Human rights group Amnesty International has accused Israel of war crimes, saying its use of white phosphorus in Gaza was indiscriminate and illegal.
White phosphorous is frequently used to produce smoke screens, but can also be used as a weapon as it causes extreme burns if it makes contact with skin.
The use of the substance is not illegal under international law, but the indiscriminate use of any weapon in densely populated areas can be the basis of war crimes charges.
Israel has said it will carry out an internal investigation into the use of white phosphorous following similar claims by other rights groups.
Medics in Gaza say over 1,300 Palestinians were killed during the offensive.

If Palestinians stop attacking Israel, maybe they wouldn't have to deal with all of this. Israel is only defending itself.
Everyone forgets that Israel just didn't wake up and attack. The terrorist in the Gaza strip attacked Israel. There only war crime is that the people in Palestine let their own people attack Israel, and then are amazed when Israel attacks back?
Are there schools in Palestine that teach peace at all? Forgiveness? Tolerance?
Or is it only how to throw rocks, fire weapons, and go to gatherings to foster more hatred?
Palestinians can stop the violence any time they want. Don't attack Israel.
How dare anyone say that Israel is at fault here. They have given warnings over and over. I blame the Palestinian people who don't want peace!!!

From Lebanon To Gaza:
Israel's Déjà VuBy Max Kantar
20 January, 2009
Countercurrents.orgFrom a historical perspective, it's almost eerie to watch the events in Gaza unfold today as they closely mirror the patterns, motives, and propaganda that led to Israel's 1982 "Operation Peace for Galilee" invasion of southern Lebanon. A careful student of history and the ongoing crisis will find that all rhetoric and politics aside, Israel's motivations and aims haven't fundamentally changed over the past several decades

The international community needs to stop looking at the effect and start looking at the cause. Rockets are launched into Israel daily (even during a truce), and Israel is expected to just accept it as status quo. Hamas started as a terrorist group that launched such attacks on Israel. Now they are elected government officials. If they are directly responsible for the current rockets, then it is an act of war. If they are not directly authorizing the attacks, they have a responsibilty as the official governing body to stop them. Is there any surprise that extremist terrorists make bad politicians when trying to negotiate peace? It is a shame, however, that innocent people are forced into the crossfire, no one will argue that.

You guys are so funny in you total lack of knowledge of International law. Amnesty can accuse all it wants. Amnesty accused al-Bashir of Sudan and absolutely nothing was done about it. Amnesty is upported by religious racists of the left. They are not the end all. Human Rights watch has also accused Hamas of violations or "war crimes." Doesn't mean there will ever be justice for Fatah. Your own article says this weapon is not illegal. That means amnesty must prove that it was used in a manner totally not allowed, You have to prove someone died from that munition and PROVE it was not a Hamas fighter. Hamas won't even let you look at most bodies so good luck. On top of that, no Jew will ever go to Amsterdam to be tried by the likes of Jew haters like you. That's why we have Israel, to keep idiots who don't do their homework away. Hitler couldn't kill us, Stalin couldn't kill us, and Osama won't be able to either. We are "chosen" to suffer for you so you can learn something about life. It's just too bad you're missing the lesson. We actually suffer for Palestinian deaths while Hamas glorifies it. If you can't see this, you obviously only read one side. Biased coverage is so 1950 Oh my Oreilys of the left. You go ahead, support your culture of death, denounce us monotheists and keep telling us how you are going to use the laws we WROTE against us. Fat chance. If it weren't for Jewish mothers forcing their kids into law there would be no good laws to protect human rights. Jews even died next to and marched with the Civil Rights movement we talked about all day yesterday. Know this, there are no "civil rights," in Iran. And Iran is who you support if you support Hamas. Do you think we give a shit if Olmert goes to jail? All we care about is that for now, kids in Sderot are back to school. And your version off Hitler lost this battle.

If there is a bright spot for Palestinians in the horrific violence of the last few weeks, it is that Israel's deployment of disproportionate and indiscriminate violence in Gaza has revealed the abnormality of the occupation for millions of people who previously had been unable to perceive it.

JEWS....no....in Europe we call them Jews. We don't say he's a Buddihst or an Aethist much.....but JEWS wear their religion so openly.............they want to be different...they want to be ''chosen'', and although many jews speak out against Israel's WAR CRIMES and abhor the way in which ISRAEL/ISRAELI JEWS/ZIONISTS/ treat the LEBANON and PALESTINE it seems obvious reading this board that even when they can't hide behind propaganda and lies they still want to winge and PLAY VICTIM.
You are not fooling anyone. Look at the picture below and SHAME ON YOU AS A RACE.
SHAME. SHAME... SHAME.
The wolfes in the woods have more humanity than the residents of the part of Palestine occupied by jews whom were hounded out of Europe.

Look back as far you can, and tell when Amnesty International ever spoke out against terrorism peprpetrated against Israel?
Here is the reality. It's fine to kill Jewish children, but it's against humanity to kill Palestinian children.
Like the United Nations, Amnesty International is against the Jews, but they refer to the Jews as, Israelis or zionists. This gives them the chance to try to hide their hatred of Jews; they make it look like, "Oh we have nothing against Jews, we just hate the zionists and Israel." Yeah, right. We know they are really against the Jewish People.
Is there even one person who knows where amnesty international gets its money from? - 3 years ago

"Who finances Amnesty International's work?
The overwhelming majority of our income comes from individuals the world over. We neither seek nor accept any funds for human rights research from governments or political parties and we accept support only from businesses that have been carefully vetted. By way of ethical fundraising leading to donations from individuals, we are able to stand firm and unwavering in our defence of universal and indivisible human rights."

