Saudis give aid to Palestinians

Image

"A Saudi aid campaign for Palestinians wounded in Israel's assault on Gaza has gathered over 100 million riyals ($26.7 million) as the government tries to respond to rising popular anger over the offensive.

Saudi state media has carried prominent coverage of three dozen wounded Palestinians brought to the country for treatment in Saudi hospitals and reported a 30 million riyal donation to the state-run aid campaign by King Abdullah.

But this "protest by charity", as al-Riyadh daily called it, is the only protest to be found in the conservative kingdom, a lynchpin of U.S. policy in the Middle East that has tried to contain the threat of demonstrations."

    • If the Saudi's had any sense of justice they should be paying damages to ALL of the victims of 9/11 since most of the perpetrators were Saudis.
But of course that will not serve the purpose of inciting World opinion against Israel.

    • Careful now ,watch what is going on. The Taliban have moved most of their troops to the pashtun tribal areas of Afghanistan/Pakistan border. The connection to the Saudi money going to the Palistinians, could be a sign that finally the Saudis, are going to committ to the full JIHAD.Are WE ALL ready to fight to the death for GOD/ALLAH? No why dont we just kill each other for a piece of land. My God doesnt want me to kill anyone for any reason. If it matters to anyone I think the best thing to do would be to get right with God.

I hope Iran does not rise to American bait. Through using Israel they are trying to suck Iran in so Israel can have an excuse to make powder of their country on behalf of America.

Egypt is stuck....Egypt is dirt poor and they depend on tourism and American dollars. If they assist the Israelis they will lose both.

Think of it as a game of chess.

why make excuses for the failure of arabs to help palestinians? the fact that the arabs manipulate and use the palestinians as a proxy against Israel is a large part of the puzzle. To deny this is to fail to understand the dynamics at play.

humanitarian aide is well outside of the "chess" game modern war has become. egypt is poor in a global sense but can certainly come up with food and water. iran needs no baiting. wether we are active or not iran is still more concerened (as they have publicly shouted) in death to isreal for the palastinians but spend money on nuclear weapons instead of food or water for the people they claim to advocate for.

    • why now is aid being offered? why for the last 3 yrs? nobody cared. if isreal had not launched an offensive would we even be aware as a global community how foriegn aid doesnt make it to those who need it. good for the saudis bettter late than never. maybe now we can hold these muslim countries to what they say about arab solidarity. why if hezbollah and iran are so outraged why have they not lifted finger one for these people but have no problem supplying them with guns and rockets. thier intentions are clear 1st destroy isreal not 1st advocate for the arab people.

    • Gee, I don't know. I can easily imagine Israel sparking some scandal of Saudi Arabia, probably including something about oil, and soon enough the whole Middle East will get in on the act. Shouldn't "aid" be stopped and solutions be sent in. Isn't it kind of obvious that helping others is fuel for conflict? Now that the soldiers can get better they'll be sent out to fight again.

    • Global protests condemn Gaza attack:

More than 50,000 Egyptian have protested in the city of Alexandria against Israel's assault on Gaza, one of many held across the world as the conflict enters its 14th consecutive day.

    • saudi government doesn't give two s**ts about the atrocities being committed in Gaza. They are silent puppets just like the Egyptian and Jordanian governments. The people in the MIddle east are suffering because of these idiots. The Saudi governments – kingdom – is one of the cruelest governments in the history of the Middle East and although they try to put out a friendly front, they are as responsible for what is going on in Gaza as the Israeli government.

    • The Wrong Side of History

Gaza Slaughter Exposes Truth About Zionism

      By Mark H. Gaffney

Uncritical US support for Israeli-style Apartheid has thus placed the United States on the wrong side of history, an ugly reality that ought to be a source of concern, indeed, of alarm, for each and every American. At issue is the racist nature of the Zionist enterprise, and it's long past time that we call the thing by its true name.

    • justright:

actually, Palestinians get billions of dollars in international aid, just not from America. The difference is that while Israel uses the money to make itself better, Palestinian leaders steal the money for themselves and rob their people of a hopeful future. Nobody talks about Palestinian "responsibility", however. They like to blame the Israelis for everything. Typical.

    • Saudi Kings are the problem for not educating their people and not making them behave like someone from the 21th Century. Problems will end with the last Homicide Bomber.

    • THATS PROBABLY A GOOD THING SINCE MOST OF THEM ARE NOT THE PROBLEM, JUST A VERY SMALL ELEMENT OF THEIR COUNTRY IS THE PROBLEM.
