Israeli forces edged closer to Gaza's major population centers on Tuesday and attacked new targets, including a U.N. school, taking more civilian lives after ignoring mounting international calls for an immediate cease-fire. A Palestinian rocket attack wounded an Israeli infant.
The United Nations said three civilians were killed in the airstrike on its school, where hundreds of people from a Gaza City refugee camp had gone to seek shelter from Israel's blistering 11-day offensive against the Hamas militant group.
The missile landed in a courtyard late Monday, causing minor damage to the building.
"There's nowhere safe in Gaza. Everyone here is terrorized and traumatized," said John Ging, the top U.N. official in Gaza, blaming the international community for allowing the violence to continue.
"I am appealing to political leaders here and in the region and the world to get their act together and stop this," he said, speaking at Gaza's largest hospital. "They are responsible for these deaths."
The Israeli army had no comment on the incident, but in the past has accused militants of using schools, mosques and residential neighborhoods to store weapons or launch attacks.

Interesting notes:
There's still two sides to every story.
Both are wrong, both hide behind lies, both sides were brought up hating each other.
As long as Israel does their thing, Pals will do theirs. visa/versa
I noticed a difference though........
Hamas seems to be 'using' what civilians the strip has left (mostly innocent children) as a 'cover' or shield against their Israeli foes. I think they do this as a form of 'auto-extermination' to 'save ammunition & as long as they do this they gain allies through sympathy for the innocent lives lost. I think we all know that this will lead to further destabilization of the larger area to which hamas hopes will lead to an all-out multi-regional war.
Remember; Hamas vows to never end until Israel's complete destruction.
i say let the children run the area. As long as they've never been taught by their elders about how to hate their neighbors everything would be just Peachy!..............That is until iran moved in.To me, Palestinians are different from Hamas. Besides how many Palestinians would be willing to commit to all out war against i Israel? wouldn't that make them religious fanatics? just like Hamas?
I'm sure they want their own identity & free-will don't they? - 3 years ago

are you kidding....those shitty rockets? hardly...how many people are killed from them....infact. this is what Hamas should do. just assasinate the israeli leaders. i mean it may be hard, but what in life you really want isnt?
stop bombing the people...in fact all the pals should get together, all 1.3 million left of the original 1.5 million...and march towards the tanks and border. the IDF will either open up and hopefully be destroyed by every nation on the planet, or they will just be over run by 1.3 million and the other million or so in the west bank...just claim their shit. and not get up this time.....
non violent but israel will try to spin it somehow to say terrorist are using themselves as human shields in a collective act of Terror against the israeli people...and to defend ourselves we had to kill them...even if they were unarmed....never stopped us before!!!

And 7 million Israelis are guilty?
The situation sucks, but it's more disturbing to me that people around here seem wholly content to condemn everyone in Israel while they're under constant attack from rockets and otherwise, while looking for every feeble opportunity to paint Israel as a bloodthirsty killer.
Israel is partially responsible for the current violence, just because of its existence. But there are innocents on both sides.

Although I am against these attacks and the occupation, I don't believe the title should read "packed with innocent people." I personally don't think there were any militants hiding there, but to say that everyone there was innocent without knowing that for sure is blind support.

I hate to say this because I do not support killing anyone. But the original article is misleading with the title. If you read further, they bombed a courtyard of the school and only 3 civilians were killed. Palestians injured a small infant with a rocket. It goes on to say "minor damage to school" and this was all said by UN people. There is blind hatred on both sides and only a miracle will get them to live together in Peace. "Driving Israel into the sea" has been the goal for years. After the Holocaust, they vowed, Never Again! Both sides are wrong. Someone has to step up andd broker peace. I do not believe the Paslestians ever will.

i tell you what...hamas should just go all around the world...and just bomb the shit out of israeli embassies! of course even though it kind of sucked, but why all the BS about daniel pearl? just because he was jewish? he was just a person, it sucked that he was killed as a person, but all the attention because he was jewish? reporting in a fanatical islamic nation that believes that the war there was against the people by jews..and he as a jew went there to report? idiot!
but thats just me! it sucked either way, but no one reports on all the muslims killed in the last 9 days? why? not enough airtime!!!!! on all the channels! if the attention was shown, no one would catch family guy!!
and israel doesnt want to give hamas any credit for killing the 5 today? said it was friendly fire.....the men went into a building, and the IDF bombed the building!! ok does noone see the irony in that? they are so reckless that they bomb their own people? on purpose?!

