Detainee was tortured!

Image

The top Bush administration official in charge of deciding whether to bring Guantanamo Bay detainees to trial has concluded that the U.S. military tortured a Saudi national who allegedly planned to participate in the Sept. 11, 2001, attacks, interrogating him with techniques that included sustained isolation, sleep deprivation, nudity and prolonged exposure to cold, leaving him in a "life-threatening condition."

    • I was just thinking about Lt. William Calley and the 347 elderly, women and children (according to the U.S Army) from My Lai slaughtered the year after I left the tranquil and charming Viet Nam. When in your deepest sit com addled minds did you think we are not barbarians. And to wave flags and cheer for the boys and women we turn into monsters. You disgust me.

    • All this makes me sick. We are supposed to be better than the beheaders. But those who commented before me are obviously the same kind of animal. Our justice system is based on JUSTICE, not revenge. It sucks that people like Liberal Extinction and Chowmein2012 are the terrorists that are running our country. I dont care what these "detainees" have done. According to our laws (and by laws I mean the Constitution) they have the right to a fair trial and not to be subjected to cruel and unusual punishment. Liberal Extinction and Chowmein, you are completely un-American and should be held at Gitmo for your terrorist beliefs.

Last I checked our constitution applied to OUR citizens. There are laws of armed conflict in place for UNIFORMED foreign military members at war with the US but not for these cowards that use their women and children as shields and hide amongst their civilian population. There's a big difference, an honorable enemy deserves to be treated with respect on and off the battlefield, but for these jihadists, all bets are off.

Just to clarify a question I have, if they are not citizens of our country, and therefor are not protected by our constitution then what legal stature applies?

If they fall under the Geneva convention, then I think that we've still screwed the pooch on the rights that these people are supposed to have.

Liberal Extinction you are the same kind of coward. You refuse to see it just like they do. You believe you are right and everyone else is wrong. Sound familiar? Try to open your eyes and see that you are sounding just like them.

You are half right, we are not hijacking planes and crashing them into buildings.

However we have more than laid the foundation for these extremists.

The whole western world has interfered with the hierarchies of the middle east to extremes. We have kept rich suppressive oil sheiks in power for decades while ignoring the plight of the people who we kept them in power over.

More recently during the cold war, we trained many of what has become Al Queda in the tactics that have been used against us for the original purpose of fighting off the Soviet Union. Unfortunately we kinda half assed our aid effort. The people we trained weren't just looking for guerrilla tactics as a form of aid, they were looking for support and help rebuilding after they repelled the Soviet Union forces. Well we didn't really support them, we just gave the middle easterners training and weapons (and some of those weapons were used years later when our black hawk helicopters were attacked), nor did we help rebuild. We pretty much just cut bait and left them to take care of the problem on their own.

Now, before anyone makes the bullshit claim that hindsight is 20/20, keep in mind that this is not the first time that we have observed that lesson about helping rebuild. The second world war was helped along by countries in despair not only from the depression, but in despair because they were demolished by the first world war and never got rebuilt. That's one of the reasons why we helped to rebuild Japan and Germany after the second world war, we learned from our mistakes. And guess what... we haven't been attacked or had any hostile actions taken against us from either of those two nations.

What I'm waiting to see is if we get attacked again, or have a serious attempt to attack us made by people who are primarily from Afghanistan. Seriously, what kind of rebuilding efforts have we made since we stopped cratering Afghanistan with bombs looking for Bin Laden. Hell, we left the country without actually capturing Bin Laden and left it in a state worse off than before, prime for breeding more extremists.

Yea, those poor detainees had to stand around in the cold, go with out sleep, listen to loud music, sit/ stand in stress positions, were made to think they were drowning, had their little peckers laughed at, etc to prevent more people from being burned, dismembered, beheaded, and blown up by suicide bombers while out in public. Sounds to me like the bastards got off easy.

Yeah, and apparently our interrogation techniques worked so well that there was never another U.S. soldier or civilian tortured and killed by Muslim extremist ever again. I love happy endings.

Reality check, you don't sink to someone else's level if they are inhumane barbarians. Fuck the Geneva convention, you don't do it because first off it doesn't work and second you just spread hatred that spawns more of the people who are torturing and killing our own people. Besides, the extremists who do these things do them to... guess what, get us pissing down our legs with fear. When we abandon certain moral standards of ours it is because we are pissing down our legs with fear and we want to feel safe again.

YOu mean pissing down your legs like liberals afraid that big brother wants listen in on their phone conversations as part of some vast right wing conspiracy? That kind of pissing down your legs? Last I checked all the boo-hooing and pissing and moaning was coming from the far left in this country, the conservatives and patriots are too busy defending you ungrateful pukes.

    • chowmein2012:

Oh yes, defending us. Taking away my civil liberties is not defending me. You think that I shouldn't complain if my phone is tapped without a warrant? Hmmm... such treatment sounds familiar, what other governing forces have invaded their citizens privacy without warrants or probable cause, oh yeah, the Nazis. Hitler opened people mail without any warrant or cause other than paranoia. What a wonderful standard for our country to be living up to. Of course, Hitler didn't have the terrorist threat to keep people from suspecting him of an abusive power. No sir, he had an economic depression, a country that was morally destroyed, and a ethnic group that generally had wealth as his distractions. Wow, he actually had a lot more distractions then we did I guess, so why in the hell do some people just shrug their shoulders.

And defending? Golly gee, where was that defending from those hard core conservatives and patriots when those jets crashed into our towers. Oh sure, you can say that we couldn't have foreseen such action, and I can call bullshit.

The trade towers were built with the idea in mind that an aircraft (although not one of such immense size) could crash into the buildings. Lest I'm mistaken, Tom Clancy even wrote a story in which a jet full of fuel is used as a missile. Is there some reason why an author of fucking fiction can come up with such a scenario, yet when terrorists who we knew existed and we knew hated us flew into our buildings our government officials say something along the lines of, "we had no idea something like this could happen."?

Oh, and for all of the terrorist plots that have been thwarted by our patriots and conservatives whom are still in office for the next 6 days, how many of them were actually thwarted by our own government? The last attempt that I heard about terrorists trying to attack us was a few extremists trying to sneak liquid explosives onto a plane that was departing England. Did we stop them, no. Did we give any significant aid in stopping them, no. It was all the freakin' British airways and British government. Our involvement was more or less non existent.

By the by, if the conservatives and patriots are the brave ones not the ones pissing down their legs, and its just been the liberals who have been excreting urine, then why have conservatives and patriots been the ones to implement torture when the best intelligence about torture from both sides of the fence say that... TORTURE DOES NOT WORK! People who are put under any form of torture will say anything to stop it, be it real or complete malarkey. If anything, the act of torture from a nation that is a super power is an act of fear and desperation.

    • Where's the part about him being dismembered, burned to death, beheaded, etc? Oh wait, nevermind, that's the muslims doing that shit to UNIFORMED soldiers & civilians. These people (animals) do not abide by the geneva conventions and laws of armed conflict so they should NOT be privvy to the protections offered by them.

I don't see anywhere that I've advocated giving them the same treatment, I do however have no problem whatsover with an interrogator strapping them down to board, shoving rag in their mouth, throwing water in their face, and letting them THINK that they are drowning. It's a FAR CRY from the attrocities their enemies have suffered (even civilians).
