The war on drugs is working! The war on drugs makes Americans slaves! It makes pharmaceutical companies rich!. It makes drug lords powerfull and dangerous.! I ensures that kids can get pot easier than they can get beer ! It prescribes medical marijuana in the hospital. Then arrests patients in the courtrooms when they dont buy from them. The war on drugs is working!!! Against the will of the American people>

Living in a right-winged holdout, it becomes appalingly clear that prohibition or at least the tactics and punnishments employed to enforce its prohibition, have become far more harmful and damaging to the users, their families, their communities, and society as a whole, than the plant, it's constituents or it's products and use. And when one learns of who does the lobbying to prevent reform it becomes obvious that the alcohol and pharmaceutical industries are the only threat to progress.

Having marijuana classified as a narcotic has done nothing but increase the prison population, ruined the lives of productive citizens and made SOME people a LOT of money! There is Absolutely NO harm from toking on a doobie to chill out! If people have the choice to fry their brain with Alcohol, they should be given the choice to expand their consciousness with hemp. Our forefathers grew the stuff, it is the most versatile plant on the planet, to be used for food, clothing, medical purposes. And it makes you feel good too!

I think millions of government dollars are going into nothing.Teens are smoking it more and more each day.I know this because I see it. And I live on the country side.Whenever they talk about it in school kids just laugh at what the teachers say. Because they're for legalization. The numbers have not dropped but they have increased smoke use, more violence was seen in Mexico in 2008 due to drug trafficking over 2000 people died just by it, and even Harvard University doctors encourage the use. It's time to do something about it in 2009.

I used to smoke pot quite a bit when I was younger, but quit a long time ago. I support legalization, but don't recommend habitual use. It can be risky for people with latent psychological problems. It can also be a giant time waster. Pot makes you respond to "Hey, Stupid" ten percent slower.

You are right that people tend to blame something or someone outside of themselves for their failures. I stated that I support legalization, but do not recommend habitual use. I have a lot of experience, and I stand by that statement. Also, pot affects different people differently. If it is nothing but good, for you, then keep on using it, and I hope you never experience the other side of it.

I hope that this subject is put to bed, it is long past the time to make Mother Nature legal. At least Mr. O. has enough sense to realize the so called war on drugs is a utter failure as well as a waste of time and money that can be used for the betterment of America and its people instead of wasting it on DEA and putting innocent pot smokers in prison for nothing wrong. Put all the drinkers in prison and then we'll talk about Mother Nature being legal or illegal. When It comes to Mother Nature being illegal, Illegal is a sick bird named Ill-eagle.

first of all sorry this is on here twice i wanted to say this first part to the one guy and kept on going forgetting i was in reply.....
anybody who is saying it makes you paranoid and this and that... thats what it does to you and some others because you cant handle it. but what i came to say in the first place is i smoke cigarettes and weed daily, and i drink on occasions and i believe of the 3 marijuana should be the legal one. people die all the time from drinking and driving and lung cancer. im pretty sure everyone knows someone who has even if through a friend. and truthfully my friend got caught smoking weed so his parents started giving him drug tests so he started drinking all the time which is not an improvement in my opinion. now some people would say he should just stay sober but im trying to say he was doing fine with pot and died because of alcohol.

People, listen up. Our government is not some holy institution that exists for the people. It is controlled by corporations and that is why they have cart blanch. Legalizing cannabis will be a great equalizer and help many people to be on a more level playing field with big business. We need to make weed legal indeed.

Here in Holland, marijuana has become legal ages ago,or better,it has been discriminalized. You are allowed to have 3grams max on you, strictly for personal use.Marijuana is what we call a "soft drug" and can be bought in your local "coffee shop".The shopkeeper pays his taxes like any other pubowner or restaurantowner. And then of course, there's the hard drugs like heroin, cocain, crack, xtc, etc. But that's a different story, including police, justice, conviction, jail, etc. As a result of this policy,or maybe despite of it,in our country fewer people are addicted to drugs (soft or hard)than in the countries around us.And although I know, that there are people, who are likely to get addicted almost instantly even to marijuana,I am still convinced that that has nothing to do with how easy or how hard it is to get the stuff. My own son became a hasjish-junkie when he was just 13 and now he's nearly 40 and in rehab again, with a broken marriage,no job,a brain, once so brilliant, now nearly gone up in pot-smoke,poverty and you name it.But he'll always be my son and I just hope things will get a bit better before I die,for his sake. And nevertheless I feel that the "hard drug--soft drug" is the best approach. In that way,you Americans could decriminalize the greater part of your prison inmates,I suppose.Would save you a lot of money and misery.