Give it a name then, I can't force anyone to use different terminology. I've been thinking about the idea of being trapped and how much that must suck. In a sense, both parties are trapped. On a smaller scale, Gazans and West Bankers. On a slightly larger scale, all the Jews in Israel are trapped as well. Both people deserve a homeland, yet both homelands are surrounded by enemies.
Israel is completely surrounded by neighbors who hate them and do not believe they have a right to live there (unless they are a subjugated minority in an Arab country). The only reason they are still alive as a nation is due to their military superiority. So it's no surprise that Israel always falls back on it's military when it feels threatened- it's actually built into the psyche of the collective Israeli culture; the same way that victimhood and rebellion, followed by martyrdom and jihad have been built into the collective psyche of Palestinian culture. Peace really seems hopeless.
I wonder how Gandhi would fair.

I cant agree anymore with Ayahuasca2012 :
Mass Murder. Either way its the same thing. But please don't try and call this a war... its far from it. These people are caged up and being bombed with no way to escape. That sounds more like a concentration camp than it does a city... I really don't mean to slight her by "calling her out as Jewish" but come on now... Just because someone doesn't support Israel in the murders of innocents doesn't make us antisemitic. That's just ridiculous. I'm just saying that perhaps people of Jewish heritage should be a bit more humble about this. I mean, having experienced the loss of a majority of their people not so long ago wouldn't you feel a bit of remorse or hesitation about the mass murder of another people? Either way... I'm not going to stop calling it "Genocide" because that's what it is. Or do you prefer "Ethnic Cleansing"? - 3 years ago

Well i think most of us are missing the point. It's not who did what to who or who bombed who first. There is a middle ground. Peace. All i read is back and forth banter when both sides are guilty as charged. Being confined to a worldview that fights for peace with violence we forget the are other ways of fighting. And to me choosing sides between two parties that are soaked in the blood of the innocent is counter-intuitive. There are those fighting for humanity. Israelis and Palestinians seeing the bigger picture, and knowing the blame game gets you no where. I think as Americans we can learn a lesson from people like that.

I believe the history of this matter is pretty clear. The Israelis re-emigrated to Palestine (Zionism) because they wanted to escape the brutality they suffered throughout Europe and Asia (pogroms, holocaust). They never wanted anything but a safe place to live and call home. Every human being deserves that much from life. Jews did not re-emigrate to Palestine and declare war on anyone. They simply bought land and hired fellow Jews to work the land. From the very beginning, the Arabs living in Palestine didn't like the Jews being there at all and became violent at certain points (1921, 1929, 1936).
Since the 1st mandate by the UN in 1947, Israel has accepted every 2 state solution offered over the last 60 years. The Palestinians have refused every 2 state solution offered over the past 60 years.
Instead, they have chosen terrorists as their leaders (PLO, Hamas) and terrorism as their strategy. They do NOT want to share the land, period. They want it ALL. I believe this stubbornness is the result of embracing radical Islam and jihad as the main focal point of their culture.
They celebrate the murder of "infidels" across the globe (including the USA on 9/11) and celebrate turning their own children into bombs just to take a few "infidels" with them. It is a radicalized culture, one which does not seek peace with the "infidels". That is the ultimate reason this has not been resolved and will not be resolved by this military operation.
If the Palestinian people were to fully reject terror and jihad they would find a VERY willing partner for peace in Israel. That is my belief, based entirely on history.
Unfortunately, it's not going to happen.

I fear the conversation is no longer productive - everyone seems over run with passion
neither side can be defended.
If Hamas had its way it would kill every Jewish man, woman, and child in Israel. They simply lack the means.
Hamas uses civilians, women and children, as shields. This is simply monstrous and cowardly.
Yet I will not defend the actions of Israel.

