Obama "breaks" his first promise?

But we also had to give him his first Promise Broken for the same signing. As part of his agenda to bring more transparency to government, Obama said he would institute "sunlight before signing" -- posting laws to the White House Web site for five days of public comment before he signed off on them.
Shouldn't we expect our new Commander in Chief Keep his promises? Or, is asking even that much of him, too much to bear? Is this all just a little overrated? Watch the video for yourself in the above link and tell us what you think.

The White House computer systems are an absolute mess right now. Obama's Internet team wasn't even able to update their website for the first week because of antiquated systems and security protocols, and IMing apps aren't even allowed on White House computers. Like the Politico guy said in the video, "They haven't even had email for the past week." I think that this broken promise is more to do with being physically unable to keep it, then purposefully breaking it.

I wasn't there or anything, but I'm pretty sure the absolutely awful White House computer systems took him and his administration by surprise. It'd be pretty hard to foresee that the White House runs on Windows 98.
That being said, if he actually did know the WH computer situation at the time that he made that promise, then yes, it would be a broken promise.

ok im going to clear up this whole Bush thing right now first of all Bush was in office when all this stuff went downhill therefore he was blamed for what happened. His predecessors mostly Clinton caused the dilemma we are in today with the housing market feel free to look it up if you think im wrong im up for debate also when 9/11 struck what could he have done but attack honestly how would the American people have responded if he sat at his desk and allowed this to happen? so he found and assaulted who he knew attacked us at least he took action and had the initiative to do so if a man is shooting at you he probably isnt going to listen to you trying to reason with him. Also about the WMDs (weapons of mass destruction) everyone thinks or sees the picture of a big bomb or nuke in their mind when they think of that. WMDs can be as small as you can imagine so most likely there were WMDs in Iraq you know why? because we sold it to them during the cold war and sold them even more after the cold war the weapons that they attack us with everyday in pakistan and afghanistan those were weapons that they got from us and most of the weaponry in iran they got from us and some from the soviet union so before casting all your blame on one man think to yourself. If we put all our faith in One man (Obama) to fix the National and Global Economy and make everything better how is it that One man (George W) could have caused everything to go down the drain we put too much stock in one thing and that my friends is not what this country is about i think it was Benjamin Franklin who said why reason with one mind when you can reason with many we all have a say we just dont know how to find a voice

He was a puppet, I'm glad we both see that, but the power was more with a handful of elite people. At least that's what i believe. I don't think Iraq really had any WMDs, but that was used as a incentive for the people to want to invade Iraq, whom did not have anything to do with 9/11.

So he forgot to post ONE decision online, BIG FUCKING DEAL. He's a little BUSY.
Seriously, this is the first president who has even BOTHERED to do something like this.
Of course, that doesn't stop conservative drones from jumping all over it. Notice how they emphasize the breaking of the promise over what actually happened? Think that's significant at all?

I feel that this country is a bit too over the top with their approval. The fact that he didn't post up on the internet 5 days prior to him signing something that he was already promising to sign is not a sign of him not providing transparency. The country still knows about his decision and if it doesnt work than its on his shoulders, I think that's about as transparent as it gets. You can't expect all of these ideas and promises to be enacted immediately, and for you to be this judgmental over such a menial short coming makes me cringe.

What about the signing of an bill that prompts the U.S. into more years of war...Alice Walker herself protested this. She went on Charlir Rose's show on PBS talking about it.
Remember Obama is a politician, and also human..soo we can't look at him as though he is totally legit. Again he's human just like the rest of us. And believe me when I tell you, that when it is all said and done, something this man does down the line may trigger the effects of condescending dismay one way or another. I'm just waiting for the effects of this stimulus package that's supposed to create 3 million jobs, and get this country bak on it's feet. Let's just see the effects of that bills power. Only time will tell.

I am finding that, in the absence of having a buffoon for a president, our nation is severely lacking in comedic material. These Obama detractors, who get off on watching his every move and criticizing the minutia of his good deeds, are an excellent substitution for the laughs we're NOT getting from this administration!
So thanks, jerk-offs! Yes, its sooooo heinous that our new president did not ask YOUR advice on whether or not he should pass a bill that would make sure that YOUR MOTHERS AND SISTERS AND DAUGHTERS are not cheated out of equal pay! Oooh, that Obama! What an asshole!

I understand that we should hold him up to his promises but of all the mistakes he could have possibly made, I honestly don't think this is one that should be held up as a serious offense. Yes, we should bring it to his attention but to condemn him for it is ridiculous. Did he not sign a bill that will inevitably help many people ? Thats pretty much where it ends for me. This was an accomplishment.

I think way to many people put to much stock in this man changing anything. I'll guarantee you that most of his votes came from the younger generation. There's a good reason for that, & I don't think I'm saying something that most adults don't know. Kids have been taught in public schools that "they deserve respect, & they don't have to do anything to earn it." B.O. played that card & they fell hook line & sinker. Granted... there are some adults that still have the brains God gives to kids.. & they voted for him too... but the majority of voters for B.O. were under 29 yrs old.
Anyways.. B.O. isn't going to be any different then any other want-to-do-good presidential candidate/ President ever to sit in the White house since J.F.K. So stop whining! You wanted him, now we have him for the next 4 years. If we last that long.