I agree with many of your points although I am not so sure about what happened to your sun. You say he became a hashish junkie at 13. Did you know that many types of hashish also contain opium? Perhaps it is the opiates that led to your son's decline?
I have smoked cannabis on and off since I was 13 and I did not experience what you described because of cannabis, however I did experience a decline of my own. It was caused by an excessively low self esteem and some psychological problems I had relating to my world view as influenced by my parents religious beliefs. Now that I am out from under the tyranny of those beliefs and live in freedom of mind, I am more well adjusted.
My addictions that didn't last for very long were to other substances like cocaine and for a short time, methamphetamine. Thankfully I saw the destructiveness of these substances and took steps to eliminate them from my life. I have not touched those drugs for over 10 years now.
Even my cannabis use has gone down to almost nil, just because the stuff they grown in Oregon is quite potent and you really only need a couple of hits to get blazed. I work with math everyday in my job, so I need to keep my mind clear so I can think. When I use cannabis, I use it to relax before going to bed; it helps me sleep. I also use it for pain and sometimes nausea for my HIV medications.
I do know that cannabis smoking in youth can have a deleterious effect in reducing ambition and drive, it impedes short term memory and inhibits the mind's ability to retain information; like when kids are blazing while they are in class. I would have to say that although I am 100% for legalization, I don't think that children should be smoking it. I think a person should have to be at least 18 years old to use it.

Pot legalization was the number one thing on the www.change.gov poll. That says a lot. We are losing all freedoms. I read 2 ads in the newspaper that said:
"You will be tested for nicotine, so if you smoke do not apply!"
Wow, I am not a smoker of cigs or pot (because it is illegal). But I hate that we line up like cattle and pee in a cup to satisfy employers. Where will all this end and why is that NOT an invasion of privacy? Because companies have cart blanch to do as they please.
just as an example as far as ruining the mind, look at Paul McCartney and Mick Jagger....still as healthy and creative as ever and have used MJ since teenagers.

Thanks to both of those guys for dedicating the time to vocalize their message.
No matter what the message is it is the duty of every American to stand up and question that which they feel is unjust or wrong.
Some may not agree with the message like we do, but ALL MUST appreciate your dedication to bringing about change in a non violent and civil manner.
You guys represent the spirit of American Activism being reborn.
Keep on engaging in peaceful democratic change, it is very effective if your truly dedicated to the cause.
Most importantly, continue transparently engaging in acts of civil disobedience via smoking cannabis, growing it, and encouraging others to stop drinking and start smoking.
Show them the folly of their ways and convert them into fighters of the cause.
Three cheers to you fine gentlemen!!!!!

Pot makes people paranoid, emotional. People do a lot of stupid things on pot. And you can't say I don't know because I didn't smoke it because I did... every day for years. I have bipolar and it just made everything a hundred times worse and led to my hospitalization.
If it's legalized people will be smoking it in public. Whatever happened to MY right to be healthy and free from second hand smoke? Suddenly I am forced to remove myself from situations and move my day around just because someone wants to smoke at the bus stop? Oh, I'm sorry I was late for work. I had to walk to the next bus stop where no one was smoking and missed the bus as an effect. You really think my boss would buy that? Or suddenly I'm forced to put my health in danger just to survive. Just like cigarettes. Fuck cigarettes. I've been forced to be around smoking all my life, and thanks to my wonderful parents who smoked around me my entire childhood, I have cancerous cells and tar in my lungs. And I've never picked up a cigarette a day of my life, and hadn't even smoked weed yet at the point where I found out.
So why do I have to suffer because you choose to kill yourself?

i'm sorry for your pre-existing condition. but it seems that being bi-polar might have a lot more to do with your experience with pot than you realize. every person i've ever met who smoked weed are not emotional and paranoid. not one person.
also, just because you had a bad experience with pot doesn't change the fact that it's still unconstitutional to criminalize marijuana.
finally, there are several laws around the country preventing people from drinking alcohol or smoking in public areas. and if you don't like being around it, simply remove yourself from the situation. your fears are unfounded based on your own personal experience. this is supposed to be a free society. in a free society people are supposed to be able to choose how to live their lives without the govt. acting as another mommy or daddy. free and brave or cradle to the grave. you can't have both.