JanforGore, that sounds pretty hateful and assumes a great deal about people you only know a paragraph about. If you cannot accept the sharing of ideas, then how do you expect people to be able to come together and understand one another. Maybe this is more "BLAH BLAH BLAH," but I hope you take it for the criticism it is. I'm not being hateful towards you, I'm stating observations about the comments you have made without making any further claims about yourself as a person. I am sharing the view that your views are your own, and that you should keep that in perspective. Again, like I said before, I don't endorse the violence that Isreal is committing, but I'm not willing to condemn them for their actions as long as there is continued violence towards them. As I said, neither side is innocent. I'm not firing any guns at anybody. In fact, I've never shot a gun at any living thing in my life and yet I'm a hateful violent person in your eyes for saying that the condemnation of one side without the condemnation of the other is an extremely partial and biased stance to take.

I don't know what to say anymore. I'm out of ideas. My dad says we have to kill them all, because you can't allow people who cannot be reasoned with to live. As much as I hate this reasoning, sometimes it sounds like the only answer left. But then I think, no. Violence breeds violence. It always has, it always will. Peace moves the mountain, war shatters the mountain into shrapnel.

This is from the Charter of Hamas, its Charter:
“Israel will exist and will continue to exist until Islam will obliterate it, just as it obliterated others before it.”
“The Islamic Resistance Movement believes that the land of Palestine is an Islamic Waqf consecrated for future Moslem generations until Judgement Day. It, or any part of it, should not be squandered: it, or any part of it, should not be given up. ”“There is no solution for the Palestinian question except through Jihad. "Completely remove the threat." Nothing will now completely remove this threat. You have 70,000 young men in Iran alone just waiting to take the place of any terrorist killed, and more willing to avenge the deaths of innocents and children. You have THOUSANDS of those now who will be part of a new generation of terror and hate because some people cannot be the bigger people and say ENOUGH IS ENOUGH, you will not get what you want.
How many more have to die? How many more OF OUR CHILDREN will have to be put in harms way to defend this BS? You know what I told my senator? I told him to start being a UNITED STATES senator for the American people instead of an Israeli senator or a senator for any country over his own. I want a Congress and president that are loyal to the UNITED STATES and its people FIRST. But this is what we get for it being the way it really is. And we have now made sure by supporting this that we have a whole new generation of hate to keep this going. "Completely remove this threat." Not bloody likely now. Of course, I happen to think that water, food, and freedom would go a lot further in ending this than bombs. However, it doesn't seem as though even some here want that to happen. It is very sad to see the current state of humanity where people applaud and justify the death of any child.
Maybe if some listen to the words of this song they will understand just how FUTILE this violence really is.

So are you saying that those firing the rockets into Israel were justified for doing so? Should Israel just dissolve its state and submit to Islamic law? How much have you studied the history of Israel and its foundation in 1948 or the Palestinian people who were there before? Why are you pointing your finger so hatefully at the Israelis and telling them to stop while the rockets of Hamas are metaphorically fired from behind the lines of people like you? If you want to tell your senator to act like a United States senator, then he should be supporting isolation. We have no business asserting our judgement upon the world. Somebody smart said at the beginning of this country, "Do business with all, make treaties with none." Your views are simply that, YOUR views, and how can you have such conviction for a situation you yourself have no part of and little understanding of? I'm not supporting Israel's actions as much as defending them. I think those who point their finger in one direction are misguided, and misguiding. There are no innocent people in this fight (except the children, elderly, and handicapped who do not have the means of leaving for themselves). If the people of the Gaza Strip did not support Hamas they should have spoken out against the rocket fire. I didn't hear much of that talk, only yelling about Israel's reaction to it.

Why are civilians still in Gaza? I understand that Gaza is their home but if I were in that situation I would pack up my children and get the hell out of there. Are they being blocked from leaving?
Does anyone even know?????
Edit:
After talking to Hubby I this is the picture I have been able to develop on the current situation: Hamas is using the civilians as pawns. It would be like a "terrorist" group coming to my subdivision and setting up camp. Do these people support Hamas? Is Hamas really a threat? Too many questions without enough answers. - 3 years ago

I'm sorry, if rockets hadn't of been fired from Gaza there would be no excuse for Isreal's response. However, I do believe that taking this response is ultimately the best choice. Completely remove the threat and the issue will be resolved. For to many years there have been small assaults that do little damage to the interests involved and more damage to the innocent. A complete resolution is the best answer and unfortunately if Hamas wants to use violence to demonstrate their frustration, they should expect a violent response.
It is really counter-intuitive to make the argument that Isreal is wrong for trying to stop Hamas. Hamas fighters use children for body armor. They do not recognize a difference between combatant and innocent amongst the infadels, and they are doing a great job of convincing people that those who attack them are in the wrong while they continue to fire rockets indiscriminantly into Isreal.

