    • They should require birth control for anyone on government wellfare programs. No shot, no check.

      Make it temporary of course because I'm well aware that bad things happen to good people, not everyone tries to make a career out of these programs, some TRULY need assistance at times. That's what the program IS designed for.

    • oh, i forgot to ask why is it if we are in an economic collapse and don't have the money to help ourselves then why are we sending money we don't have to other countries for this same issue of birth control?... that does not sound economically viable .. just a thought... if you acctually have an answer id love to hear it... if your just going to continue being ignorant it'll prove what kind of person you are ..

    • well im glad that this did stir up a responce because if i remember correctly this website says to not copy verbatim in your descriptive portion ...well i did as suggested and look at the fruits of that statment, those few words incited many responses and that was part of my goal

      Let me explain what she said.:

      If people continue to hump without considering the consequences babies will continue to be born into families that may not want another baby but also may not have the resources to provide for them.

      If people would put a little more thought into their actions and behave appropriately and use a condom, or birth control when they are looking to just have sex and not make a baby then it will be better for them and the whole community at large.

      She is not advocating any baby killing at all.

      That's why she say's "family planning" and not "baby killing".

      You were right to expect something evil and horrible to come out of this woman's mouth. She has clearly demonstrated that she hates truth, accountability and the American public but alas, she has said nothing about killing babies.

      I am so tired to seeing prople like meth addicts and prostitutes having children that they cannot take care of.... we need a driver's license to drive a steel box but people who are not competent enough to care for a cat are allowed to have childern?!?!? Just so you know ... there are stupid people out there who have childern just to get a welfare check...WTF??

      This is the first thing that Pelosi has done since she got into office that actually makes sense....

    • I'd rather have $1 taken out of my paycheck in taxes to provide free birth control to some poor, meth addicted 23 year old prostitute....than have $25 dollars taken out to pay for 18 years of welfare AND 18 years of paying a team of social service agents to investigate endless charges of child abuse/endangerment because the 23 year-old drug addict decided she was going to keep the kid and raise it with her 18 year old pimp/boyfriend.

      So, yeah, given the choice it is CHEAPER that the 23 year old meth addict NOT GET PREGNANT as opposed to all of us paying massive amounts in taxes to support her, her special needs baby (because she kept doing meth while pregnant) and her pimp boyfriend (whom she eventually marries. But god forbid homosexuals get married! Those people aren't as responsible as wholesome straight couples. Addicted to meth.)

If we're going to fix the problem, let's permanently fix it, not just hand them some band aid that they have a choice to forget/ decide not to take the pill or use the condom. Oh, and in case you're wondering, sterlize the male junkies too, it takes 2 to tango!

      I honestly wish that temporary programs such as welfare/ unemployment etc required people to temporarily forfeit their reproductive rights in order to receive their checks. Now that it can be done with shots that last a month, it'd be easy to implement. No shot, no check.

      YES this does affect our economy because having a child when you're already broke just puts you further into debt.

    • She mumbled through the answer and didn't explain her point properly, but I believe her point was that money spent on pregnancy prevention now is better than waiting until a teenager is pregnant and she'll either have an abortion (gruesome and costly) or will limit her education and the child's chances by having to raise it in difficult circumstances.
      I don't think this belongs in a "stimulus" package, since obviously it's a prevention and delayed cost-cutting measure. So I agree with the ones who are quite upset with Mrs. Pelosi ;)

      And you do understand that even mega-hyperinflation won't completely devalue a common currency. This didn't happen even during the New Deal politics of the Great Depression. The wealth of a currency is based on an arbitrary human trust that the medium they use is worth something in the larger market. Even in the face of financial collapse, good and services can still be made available and still be exchanged for any kind of currency as long as the people trust in it. Yes, that means that gold, fiat currency and horseshit all amount to the same economic value.

      And that is also fairly basic economics.

      teaching responsibility DOES save money in numerous areas. how you can compare that to killing babies is beyond me and illustrates the reach of your critical thinking skills and logic. the previous administration only gave money for sex education to conservative groups that focused on abstinence.

The issues of sex and contraception education, and how that relates to personal and fiscal responsibility, can hardly be fleshed out of a summary used for shock value. By reducing these complicated issues to "baby killing as a business venture" the issues are not engaged critically, but ignorantly.

      No, I understand perfectly that strict political categories are divisive and exist only really as swear words for opponents to use against each other. Political opinions appear neither on a continuum or a spectrum or any other kind of geometrical graph. They're more complicated than basic linear equations.

      That being said, they're also a short-hand way to describe certain general political categories of human beings. A pro-life, fiscal conservative that believes Democrats are trying to create a New World Order with a government based banking system can be described short-hand as a right-wing conspiracy nut.

      Obviously, your beliefs are more complicated than that, rooted in life experience and independent research and reasoning. You may not always agree with this category, but for the purposes of this topic, it's a non-verbose way to describe you.

      But, obviously again, I was making a fucking joke. One which you sadly didn't appreciate given your political state of mind.

      Just FYI, the fact that you couldn't see that probably says something about how arrogant your assessment of other human beings' intellectual capacity is. As a possible solution, I'd recommend pulling your head out of your ass and then doing a fact check on zeitgeist.

      It would probably make you a much more well-rounded, sane and respectable human being.

    • A comprehensive, sensible, and realistic family planning program by the federal government is a nice change from the '50's era dark age of "abstinence is the only true form of birth control" thinking of the previous administration. Teaching kids about safe and effective methods of contraception will, in the long run, save money, improve the general health and well being of teenagers and young adults and last, but not least REDUCE THE NEED FOR ABORTIONS ACROSS THE BOARD.

      Stick that in your pro-life pipe and smoke it.

      Of course, the Monty Python bit sums it up quite well also....

Secondly if you knew anything about economics... even in the slightest bit... you would understand that YES, family planning reduces the amount of money being spent by the state to provide financial aid to those who can not afford yet keep on breeding.       Margaret Sanger, Nazis and eugenics have nothing to do with properly educating the public on sexual health and birth control. If one can indeed refer to, as you do, contraceptives as birth control. Never mind that contraceptives, sexual education and family planning prevent the spread of disease. Just because you have some off the wall, no doubt ridiculous religious conviction to control every last sperm/egg does not give you the ability to create false talking points to further your agenda. Current is a place to discuss NEWS not scantily researched editorials and yellow journalism.

      I would argue that overpopulation is a local issue. In the case of the U.S. we'll be confronted with a shrinking population once the babyboomers start to die off by 2020. You actually need many newborns and immigrants just to compensate for that and keep Social Security and our government in general financed.
      Germany and Japan are already confronted with that problem. Overpopulation is problem for the developing countries to contend with.
