If you want to understand the baffling behavior of Rod Blagojevich -- now the ex-Governor of Illinois -- it would be wise to begin at a waste dump.

How can an unsightly garbage landfill reveal so much about the sensational, sordid, unethical and complicated personality, political history and actions of "Blago" -- as we nickname here in Illinois?

Well, fasten your seat belts....

    • I think it's sad and unfortunate, because I believe he truly does not feel that he deserves what's happening to him.

I don't know enough about the situation he's in, but there is a degree of innocence in him that doesn't deserve the wrath that's befallen him.

If Obama took the same political and moral stance "Blago" is being subjected to, Bush, Cheney and most of Congress would most certainly be prosecuted and ejected from office.

If we have a country of intolerance and a no compassion policy, then we're as good as living in Hitler's Germany. It is those who head the government and who set policy and standards that are responsible for the state of affairs and degree of morality in politics and public life both (although, many don't realize this or simply lack adequate moral character). Those who wish to be public servants under such a system often find they need to adapt, to accept the ways the "big boys" play the game to get ahead and not fall out of favor - thereby prematurely ending their careers.

I don't like the lack of morality and the game playing at all, but I don't can't condemn those who are really victims of what is the "good ol' boys club" themselves.

Yes, I wish there were more people who were stronger, like we believe Obama is. Obama's situation is somewhat unique, as is he. In time, the new President will raise the bar or moral conduct not requiring the same ol' dirty politics - I hope.