It has become clear that Israel has been using White Phosphorous weapons without any regard of civilians thereby causing massive unneccesary damage. Any decent court will rule this as war crimes / crimes agains humanity.
I'm not even talking about the other crimes Israel committed, for instance deliberately targeting civilians and medics, depriving a people from basic necessities, using palestinian families as human shields and so on.
I hope we can welcome Olmert and Livni in the Hague soon. A strong message must be sent to the world that behaviour like this is not tolerable, not even if it is being committed by Israel or the USA.

i'm glad there is at least recognition of this, but it won't bring back the lives of those 600+ women and children killed. we need to make sure israel knows its actions will not be tolerated by the international community and actually do something about it.

It's about time!!!
By looking at the stats its easy to understand why they are accusing Israel of war crimes:
1)1300+ dead
2) 5,500+ wounded
3) 10K+ homeless
4) 20K homes destroyed
5)Nearly all infrastructure including hospitals and schools destroyed.
6) No water, No electricity, little humanitarian aidIf this these are not war crimes, i don't know what is.
Also i think Its really interesting how they pulled out right before Obama's Inauguration. It's almost like this whole thing was planned from the beginning!!!

I think the Hamas people are misunderstood. They try their best to provide the palestinians with basic needs that they cannot get from Israel; they provide social programs and has gained popularity in Palestinian society by establishing hospitals, education systems, libraries and other services throughout the West Bank and Gaza Strip.
Unfortunately they have used terrorism to fight their wars like suicide car bombings and such, but to be fair, I don't think they have enough finances or funding to buy missiles and train an entire army to fight their enemies. This is their way of fighting a war...I'm sure they would use the same missiles and guns that Israel has if they could afford.

Thank god!!! someone is going to punish Israel for this unnecessary assault of Palestinians!!!
I hope someone...maybe the prime minister of Israel gets punished for the deaths of over a thousand people!
While they're at it, maybe someone should look at the checkpoints in Gaza and how some of the people on the strip can barely get to the essentials they need to stay alive like food/supplies/medical help.

Israel is receiving unbridled support from the United States (the other young-pup in the political standpoint of earth) because we are the only nations who ousted the indigenous populations (or as indigenous as one can get in the middle east) and called it political sanctions.
great job, looks like it backfired and you blame them [Palestine(what's left of it)] for the problem, when you [Israel] created it. - 3 years ago

The only honorable members of the House, voting against unconditional support for Israeli killing of Palestinian children, were Democrats Dennis Kucinich (Ohio), Maxine Waters (California), Gwen Moore (Wisconsin), and Nick Rahall (West Virginia), along with Texas Republican Ron Paul. And Mr Kucinich put the whole case for their vote when he said
"In Gaza, the United Nations gave the Israeli army the coordinates of a UN school, and the school was then hit by Israeli tank fire, killing about 40. The UN put flags on emergency vehicles, coordinating the movements of those vehicles with the Israeli military, and the vehicles came under attack, killing emergency workers. The Israeli army evacuated 100 Palestinians to shelter, and then bombed the shelter, killing 30 people."
Blunt stuff – but it cut no ice with the 390 members of the House who voted for Israel to continue its killing.

As usual Nader is right on the button ;)
http://www.commondreams.org/view/2009/01/17-1A few gems...
"There is more dissent against this destruction of Gaza among the Israeli people, the Knesset, the Israeli media, and Jewish-Americans than among the dittoheads on Capitol Hill."
"The bias is clear. It is always the Palestinians' fault. Right-wingers who would never view the U.S. government as perfect see the Israeli government as never doing anything wrong. Liberals who do not hesitate to criticize the U.S. military view all Israeli military attacks, invasions and civilian devastation as heroic manifestations of Israeli defense."
"Then when Hamas was freely elected to run Gaza, the Israeli authorities cut off the tax revenues on imports that belonged to the Gaza government. This threw the Gazans into a fiscal crisis-they were unable to pay their civil servants and police."
"The horror of being trapped from fleeing the torrent of the most modern weapons of war from the land, air and seas is reflected in this passage from Amira Hass, writing in the leading Israeli newspaper Haaretz:
"The earth shaking under your feet, clouds of choking smoke, explosions like a fireworks display, bombs bursting into all-consuming flames that cannot be extinguished with water, mushroom clouds of pinkish-red smoke, suffocating gas, harsh burns on the skin, extraordinary maimed live and dead bodies."
"Since 2002, more than 50 Arab and Muslim nations have had a standing offer, repeated often, that if Israel obeys several UN resolutions and withdraws to the 1967 borders leaving 22 percent of the original Palestine for an independent Palestinian state, they will open full diplomatic relations and there will be peace. Israel has declined to accept this offer."
The universally accepted definition of INSANITY is to persist in the same behavior but expecting a different outcome.
