Heath Ledger's insurance company and lawyers for his young daughter Matilda have reached an out of court settlement over a $A15.3 ($US10) million policy claim on behalf of his three-year-old heir.

The suit had been filed by the actor's longtime Hollywood lawyer John LaViolette on behalf of Matilda, after US insurance company ReliaStar had refused to honor the policy because it asserted that Ledger's death could have been a suicide.