How about giving him a chance and then judging him (by not voting back him into office in 4 years times) instead of passing judgment into the first few days of his administration. We seem to live in a society where everyone wants things done right now and to their specific target. The man said that everything is in flux and that while he hopes to do the things he said he would do, he also reserves the right to change his mind about certain things. And I am fine with someone who is willing to change as a situation requires. Do you remember what 8 years of steadfast belief produced? Go do something productive instead of yapping.

PomeGranite has hit the nail on the head. Give the man a chance, remember he did say he would sign a bill if there was some urgency to it and if you are a woman in this country, you feel the urgency. It's not like he sent our country to war over "weapons of mass destruction" that do not exist!
Blaino, I agree with much of what you have said, however, why would you bring "Obama is black" up? We all know the color of his skin, and it shouldn't make any difference at all.
As much as I love our country, it is sad to see that racism is still alive, greed runs through the veins of many and equality is often just a word and not a reality.
I believe we would be a better country if, the slackers in this world would buck up and take responsibility for themselves, the elitists with an attitude would grow a conscience, and the "haters" in this world would learn to have a heart. Yes, there are people who do and will always need a handout due to age or disability and our focus as a nation should be helping those people.
Obama needs time to adjust to his new position, he will make mistakes and has even admitted that he'll do so.

Obama put in his campaign that he promised change not to which side the change would be good or bad that is belaying from the truth of his words and not only that, he preached about socialism anyone ever heard of the man Karl Marx ,the father of communism, read some of the things he thought up and you have Obama's administration in a nutshell and despite the fact that he promised to open up all of his actions to the public I highly doubt that he is going to open up all the action to us I doubt he wants to cause a fall like the soviet union. Honestly agree though the American nation is filled with people that have no idea the person they elected only knew that he was black if that was the reason that he was elected then the forefathers rolled over in their graves you ever get people to actually learn about their leader and get truly involved we might actually have a sustainable nation.

Well, basically I don't see why people feel they need to sue due to pay discrimination!? What is that anyway...The way I see it is you get paid what you're worth to the organization you work for, and if you don't like it, go work for someone else rather than tying up our court system with such trivial matters and spending taxpayers dollars just to try to get an increase in pay! Why don't you just try working HARDER!

Obama moved quickly on legislation that is going to help your mothers, wives, sisters and daughters get the paychecks they deserve for the work they do above and beyond cleaning up after you and having your babies for you, and you're screaming impeachment for a botched formality? Seeing as this is a matter of justice, it seems to me that it was a bit of an emergency, and therefore Obama was true to his promise. Why don't you folks focus on your Bush apologies and give Obama a chance to do some much-needed work for the country before you come nipping at his ankles trying to get your morally bankrupt, self-serving, hate-fueling Republican party back into power when you resume hypocritcally complaining about how the liberals criticise them for their every little mis-step.

President Obama was a war criminal by his third day in office when he ordered illegal cross-border drone attacks on Pakistan that murdered 20 people, including 3 children. The bombing and strafing of homes and villages in Afghanistan by US forces and America’s NATO puppets are also war crimes. Obama cannot enforce the law, because he himself has already violated it.
Obama’s order said nothing about closing the CIA’s secret prisons or halting the illegal practice of rendition in which the CIA kidnaps people and sends them to third world countries, such as Egypt, to be tortured.
Obama would have to take risks that opportunistic politicians never take in order for the US to become a nation of law instead of a nation in which the agendas of special interests override the law.

lets point it out to him and ask him to do it over.
because as you remember when oath was messed, he did a do over. So then it is our duty as we the people to question him. Maybe we did not have thought to say or speak up at that time. But its never too late to speak up.Will you? Some mistakes can be corrected, though with most messes we must try to clean up immediately, if not then soon as we know of it then, we must deal with it right? So i hope you do bring it to is attention.
I know he said that--with all talk of transparency but
it never occurred to me(as it might have not to others) that something may need to be signed soo soon. And when we heard on the news that is when we would have raised our voices & said, let us see it. then lets meet hm half way & remind him of his promise.instead of getting angry the solution is to communicate with him & team.

I have high hopes for obama I really hope he will change this country around for the better.
However this is the second thing I've heard of him going back on his word. First he approved raids on two medical marijuana dispensaries when he said medical marijuana users wouldnt have any trouble from him.
I hope for his sake that he gets his act together because I honestly think this was the worst possible time for him to become president. So much is happening right now, we are growing tired of Iraq, our economy is in the toilet, anti-prohibition is picking up, and Obama is black.
This is a lot for America to take in at once a lot of big historical changes happeing at once if he doesnt pull through for us there will be so many angry americans just adding to an already bad situation.
