Al-Jazeera launches channel for pre-schoolers

The channel Baraem, which means buds in Arabic, started broadcasting on Friday, said Al-Jazeera's Mahmud Bouneb.
It offers its target audience -- aged between three and six -- educational and cultural programmes, unlike Al-Jazeera Children launched three and a half years ago for children up to 13 years old.
"Baraem, unique among some 550 channels in the Arab world, addresses pre-school-aged children, their parents and their teachers, with the ambition of contributing to the formation of the identity of the Arab child," Bouneb told AFP.
Baraem produces 15 percent of its broadcast material, while the remaining 85 percent is aquired, said Bouneb, who heads Al-Jazeera Children.
"The aim is to gradually increase our production to affirm the Arab identity of the channel, as with Al-Jazeera Children, which at its launch produced only 30 percent of the programmes, but now produces 60 percent," Bouneb said.
"Our channel produces, or co-produces in Malaysia, Britain, France, Canada and Arab countries, including Qatar," he said, adding Baraem's launch would free up space on Al-Jazeera Children for children aged seven to 15.
Baraem is owned by the Qatar Foundation for Education, Science and Community Development, a public body created and headed by the wife of Qatar's Emir, Sheikha Mozah Bent Nasser al-Masnad.

kuffar:
“I say, let the truth ring forth from the high mountain tops, let it echo through the valleys of God's green earth: When people criticize Zionism, they mean Jews--this is God's own truth.” The letter also was filled with grammatical errors that any halfway literate reader of King’s work should have known disqualified him from being its author, to wit: “Anti-Zionist is inherently anti Semitic, and ever will be so.” The treatise, it is claimed, was published on page 76 of the August, 1967 edition of Saturday Review, and supposedly can also be read in the collection of King’s work entitled, This I Believe: Selections from the Writings of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. That the claimants never mention the publisher of this collection should have been a clear tip-off that it might not be genuine, and indeed it isn’t. The book doesn’t exist. As for Saturday Review, there were four issues in August of 1967. Two of the four editions contained a page 76. One of the pages 76 contains classified ads and the other contained a review of the Beatles’ Sgt. Pepper’s album. No King letter anywhere.
Yet its lack of authenticity hasn’t prevented it from having a long shelf-life. Not only does it pop up in the Schneier book, but sections of it were read by the Anti-Defamation League’s Michael Salberg in testimony before a House Subcommittee in July of 2001, and all manner of pro-Israel groups (from traditional Zionists to right-wing Likudites, to Christians who support ingathering Jews to Israel so as to prompt Jesus’ return), have used the piece on their websites.

Maybe you can give a specific link. I went and they were just giving an Arab view of the Gaza situation.
Should you see anything specifically on this or the stuff for the kids under 15.. please do post.We should not just make all remarks without knowing. We do know what Hamas does with their kids. We pray that's not what the rest of the middle east is doing.

I did get this agenda for Al Jazeera, for those of you who feel it's "fair and balanced"...
The ever-contentious Middle East will be its speciality. And the news, including coverage of Israel, will be served up from an Arab perspective, Al-Jazeera executives say.
With a touch of the evangelist, perhaps, the station's executives say their mission is nothing less than reversing the dominant flow of global information, which now originates on TV channels in the West.
"We're the first news channel based in the Mideast to bring news back to the West," said Nigel Parsons, managing director of Al-Jazeera International. "We want to set a different news agenda."
The station's research shows some of the world's one billion English speakers,
What do you expect?
I think freedom in news is still a few years away.
And keep in mind that the middle east station and the International station / American station they are all Independent. They may share minimal information but they don't run the same stories or content.

(This very sweet video is for the WESTERN Muslim kids in the UK. Notice that the WESTERN and EASTERN Islamic traditions are quite different.)
In my research I did find that the Middle Eastern channel of Al Jazeera does cover different stories and material than the International & American Al Jazeera. One is caters directly to all Arabs and the other to a mix and does have an agenda. But be clear, they are not the same.
I wanted to find some Video so that we could make some educated comments on what they were actually doing but on you-tube, where they publish so much, there was nothing fresh to be found, AT ALL. The only fact we know is that it is to help the Arab children grow up with an Arab identity and to reject Western ideas.
But this station is the closest to free news that they have. So mixed blessings I guess.
Still, I would very much like to see the Youth Programs myself. If they are like this one, I am not that worried. Unless they get warped later. - 3 years ago

You know how Time-Warner is behind a bunch of channels? Jazeera is kind of like that. They have a bunch of sports channels, a couple news channels, a documentary channel, and now a second kids channel.
Jazeera is funded by he government of Qatar - a staunch ally of the United States and home to a large U.S. Marine base. This is not exactly a rogue state we're talking about here.
As for the Bin Laden tapes, if we're going to hold NEWS networks accountable for every NEWSWORTHY wack-job that sends them a diatribe, then we'll have to lump NBC in with the Virginia Tech shooter, and the New York Times in with the Unabomber.

The comments I see on here exposes so many of you as the mindless brainwashed minions that you are.
You think because they are a middle eastern based news agency that they are the mouth piece of terrorist groups.
You are so fucking clueless.
They are just as serious as ABC, NBC, FOX, BBC etc.....
In fact, they have all the same access that these other news agencies have including placement with the american military.
I'm not saying they are a great news source but they are certainly better than some american based agencies.
Time to grow up people and get a clue, you are starting to let your ignorance show.

I agree numinant, it seems nowadays current is becoming a platform for racist idiots to spew their garbage.
On topic: Al Jazeera is one of the most respectable news channels in the world. The fact they don't take the usual pro-america stance is only a compliment to their independence.
Petarro, ***ajon and nobama**, linking Al Jazeera to Iran or terrorism only proves your view of the world is limited to seeing 'us' and 'them'. You're just plain wrong in that, the world is way more complicated than you appear to see.
But i already discovered before most of you bigots only see the world in 'The West versus the rest', which is why you probably hate things like this so much.
People like you arent giving the united states a good name overseas, i can assure you.

Hi All... this is not fair nor true.
Baraem TV is 100% and JCC is 90% owned by Qatar Foundation for Education, Science and community Development which their main mission is to educate Arab children and open their minds towards the whole world.
Both Channels are 100% independent of the satellite network Al Jazeera and have their own editorial policy way far from what you are writting.

I had read at some time that the content was not the same. Had anyone else? It is very different for English vs. Arab content.
I did find this when trying to answer that question for myself.. I learned along the way that the channels are independent and that they don't share specifically the same news stories. So the information is different.
This is their mission, but I don't know how this applies to kids..

I was very surprised at how misinformed some of the people who watch current are. If you consider yourself to be globally media savvy then you would know that Al-Jazeera is a fairly reputable media source. In fact I would say that Fox news puts an anti-arab focus on everything, which makes people like you associate everything that is from the middle east with terrorism. Do some research before you make comments like that. Those videos that were posted in response in this article were produced in Iran, not by Al-Jazeera. And look up the statistics of how much content Fox news produces for its self. Did you know pundits like Bill O'Reilly used to get talking points directly from the white house? What kind of objective journalism is that? Plus I am a patriot, I love America, but the American people are being turned into ignorant racists by the mainstream media. American media is a joke.