Everyone I know who was on marijuana was paranoid and emotional. And no, they didn't all have mental problems. None of them did, really. So you can't say that everyone would benefit from it, because it would hurt more than it would help.
I can't remove myself from every single place where people are going to be smoking pot. That would infringe on MY FREEDOM.
As for saying you should be able to smoke pot because it's your right... then it must also be your right to murder anyone who looks at you funny, rob the convenience store, or steal an hdtv from best buy. You shouldn't be able to do it because it restricts the freedoms of others. It restricts my freedom to breathe clean air wherever I want. And honestly, that's a more reasonable freedom rather than "I just wanna get high".

My ex girlfriend for 2.5 years is bipolar, and she smoked marijuana often with me. It never made her more emotional or schizo or anything like that, so what you are experiencing is your own perception of the herb
Not all bipolar people will react to it the same way. as far as hindering or helping people, you can say it will hinder more, since you are not everyone, people will decide on their own whether its bad or not, the government should not be our mother. We have minds and people can choose for themselves.
Maybe marijuana does impaire memory, "makes you do stupid things", and all the ther negatives you can list. but no one beats their wife because they get high, no one beats their children cause they get high, no one rapes, gets in fights, or any of that sort when they get high, infact no one has died from marijuana.
i think you need to rethink your drug war, and focus on alcohol which causes alot worse things and makes people do alot more stupider shit. I would way rather be friends with a pot head than an alcoholic, i would rather live in a world full of stoners than in a world full of alcoholics.
Why is alcohol legal? Why are ciggeretters legal? Bhutan outlawed all tabacco smoking in their country, and the citizens dont mind, smoking anything else was not outlawed, and this is a BUddhist nation. so if you rather smell ciggerettes on the street than pot, ur whole argument is worthless since tabacco is far more worse for you.
If i was Amerikan, yes it would be my right to smoke pot, because its my right to grow a garden and plant the things i want, and its my right to partake in whatever crop i grow. Furthermore if it is bringing me medicinal support i have even a greater right to use it.
If you think smoking marijuana is as bad as murdering someone or robbing a store, your perception maybe quite skewed, i am only putting myself at risk when i smoke.
Since alcohol is not allowed to be drunk on the streets, it should be the same thing with pot, or have pot cafes where you can go and smoke. So check it out you'll have all the "fresh air" you'll want to breathe along with all the carbon and mercury and ciggerette smoke.

birds of a feather flock together? i think the overwhelming majority of people on this board would agree with me about people who consume cannabis. it mellows most people out. and... i never said everyone would benefit from it. although, pretty much every new study on marijuana that has been conducted in the past few years has trumpeted the medicinal benefits of mj.
again, there would probably be laws similar to those concerning cigarettes and alcohol. so marijuana will only be smoked in places where it is legal to do so and in peoples' living rooms. your freedom in this situation will be protected.
your final paragraph is just a wee bit of a stretch to say the least. in fact it's down right ridiculous. my rights end where your rights begin. therefore i have no right to murder, or to steal. you're reaching here. so, unless you're in my living room or a bar/coffee shop where weed can be smoked your freedom and my freedom can be preserved.

