Syrian president: The Arab initiative for peace with Israel is now "dead".

Qatar and Mauritania have suspended economic and political ties with Israel in protest against the war in Gaza.

The move announced on Friday followed calls by Bashar al-Assad, the Syrian president, and Khaled Meshaal, the exiled leader of Hamas, for all Arab nations to cut ties with Israel.

Addressing leaders at an emergency Arab summit in Doha, the Qatari capital, al-Assad declared that the Arab initiative for peace with Israel was now "dead". He said Arab countries should cut "all direct and indirect" ties with Israel in protest against its offensive in Gaza.

Egypt and Jordan are the only Arab countries who have signed peace treaties with Israel and have Israeli embassies.

Speaking from Ankara, Recep Tayyip Erdogan, the Turkish prime minister, said Israel should be barred from the United Nations while it continues to ignore UN demands to end the fighting in Gaza.

Speaking from Ankara, Recep Tayyip Erdogan, the Turkish prime minister, said Israel should be barred from the United Nations while it continues to ignore UN demands to end the fighting in Gaza. "How is such a country, which totally ignores and does not implement resolutions of the UN Security Council, allowed to enter through the gates of the UN?" he said.

    • 'Peace to Muslims' means. Like they have a real opportunity for equal time in conversation and are not vilified constantly by ignoramuses who think the USA's and Israel's shit doesn't stink.
Israeli soldiers are refusing to participate in this. Do you think that is an uninformed act ?
Does knocking one religion differ in prejudice than knocking another ?

    • Used to the "dual pressure", as he sees it, of Israeli occupation and the oscillating hostility of neighbouring Arab dictatorships, he says he lives "on my memories". His sense of statelessness deepened after the Oslo accords of 1993 created the Palestinian Authority, which he scorns. A close friend of the poet Mahmoud Darwish, who died in August, Barghouti had mixed feelings at his funeral in Ramallah. "People of all ages came carrying flowers, with lines of poetry on T-shirts, in tears and sadness: this was fascinating." Yet he resents what he sees as the Palestinian Authority's attempt to "monopolise Mahmoud. They didn't invite any writers to the ceremony. The guards pushed away everybody who tried to come to the grave".

Have you forgot 9-11, and all the conflicts were started by muslim extremist. Maybe you like to decorate you walls with photos of the dead women, child and my 343 firefighters who were slaughtered by these muslims, who will conitue to hide behind women and children because they are evil incarnate. If you sympathetic with them please move there.

    • Yes highroller that is what a war looks like. Even if it is the big bad Jews picking on the poor Palestinians. Even if it means babies blown to bits. Which is exactly what Hamas and their puppet masters in Syria and Iran want. As long as people cant look past the rubble and demagoguery to the men behind the curtain you will continue to see pictures like this. Pay no attention to the man behind the curtain. All hail the great and powerful Hamas.

      Actually you had it right,

Look behind the curtain! That is exactly the magic trick that they have been playing all these years.

Where does a small strip of land not more than twenty miles across get an endless supply of rockets, but don't have enough food or medical supplies to go around?

      That is the One-hundred-thousand-dollar question?

    • What peace initiative? No Arab state has ever bargained in good faith. Syria is a police state which has dreams of dominating the Arab world along with Iran. They continue to mouth words of sorrow over Israeli atrocities while pouring money and weapons into the hands of the terrorist's who provoke attacks upon its own people. Their governments better pray that they are long dead before the oil runs out and the rest of the world leaves them to rot in the grave.

    • The Syrians are totally cynical and Machiavellian. If they think at any time that they can get the deal that they want from the Israelis, they will make it.

      Puh-lease,

This didn't start a few weeks ago.

Were you born before 80? If not then you haven't been following this story long enough from limited resources to know, ( and I mean that, know) what is really going on. It's very, very hard to have an intelligent discussion on this topic anymore because so few have the full contextual history to understand beyond the propaganda of the various sides what is really going on behind the headlines.

There are more than two sides to this story, there are at least twelve sides that I can count on my fingers and toes. That's not even thinking about how the individual European nations think about it, outside of Britain of course. If you don't know how Britain fits in the original twelve don't bother asking me, you need to study instead of posting in this forum.

    • Dead................I should hope so. Unfortunately I was involved in the Peace the Egypt made with Israel in 1979, I now realise they should break it, but alas they depend on tourism and they got American Aid (from Jimmy Carter) to make that peace.
That peace split the Arabs, but they will revolt yet in Saudi Arabia and Egypt if America/Israel attacks Iran.............and then we better have lots of LNG (Liquidified Natural Gas) because we'll lose the OIL and the state of Israel. (The latter would be great).

"American Aid (from Jimmy Carter) to make that peace. "

Jimmy Carter my ass. They get billions from America every year since Carter.

Revolt? Iran? Iran nuclear weapons? If Israel doesn't take them out then you think be holding? You wanna talk trash? America has enough nuclear weapons to destroy the entire world, biatch. You think we holding back because we love Iran? Before we let them take down the world economy over oil we will turn that country into glass. Then scoot in and drill and what are you gonna say about it. Ain't no more than fifty years worth of oil left anyway.

It's in Rap, it must be true. Bush points a forty-five at a kitten, it must be true. Bush in a blue thong, it must be true.

Show me where to sign up, I need a new drug.

Two thousand years ago doesn't cut it give anyone rights to a piece of land. Less than 100 years does, especially when murder, terror, stealing and dicite is involved.

      Where do you live?

Can you with honest certainty gaurantee that all of those attacks were non-provoked. That all of those deaths were not the result of Hamas or Hezbollah using civilians as shields?

If you say yes, you're a liar. If you say no? Then you aren't any more guilty than the rest of us.

It is a fact that Hamas and Hezbollah have used innocent civilians as propaganda and shields.

It is a fact that Israeli soldiers have killed innocents because of that fact.

If it wasn't for the former, the latter would not exist. I know how heartless that sounds and for any one, single, one, of my children I would kill everyone in both countries. Show me which button to push.

That's why we can't believe the emotions of either side. I can show you a video the same as that from the Hamas, Hezbollah strikes.

First of all youve got to be out of your mind to think I would tell you where I live.

Second, show proof of your accusations.

I'm sick of rants by the Israeli propaganda machine.

Syria is the puppet master of Lebanon. The Golan Heights was taken because that is were Syria was firing missiles into Israel prior to 1967. They were going to attack Israel, but instead got their asses handed to them. Now Israel won't give the high ground back because, "surprise" you can attack Israel from there.
