This is a really interesting concept that I would like to throw out to my fellow Current peeps. Channel 4 in the UK has asked journalists, MPs and personalities to describe the George Bush presidency/legacy in 10 words.

Such as

"Unfairly caricatured, he goes leaving America to smarm and spin." - Anne Widdecombe MP

"No president in history ducked shoes as well as Bush." Tony Parsons, author.

and mine

"Often ridiculed, massively out of his depth and exposed early" Beta_Boy

You are not serious, are you? You really think these people saying these negative comments, excuse me, reflectively truthful comments about DubWah were influenced by the media?????????????? "The media THINK for you" to be more exact. Although, yes, i agree there is not one journalist I would base my beliefs and information on. The entire public at large should take every word from the media with a confirmable second source, and a dash of salt thrown in.
Unless you and your one respondent in agreement have been living on another planet, you wouldn't dare challenge these well chosen descriptions of the former Oval Officers' largest gatherer of dust?
Do give us all a break. His fellow GOPers deny knowing him, ever knowing, him or that the name even sounds familiar. These opinions are mostly well founded and perfectly justifiable.
The guy was/is a criminal, was/is a coward of the worst kind, and he could/should pay for every law he broke, along with Dickie boy.

yes he did, and he did so under the guise of 'protecting the american people.'

we're worse off because now they hate us.

perhaps people of the muslim world will embrace obama and know that he will not continue a holy war started by bush misleading the american people.

Holy and War do not go togeter whoever is using it. Bush is loved by Muslims in many parts of the world because he used hat "peaceful religion" crap to describe the fascists. Obama had better keep his eyes open and his finger on the trigger or we'll all be answering to a mullah and bowing nose-to-but every Friday

he kept us safe from all those crazy arab muslim middle eastern islamic dusty terrorists, huh? [/sarcasm]

you need a reality check dude.

they were cool with us until we invaded iraq. the reason bin laden or whoever wanted to attack the US is because he knew we wouldn't be able to get him. so here we are in iraq, pissing our soldier's lives away, and he's laughing so hard he busted his dialysis catheter out.

anyway, bin laden's dead. neither he nor 9/11 is the reason we're in iraq or afghanistan.

and now a whole lot of middle easterners hate us because they know damn well we invaded under false pretenses and they believe the american people stand by their government. we may have just saved ourselves by voting in president obama. at least now the middle east may realize we're not out to harm them but just that we were misled.

    • To those of you who applaud Bush, I have one question. Have you ever seen Zeitgeist or Zeitgeist addendum?

And as for Obama, the jury is still out on him, he just took office.

    • To the person who said that in the future that Bush would be judged a good president: are you nuts? this war criminal had people tortured! This scumbag and his administration did away with our Constitution with the passing of the Patriot Act and other repressive laws he inacted including warrentless searches, secret courts, and the murder of our servicemen and women in a personal vendetta against saddam! Obama must appoint a special prosecutor and bring Bush,Cheney, and their administration to justice! Bush a "good president" If you believe that then you are a right wing nutjob!

    • Ahem, not that I would ever disagree with the remarkable efforts shown on this thread to find ten words [or one] to describe our former President - but I must recognize precedent.

One of our lesser known Philosopher Laureates, Francesco Zapponi, Esq, wrote a remarkable song many years back. It was a poem spoken through an echoplex.. It described a country totally out of control, run by fanatics and bigots, and it began with the following words,

      "Whoever we are
      Wherever we're from
      We shoulda noticed by now
      Our behavior is dumb

      And if our chances
      Expect to improve
It's gonna take a lot more
      Than tryin' to remove
      The other race
      Or the other whatever
      From the face
      Of the planet altogether."

Mr. Zapponi used 3 words which I think also best describe another man. One we know all too well after 8 miserable years.

      Those words are -

      "DUMB ALL OVER"

that's why the difference of the approval rating between the two is almost 50 percentage points.

      bush - 22% (CBS)
      obama - 71% (WSJ)

      nice try.

      edbr writes,

"..since when were we required to attack a country preemptively? last i checked, that had never been done before."

Wrong. You are exposing your youthful virtue.

Thus I must say I am shocked (SHOCKED!) that you could cast asperions on the character of our last President.

This was the first President in history brainless enough to singlehandedly torture logic and conform US military policy retroactively to justify Japan's attack on Pearl Harbor, and ignore the needless deaths of thousands of Americans!

Admit it. Not everyone would do that. Or dream of it.

mjsmith is absolutely correct. The boys from Imperial Nippon Inc. were brave patriots to push their efforts to expand the East Asia Co-Prosperity Sphere.

Sure, they did "unpopular things." But they had to or they wouldn't get richer. Sure, the scam wasn't something politically tasteful. And they had to assassinate and intimidate a lot of people to hold power and extend their Empire.

Of course, none of that prevented any of them from being executed for war crimes, but the main points were covered by mjsmith.

These are: As long as any crackpot regime can claim it's the right Imperial Policy, the dumbest minority within any given population will never think twice about its downsides, but instead exclaim - "Sure it was unpopular!"

what do you know that we don't?

until you state facts, your opinion means very little. nobody knows exactly what obama brings to the white house, since he's only arrived there today.

withhold your judgments and prejudice at least until you have evidence of your statement.

      [/joke]

Honorable does not include bombing women and children on purpose, torturing people for useless information and stripping a nation of its God given rights to freedom!

Intimidating to the women and children he bombed and the, more then likely, thousands he tortured.

Determined and dedicated to harming our souls beyond redemption.

About as honest and sincere as it gets! There were no truths left untouched!

Brave unless you count the fact he never had to lift one finger unless it was to drink champaign during his service time.

Unswerving unless you count the fact that he changed his posistion on weapons of mass destruction right at the end too.

Unpopular ok you got me there, how obvious.

    • I can't even muster up enough strength concerning him to get to five words. And really, since Obama has been inaugurated now why are people wasting their time still talking about Bush? We need to moven on, right? It is obvious in this country that any president can do whatever he likes and get away with it... then we all sit and criticize as if we had no control over what happened. The sooner the American people as a whole understand their culpability in what their 'elected' officials do when they sit and do nothing, the sooner we may actually begin to see some change in this country.

Speak the truth, I am behind that 100%! Don't let a new name and face fool you just because the color of his skin changes doesn't mean the power and money strangle hold over our nation has changed!

The wonderful thing about change is it will happen no matter what, you know people will not put up with this forever and one good thing about Bush is he woke ALOT of people from sleeping. The sh*t glass is half empty some times? :D

I'll bash anyone that disobeys the rule of law. Now, either they haul him to jail or we tell the people they are offically surfs to king obama. On the other hand there is always anarchy, no law is better then a king who does not have to obey it... if there is a third option I am definately listening!

I agree wholeheartedly. No use ridiculing him anymore. Why don't all the "bush-bashers" move on and just appreciate that he's out of office? The haters' words are useless now.

In the years to come it will be common knowledge that George W. Bush was, in fact, a good president.