Your kinda foolish.
I am sorry you have bi-polar but if you used cannabis and it made it worse shame on you for continuing to use it.
Nobody forced you to smoke everyday and worsen your condition.
As for your rant on second hand smoke...
THATS BS, there is NO solid proof that second hand smoke actually has ANY effect on individuals unless you are in a small enclosed location for extended periods.I doubt you have cancer and tar in your lungs from 2nd hand exposure.
Forgive my bluntness, but you seem to blow things out of proportion and exaggerate the truth a bit for dramatic effect.
SUCH AS: Suddenly I am forced to remove myself from situations and move my day around just because someone wants to smoke at the bus stop? Oh, I'm sorry I was late for work. I had to walk to the next bus stop where no one was smoking
THATS THE DUMBEST SHIT I HAVE EVER SEEN.
Bus stops are outdoors IDOIT.
THE EXHAUST OF THE BUS AND PASSING CARS IS WAY WORSE THAN A SINGLE SMOKER STANDING NEAR YOU.If I was your boss and you used that lame ass excuse with me I would send you to the company doctor for a MENTAL EVALUATION.
Lastly how dare you whine about your individual right to be free of what the masses are engaging in.
If you don't like it don't stand near smokers.

As far as i know, any sort of reaction to marijuana was likely a result from the combination of marijuana at too high of a dose (or a new smoker) and/or combined with an already existing disability. Chances are that your brother already was schizophrenic and cannabis was just the trigger on an already loaded gun. I am no doctor so research it yourself. There are studies indicating both sides--- cannabis being the cause, and others saying that cannabis is the exacerbating factor.

At most, the marijuana simply brought to the surface an underlying condition. It certainly didn't cause it. Recent research has proven that marijuana does not provoke psychosis or schizophrenia at all. Correlation is not causality, but it is of course easier to point the finger at marijuana than to accept the real cause, the reality of a pre-existing condition that happened to manifest itself at the time or shortly after the use of pot.

The whole issue is so 'disproportionate' be it the sentences handed out in southern US states, or perhaps the ruination of many young students career prospects if arrested within the USA & U.K.
However, the evidence is out there, it is a 'life-prolonging' herb, it balances our immune system as we age. It allows for the body to 'Uptake' the Omega fatty acids.
It is one thing to take Omega 6 but another for your body to allow it in where it is needed.
To allow the 'normalisation' of 'Hemp farming' would for the U.K at least, allow farmers whom have had a rough time recently to work their lands, cars can be run on hemp oil, infact one can make cars from hemp.
The people affected by the floods in England would never have been affected had hemp been grown around the area. And seeing as they have been hit by floods for 2 maybe 3 times running it is feasable
to see that someone could easily have thought of this.In the U.K P.M Gordon Brown stated his feelings 11 years ago when replying to a media interviewer's question that his own opinion on the matter was that the use of cannabis or hemp was wrong & so on.
However, in the light of much fresh evidence he dis- regards the ACMD's decision to whom he commissioned to look at the issue of cannabis and strenghts of modern day cannabis, even after telling the committee to have another look at the matter with regards to young people, cannabis and pschosis.
Yet, after taking another three days the ACMD still came to the same conclusion i.e. that cannabis should remain in Class C. Gordon however, sticks to his bias judgement and insists that it should go to ClassB and that will happen a couple of months time.If any laywers are looking in surely this is open to challenge, seeing he has been of this view for at least 11 years.

there is no difference between pot and alcohol. Pot can be regulated in the same manner. Isn't it time we dropped the hipocracy and decriminalize it make it available in a controled way and take some of the violence and cost out of it. the money is needed in so many more ways especially now. Alcohol destroys brain cells, pot heals them.
Alcohol is addictive, pot isn't.
Alcohol destroys the liver, pot has no negative effect on any part of the body - one need not smoke pot, one can ingest it.
Alcohol renders people aggressive, often lethally so, pot has a pacifying effect.
The list goes on and on and on.

There are many smart, rich people who smoke pot on a daily basis and continue to stay smart and rich. I always find it funny when people who aren't very smart start to mouth off about how marijuana 'destroys lives'. There is nothing wrong with putting in a day of labor and then going home and smoking some pot. Any intelligent and responsible adult should be able to relax and smoke their herbs at home without being bothered by idiots like Steven44. Marijuana helps us make well thought out and fair business decisions while also allowing us to manage our employees in a more empathetic fashion when we need to. The paranoid feeling most first time or unconditioned users feel dissipates after a while leaving, for many, a relaxed feeling which naturally serves as a pain reliever. If it were not for marijuana, my fiance would have to spend thousands of dollars fixing his destroyed cartilage in his knees and shoulders. Luckily, however, marijuana relaxes him enough so that his joints do not lock up and so that he can function normally and pain-free throughout the day.
Anyone who still wants to act like a jerk-off about marijuana should watch the movie "In Pot We Trust".

