Michael Steele, a former Maryland lieutenant governor, was elected chairman of the Republican National Committee. This makes him the first African-American to be elected as RNC chairman. Steele beat out South Carolina GOP Chairman Katon Dawson 91-77.

I hope he brings the party back to reality! I never hated the republicon party until Reagan started the class war.
I am older and remember Goldwarter, Nixon and other.
Nixon did some bad things, but he did not try to harm the working class, or the middle class, and he started the EPA.

Republicons used to not be so radical and is used to not really make a difference who one voted for. I remember my parents talking about IKE and Truman as they talked about politics all the time. I remeber hearing the names. They were independents. It used to not be so horrible as it is now.

      I see neither as 'shocking'.
Only a racist can be 'shocked' by a man with black skin in a position of power. I view him as a capable and itelligent human who happens to be black. Big fucking deal.
      Shocking? yeesh...

    • Liberals just got their shit handed to them in the rejected 800-some billion bill - nice try, commies!!! Osama, whoops, Hussein now wants to talk to Ahmedinijad, then he will kiss Chaves' ass and finally blow Castro - and everyone will once again love America! PATHETIC, WEAK and FEABLE-MINDED liberal swine!!! The Socialist experiment failed in Russia - why try this shit here. Abolish the unions - they make our manufacturing companies unable to complete. They are corrupt, they hike up the prices and they really do nothing for the workers anymore. They might have been necessary during the industrial revolution to protect the rights of the workers - but we now have labor laws - and the Unions are there for the sake of themselves, robbing both the workers and the enterpreneurs. What about 150Mil for the Innaguration party when the country is in the financial slum? Bitch out the Wall street, harrass big business (those who give the jobs to people) - but Hussein deserves his 150Mil party? 8Mil was contributed by Citicorp - same one the Govt bailed out - how's that for hypocrisy? North Korea wouldn't be acting up with McCain at the wheel - guarranteed!!! But Hussein didn't even make a statement on this subject - why? Cause he don't know any better - and "they" didn't tell him what to say yet. Hahaha. Change my ass - with the old Clinton cabinet of consummate liers (politicians) and crooks (someone failed to pay IRS and now he is who?) - the only change you will see is the copper on the bottom of your pockets. Fools who bought into the liberal media American Idol hype. FOOLS!!! Cult of personality, Obama's picture on the classroom walls, like Lenin or Stalin's. Fucking sick, man!!! He hasn't done shit yet - NONE, NADA, ZIP!!! The golden boy of the media - I've never seen so many gullible idiots - sheep. You did not elect Hussein - the media did!!! Reach across the isle my ass - reach enough to feel Pelosi's sagging ass - another commie bitch! And the ever dirty Kennedies and Clintons. My god, what did you people do to this country. It's OK, we'll start taking it back in 2 years and finish in 4 - unfortunately, the damage the Kenyan fool will do will last for 20, just like the Arab puppet and nimwit Carter...

Dude it was Bush's and Paulson's idea and I recall they are super neo-con Lassiez--faire types, and the reason so many pubs voted for Obama is outrage at the lack of stewardship of the government and economy by Bush.

Is Paulson and GW Bush a commie? They are the pieces of garbage whose idea it was to do a turn around and just give the taxpayers loot to their buds who used the money to re-decorate and not lend.

Is Pauleson, Bernanke and GW Bush hidden Commies?

    • I don't know much about Steele. I've heard him comment many times on different television shows and he seems to have a firm grip on reality. I think the choice was between and the Governor of Minnesota. Both seemed to be good choices. The only problem I see with Steele is that he isn't extremely charismatic. But he appears to be extremely intelligent and an expert on government. Good Luck. One observation: White liberals think that they are more black than African American Conservatives. The funny thing is that most White Liberals don't even have any close friends that aren't White. Weird.

And where exactly do you come by this information that "most White Liberals don't even have any close friends that aren't White?" Or, dare I suggest it, are you suffering from a severe case of ass-speak-mouth-won't?

Hey, here is a PM that McCainiac sent me:

"I grew up with black friends. Later in life I ended up living with blacks, though they were know as negroes, niggers, pimps, ho's, brothers, and sisters. I ended up moving in with my black girlfriend and over time I realized that not to many white mother fuckers really got to know any black people. They may work with some, play sports with some, go to school with some but they are not family to any. In fact I noticed that a lot of black people had lost the connection to their black roots. I'm sorry you think I'm talking from my ass. I usually just ignore assholes like you, but I thought I'd share. Of course you're probably the big fucking nigger in your neighborhood and you're training your boys to be some outstanding pimps. It good to here from someone who's so in touch with the ghetto."

      Good stuff, McCainiac!

    • Well, only a matter of time before the GOP does their patented character assassination attempts on Obama via Steele...they've been doing their practice runs on Fox News for several years now. Why put it in the mouth of another minority? Well, so when they cross the line and bring up something that has always been the excluding agenda of the GOP against minorities, they can just say, "Well, our Chairman is Black...and our Black is better than your Black!" or some other BS like, "Obama is only half Black, so he doesn't understand the minority plight and interests as well as Steele does!"

