange and readjust this planet including peoples behavior. As always, faith whatever theory their is are part of our life.

I was thinking that maybe the symbols in the Zodiac, being that they depict ages that last approximately 2150 years could have some significance describing the condition of the earth during those ages. What if the fact that we are in the Age of Pisces and heading into the age of Aquarius in this 21st century have to do with melting, more waters on the surface of the earth; fish and water being poured out.
What if the age of Aquarius is knows as the water bearer because it is the period of time in the 26000 year cycle of the earths precession that the ice melts and the ocean levels rise, that is why they are depicted with symbols of water; fish and water being poured out?
After Aquarius comes Sagittarius, with its bow and hunting. What if that signals a time when humanity is thrust into a new ice age and back tot the hunter gatherer stage or even what we lovingly refer to as the Stone Age, yabba dabba doo?

Just in my lifetime, the end of the world has been predicted dozens of times for dozens of dates, based on prophecies of various kinds - yet we are still here. "End Times" according to kooky interpretations of Revelation (which were coded letters sent to a number of Churches in the East, coded so as to fool the Romans who would read them if they caught the couriers) have been predicted to occur in every single generation's lifetimes over the past two thousand years.

We are simply reaching the point at which the celestial circular calendar has reached its reset position. Nostradamus' predictions are so vague and cryptic that they all can be interpreted and applied to dozens and even hundreds and thousands of events.
On the other hand, we have damaged our planet, our water, our food, our atmosphere, our climate, to such an extent that we will undoubtedly become extinct by the end of the century, but certainly not by December 21, 2012. The only thing that could happen to kill us all off at such an early date would be the explosion of the supervolcano in Yellowstone Park. It has been showing an unprecedented and alarming rate of seismic tremors these past few days.
All prophecies are vague and subject to myriad interpretations - they also can become a sort of meme and push people to do everything to make them come true - self-fulfilling prophecies. People are extraordinarily susceptible to suggestion.

One opinion of Yellowstone activity- "The odds of a big caldera forming eruption at Yellowstone are really infinitesimal during our lifetime. While the Discovery channel documentary did a fair job of portraying how an eruption might come down, it also did a better job of whipping up anxiety about a very unlikely event. You would be much more productive hiding in your closet avoiding lightning than worrying about a Yellowstone eruption."