There are so many people who are just like the individuals suffering in this movie. To continue to make these people criminals is absolutely absurd.

legalize it, tax it, get rid of the scumbags who sell it on street corners. Save billions by not having cops spend countless hours on it which takes away from tracking the DUIs which kill many Americans a year. It is Not as damaging to the body OR mind as the worst drug known to man...ALCOHOL. it kills your liver and your brain cells. Do the research.

anybody who is saying it makes you paranoid and this and that... thats what it does to you and some others because you cant handle it. but what i came to say in the first place is i smoke cigarettes and weed daily, and i drink on occasions and i believe of the 3 marijuana should be the legal one. people die all the time from drinking and driving and lung cancer. im pretty sure everyone knows someone who has even if through a friend. and truthfully my friend got caught smoking weed so his parents started giving him drug tests so he started drinking all the time which is not an improvement in my opinion. now some people would say he should just stay sober but im trying to say he was doing fine with pot and died because of alcohol.

The same thing can be said about alcoholic beverages, but if you don't like the way it makes you feel its as simple as "don't do it." You shouldn't try to restrict people for the way it makes you feel. Everybody feels different off of the same things. If the people want to do it (legal or illegal) there going to, but if it was legal you have alot of non-violent marijuana offenders out of jail and keep thousands more from getting "boned" by the big hard shaft of the law.

If you cannot handle m.j. please do not do it. For the nost of us who can handle smoking it and be productive members of this nation please legalize it. It is a natural plant. It would surly take care of our budget problems. Man made drugs seems to do more harm than natural ones. I cannot see the reason for weed to be made out to be among the man-made drugs that are killing and maiming our population.

Marijuana should be legalized, taxed and regulated for medical and recreational purposes.

right on Jubal - I am all for industrial and commercial purposes. By the same token, as a pot smoker I want to come clean: marijuana should be legal for recreational purposes - so I always emphasize that point.
And Steven44, in a way it is spam, because i write that everywhere and anywhere marijuana is discussed. Indeed, I advocate marijuana use, if you have not tried it I encourage you to do so.

Right on Unimatrix0. I too am a smoker and wish to come clean that I want it to be safe and legal for medicinal and recreational use. This whole war on drugs has been a catastrophe and has only served to destroy many lives, through incarcerations and violence generated by fools trying to jack a grower.
I think that if it is legalized, that act would take the wind out of the sails of the narco traffickers that seem to be at the root of all the problems relating to the violence associate with Cannabis.

I guess Barack Obama is apart of the 97%. He said in 2004 he does not support the legalization of marijuana, but he may support decriminalize it. He also said that "the war on drugs has been an utter failure" and "we are not doing a good job." He says we need to rethink our policies.

Hahahaha
Steven44, you're such a loser. With regards to the last two comment areas I've read of yours, your comments are snippy, ill researched, puerile and banal. You remind me of my loser birth father who gave me up for adoption, never went to college, cleans houses for a living, reads autobiographies of crappy presidents like reagan (hanging on every word and spitting the ideas these idiots write about themselves rudely into other peoples' faces), and still rides high on his conservative Christian horse. Really, all you do is irritate people. Congratulations on being the only person who has ever reminded me of my creep of a birth father!

the thing about people like him (conservatives) is that theyre miserable and too insecure to allow themselves to be happy. Because of this they are furiously jealous of others who are more enlightened and do all they can to drag them down so they wont feel so left out. They cling to the things they believe keep them on the straight and narrow, hiding in the herd, never to venture out, never to think for themselves, destined to die miserably, usually holding on to the hope that they will live forever because they were a good (miserable) christian, and Jebus is infact going to make them immortal. sad. Oh and this poll is kind of useless considering this is one of the most liberal sites Ive ever seen, kinda like FOX news taking a poll on peoples' opinions of bush, just a bit biased..

Damn smallgod, you sure know a lot about your birth father even though he gave you up for adoption. I've got an auto biography for you to read, that of Mr. Bob Marley. How about practicing some love, man?
