"Give me my kidney back" Dr demands from ex-wife

A US doctor who donated his kidney to his wife, now wants it back because she cheated on him.

The surgeon from Long Island in New York, gave his kidney to his wife after two previous transplants failed.

He told New York Daily News there is “no value you can put on an organ when it saves someone’s life. There is no greater feeling on this planet”.

He says he is only suing his wife in an effort to get to her act reasonably in the divorce case, claiming she is restricting access to their children, aged 8, 11 and 14.

A bit extreme no? Or does he just want his pound of flesh!

    • I've heard of tearing someone's heart out but...

The article is worth a read though, the fact she is being difficult in terms of custody has perhaps left him needing to demonstrate what type of guy he is - the type who would give one of his organs for the love of a woman.

Could this be a future question in MTV style marry me a celebrity television shows?

      Would you donate me kidney?

Would you ask for it back if I cheated on you with Rob Lowe?

    • She's had it for 7 years now so the kidney's going to have deteriorated somewhat. If she was to give it back, she should probably throw in a couple of fingers or a slice of liver to even things up a little.

      Just sayin'.

    • Well that's a risk you have to take if you donate your kidney. They might cheat on you. Them and their brand new kidney.

    • This bloke was featured on the BBC News this (Friday) morning, complaining about the fact his divorce was taking so long to finalise ... Could it be because he's being an unreasonable (publicity seeking?), resentful moron?

Although! I've just read the article properly (always wise) and see she's not being very fair in the custody battle. Why can't these two admit their pissed off and hurt, come to an agreement, and go their separate ways?

    • Like the line from the BBC feature on this

"He said he had not only given his heart to his wife, Dawnell, but donated his kidney to save her life."

    • Ugg. Clearly, touching naughty bits with another person is an insult of sufficient scale to undo all that goodwill that drove you to give them an organ /sarcasm/. When will people grow up? Did you raise a child you didn't want, or catch a disease? No? Then relax, suck it up, and get on with your life.

    • Whatever. His wife is a filthy trick. Infidelity is downplayed way too often these days. It should be fairly obvious that he does not actually want the kidney back; he's trying to persuade her to act differently.

    • Divorce always make people do strange things but this takes the cake since the kidney is basically a gift which in his words was to prolong the marriage. I understand her keeping quite on the story but it would have been nice to have heard her side of the story just to give it a little more balance.

    • Obviously being a doctor he doesn't expect his kidney back, nor would he actually take it back. He's just doing this to prove a point. If his claims that she's restricting access to his children, when she is the one who cheated, than he seems far from evil. He took it to far with a lawsuit though.

    • This is exactly why donars for transplants are kept confidential from the receiver, right? Of course this was not possible in this couples case. But what decent human being would ask someone for the kidney back knowing it would kill them?

    • Sounds like the man is using any cheap emotional trick to paint his wife as 'the bad' one.

If he stoops to this kind of trick, maybe it's no wonder she couldn't stand being with him.