Unconventional Weapons against The People of Gaza / Interview of Dr. Mads Gilbert
http://www.globalresearch.ca/index.php?context=va&aid=11636This report confirms that these attacks are quite deliberately directed against civilians, using new unconventional weapons.
This is a carefully planned humanitarian catastrophe. How can anybody in their right mind support the actions of the Israeli government.
Read this interview with a distinguished and courageous Norwegian doctor.
Here are some of the highlights.
"The Israelis are using a new type of very high explosive weapons which are called Dense Inert Metal Explosive (DIME) and are made out of a tungsten alloy. These weapons have an enormous power to explode."
"these weapons will have a cancer effect on those who survive. They will develop cancer we suspect."
"All that is happening in Gaza here now is against international law, it is against humanity"
"Almost all of the patients we have received have these sever amputations. They seem to have been affected by this kind of weapon. Of course, we have many fragment injuries and burns but those who have got their limbs cut off, constitutes quite a large proportion.
You know we have a lot to do. Palestinian doctors, nurses and paramedics do an incredibly heroic job to save their people. Doctor Eric and I are just a small drip in the ocean, but we learn from them."
And then decide where do you stand.
We stand with the people of Palestine whose lives are being destroyed.
We stand in solidarity with their struggle.
We stand for humanity against the US-Israeli war criminals.

one murder is enough..there have been close to thousands and still counting. Israels excuse is not going to wash, not at all, dataminded. It targeted not one, but two schools. Israel is lying just by the mere fact that it will not allow journalists to witness anything there and if a Gazan witnesses something it is immediately shot down by the Israeli spin machine, which we know lies thru their teeth based on reports from cnn and many other sources you have read us post.

Dear Datamined, I thought you had all the making of a superb Jewish princess in the Zappa tradition but now that some here at Current question if you are a HE or a SHE I’ll admit to being crushed & flabbergasted by the mere thought of it … oh, the humanity ;)
And just in case you lack a sense of tumor... well there's nothing I can do about it but to point out that some of the best Jewish humor is self-deprecating ;)
From Zappa’s Sheik Yerbouti album, the song was a humorous look at Jewish stereotyping, which attracted attention from the Anti-Defamation League, to which Zappa denied an apology, arguing: “Well, I didn’t make up the idea of a Jewish Princess. They exist, so I wrote a song about them”.
Jewish Princess n. A woman of Jewish faith and/or descent who displays at least two of the following criteria:
a) viciousness
b) greed
c) arrogance
d) vanity
e) social-dominance
f) inability to do minor tasks (i.e. cooking, cleaning, laundry)
g) fragility
h) dishonestyDid you hear about Herschel? The poor heeb has downed his fifth bottle of Manischewitz because of that wershtuptd Jewish Princess he just married. Oy gevald!
I want a nasty little jewish princess
With long phony nails and a hairdo that rinses
A horny little jewish princess
With a garlic aroma that could level tacoma
Lonely inside
Well, she can swallow my prideI want a hairy little jewish princess
With a brand new nose, who knows where it goes
I want a steamy little jewish princess
With over-worked gums, who squeaks when she cums
I dont want no troll
I just want a yemenite holeI want a darling little jewish princess
Who dont shit about cooking and is arrogant looking
A vicious little jewish princess
To specifically happen with a pee-pee thats snappin
All up inside
I just want a princess to ride
Awright, back to the top...everybody twistI want a funky little jewish princess
A grinder; a bumper, with a pre-moistened dumper
A brazen little jewish princess
With titanic tits, and sand-blasted zits
She can even be poor
So long as she does it with four on the floor
(vapor-lock)I want a dainty little jewish princess
With a couple of sisters who can raise a few blisters
A fragile little jewish princess
With roumanian thighs, who weasels n lies
For two or three nights
Wont someone send me a princess who bites
Wont someone send me a princess who bites
Wont someone send me a princess who bites
Wont someone send me a princess who bitesNOTE : If you’re Catholic & wish to have an equal opportunity chance to be entertained or shocked listen to the song “Catholic Girls”

Since it IS a childrens school, and since it IS a shelter for innocent people NOT fighting, why would Israel bomb it? Because Israel can give a rats ass about children and innocent people and thinks it can get away with it since it IS censoring the news - 3 years ago

Weren't fliers dropped to warn the people of an incomming attack? Or was that a media cover-up, too?
Things aren't making sense to me. Either Israel is truly evil or someone or something is not letting those Palestinian civilians leave.
It sickens me either way. Let's just pray for peace. That is all we can do.

