Beautiful letter. Loving father. I have hope for our country, despite the negative sentiments of skeptics. Yes, we can!

Obviously, he's not going to be perfect, but if he can run the country by doing what he thinks is right, then I'm behind him.

It is all well and good to be singing the praises of an individual purely if the good work or deeds they carry out are attributed directly to them... that would be perfect if public perception was not what makes the world go around... facts dont matter in a world were the majority maybe of a differing opinion... Therefore back to my point (re-phrased) i wonder whether "public perception" would allow Obama to take credit for his good work as an individual or it would be used by certain types as good work purely because he is a 'non-white' person... only time would tell...

You have to be dismayed at the two responses above. Of course Obama is an ordinary man - there is no special DNA gene that makes any man or woman particularly predisposed to be President of the most powerful nation on the planet. And the colour of his skin is only of importance to those who choose to make it an issue when of course there is no issue to be made.
At this moment in time (before he is even inaugurated) he embodies a precious quality that is so very rare in this cynical world. He cares and that gives everyone on the planet hope. Long may it last.

I really luv to see how everybody accepts it if Obama turns out to be possibly the 'best' president the US has EVER seen, maybe the most progressive, the best for the people, the most just, etc...
Then what will the world say? Is it because he is the best person, or is it because he aint white?>????

Well I don't expect him to be the Messiah, but I find your attitude particularly cynical. He's definitely a lot wiser than Bush could ever hope to be. If nothing else he's an improvement, and in my opinion he will be a large improvement.

yes but he is controlled by the powers that be......like any other president would have been. for the most part he can still only do what he is allowed to do.