I'm sure they are fitting Steele for some tap shoes this instant.

Hopefully this will take the 'racist' rants out of the liberal's. One thing about liberal's are mainly sissies, they whine, name call and have seldom put their ass on the line for this country.

100% projection. Republican pots calling progressive kettles black as always.

      1. You people are so sadly predictable.
      Racist: KKK=GOP, not Democrat

      2. Sissies? Define sissy. Like, do you mean smoking meth with gay whores or blowing undercover cops in park washrooms? Perhaps diapers?
      Again with the projection.

      3. Seldom put there ass on the line for their country like republicabn heroes such as Dick Five-Deferment Cheney and George W. AWOL Bush?

I'm not saying its right, in fact I'm saying its wrong. This is an example of much of the GOP's backward thinking. This statement is similar to much of the vocal racist reaction from the GOP toward President Obama during his run for office. The GOP are such hypocrites.

    • By the way . . . Steele has been mentioned as a potential Chairman for quite some time now. In fact, those discussions started after he lost his Senate bid in 2006 . . . long before we knew Obama was even going to be a candidate. So to call this a reaction or to attribute this to politics is just flat wrong.

He is certainly intellectualy and socially superior to the other candidates and especially that racist who sent the song "Barrack the magid Negro" around.

He is at least sophisticated, thoughtful, and intellitent.
Intelligence is a trait most republlicons seem to think si elitist. lol

Liberals feel and act the way we do because we are educated and are conscious of the injustices that play out in government every day. Conformists like your self dont see anything wrong because you are not informed enough..... if you were as educated in politics as me and my fellow liberals then you would understand our actions. Besides we took it from you guys for 8 long years.. its out turn!

Don't forget what politics is about. Selling gangs. Obama got elected bcos pple were sick of Bush. Electing Steele might be seen as glib to you but you have to remember that appealing to minorities dont win you elections. Obama had to shed his muslim family ties so that WHITE majority voters would vote for him. Very soon pple will realize that the 2 party system is broken.

    • Gimmicks, gimmicks. There are obvious reasons why Republicans would pick an African-American and not because they are so cosmopolitian. In our country people have a right to their beliefs, and not to sound simplistic, but I feel any African-American who supports Republican philosophies and past actions are traitors to their race as female Republicans are traitors to their gender. The Republican Party has not been kind to them in all modern history.

Ok I'm a democrat but I have a bunch of republican leaning friends and you know what there not racists radicals or gun nuts(although they do own lots of guns). What we all seem to be in agreement on is that the extremes of our parties have hijacked this country. Nancy Palosi does not speak for me and John A. Boehner doesn't speak for them. I for one hope our new president does a hell of a job. In my opinon bashing republicans does not help any of us.

Well . . . other than the fact that it was a Republican who freed them from slavery. Other than the fact that it was Republicans who fought the Dixiecrats to end Jim Crow. What's really shameful is that you probably sat through history classes all throughout your academic career and never heard that.

You must be both Naive, and an idiot who does not know history. First off, it was democrats who wanted to continue with slavery.... you really must educate yourself before you open your mouth. History shows that republicans have had more impact, positively in regards to blacks then Democrats, so get a life and do research

    • I worked a little bit for Steele when he was running for Governor of Maryland. He was such a nice guy.. I got up early one morning, and stood outside in the rain to help with his campaign for a few hours at a country club where he was having a campaign brunch with other maryland officials. After a short while he came out in the rain and called my friend and I over and sat down and talked with us and thanked us for helping him, then invited us into his brunch to eat and meet some very important people. It was amazing. I'm a political science major and that experience alone got me so many connections that I have used, and will probably continue to use in the future.

    • Not to take anything away from Michael Steele he seems to be a really good guy but...Anybody else think that the republican party is desperately trying to shake the stink of the last administration by doing anything that the country might see as progressive. I feel like since about two years ago maybe more there really hasn't been a republican party just a group of individuals loosely strung together because they don't like liberals.

It will be interesting to see if he changes the party or they become more conservative. Every time the republicon party has been down they have retreated into radical conservatism.
I am going to watch and see what they do. In my state they are made up of racists, very rich people who don't want to pay any taxes, and fundamentilists who are afriad to die. Also they are made of up very illeterate white people and the educated one use the iiliterate ones with the race card, the gay card, and abortion.

Its not just liberals they don't like. Different factions dislke lots of different groups. There are the elitists who are classists who like to hate working people and only want cheap cheap labor, and there are the racists who hate anyone who is not white, and there are the fundamentalists haters who hate all religions but their own.

Except for some like David Brooke and Buckley, sanity and reason are not on the top of thier list.

The high republicons like Brooks, Buckley and some others have lost their party to the crazy haters.