Tell me please. Palestine's vote Hamas into leadership, who then systematically start storing rockets and other weapons in hospital, schools, nursery's, and mosques within the Palestine civilian community. How could they not know what the consequences would be when Hamas commenced firing rockets at Israel from their own neighborhoods? Furthermore, when Israel responds in kind (which you know they surely would), why have the children and innocent non combatants not been moved from harms way? Surely they know that firing rockets into Israel continually will bring repercussions. It appears to me that Hamas is indeed hiding behind children and civilians for protection and to solicit world opinion to their side under the guise of innocence. Am I missing something here?

You are obviously Jewish and think you are entitled to something because of it eh Datamined?
Perhaps instead of spewing your own pro-genocide propaganda you should sit back and look at the situation.
I understand you would want to support your heritage, but come on now... This is a Genocide... this is what happened to the Jewish people not so long ago. Did your people forget? Or do you just feel like, hey, it's my turn to mass murder now! Wheee!
I suppose I will do no good trying to show you light though. You have made up your mind and will blindly support the murderers until everyone in Gaza is dead. I hope you can live with yourself...

Please stop throwing the word "genocide" around. I am not suggesting war is acceptable, but there are differences between military operations, wars, and "genocide". There a 1.5 million Palestinians in the Gaza Strip. So far, without even trying to distinguish between Hamas targets and civilians, the number of casualties is less than 1,000.
I'm not saying you need to be cool with that- I'm just saying it doesn't qualify as "genocide" and reduces the suffering of those suffering from true "genocide" (Africa) by equalizing it with what is actually best classified at this point as a military incursion or even war, if you want to be loose with terms. But "genocide"? Let's keep the dialogue real, and try to keep this in perspective- tragic as it might be.
Further, I have not read every comment by datamined, but her opinions are not neccesarily the result of her heritage and to call her out on being Jewish as if only a Jew could understand the Israeli perspective is a bit narrow-minded. She/He may very well be Jewish, my point is that it's irrelevant unless they make it so. Thank you for listening.

This is a Genocide... there is no war being fought... the casualties are mainly civilian... yep... that pretty much qualifies.
Ok... so you don't like the word Genocide... well how about Mass Murder.
P.S. I understand what is and has been happening in Africa is a full on Genocide. But this has the makings of one and from everything Israel has said they won't stop until it's done.

They may have reasoning but it is not a justification.
At least not a sober one.
If you are pissed off that some one pisses on your lawn, you don't go burn their house down.
No one I have spoken with has said that Israel doesn't have the right to protect themselves or retaliate an attack but only a complete fool would categorize their current behavior that way.
You don't bomb entire apartment buildings filled with civilians in order to get one person and then still get to complain about being victimized by terrorists.
I have lost ALL my patience with Israel's behavior and I feel a deep shame for the Israeli people. I cannot support the plight of Israel or it's people until they stop acting like monsters.
I understand why Israel is doing what they are doing but it is wrong. They have shown themselves as an irrational, dangerous and wantonly violent regime.

Only a fool thinks that the murders of children are justified because "supposedly" Hamas was using the school as a base to fire their rockets.
You do realize that Gaza is basically a prison camp right? It's now essentially been turned into a concentration camp where everyone inside is doomed to a horrible death...
There is no justification for the murder of so many innocents... Regardless of whether Hamas is or did fire rockets into Israel the response by Israel is ridiculous.
An analogy I used the other day:
My neighbors dog shits on my lawn so I kill everyone who lives in the neighborhood.
There ya go... that makes about as much sense as what Israel is doing.
But the media will keep portraying them as some saintly victim who is only defending himself against those nasty and evil Hamas attackers. This is Afghanistan and Iraq all over again...
This is sick... this is a Genocide and everyone is sitting around and cheering them on.
