Assisted suicide in a case where it is the person's choice and they are terminal, is not wrong to me. But, with the case being the choice of another that should not be allowed.

For me, DNR!!!! ... DO NOT RESUSCITATE!!
However, that said, I think it's a discretionary thing that should be left up to family. We're kinder to our animals than our suffering humans and that should change! - 3 years ago

i think you should be able to end suffering but suicide in general seems like an easy out. if you're in pain everyday and you just want peace, why should someone deny you that?
"Suicide is not to fear death, but yet to be afraid of life. It is a brave act of valour to contemn death; but when life is more terrible than death, it is then the truest valour to dare to live;" - Sir Thomas Browne
(couldn't find the exact quote but George Carlin would say that suicide was our way of telling God that we quit. lol)

If you want to die you should be allowed to die.
Plain and simple.

The reason people make Living Wills is to aid their family in making this painful and difficult decision in case they are in a vegetative state. Lots of very ill people have DNR in their living wills which means that if they are in the process of dieing they wish to be left alone and not extraordinary means are to be taken to revive them.
If someone fears they will be "unplugged" they should definitely have a lilving will and put their wishes in it.
I know a woman whose brother was brain dead and onlyu living because he was on a machine, and she had to choose becaue he had no living will. I am glad it was not me who had to do that. - 3 years ago

For me it's all about choice. Everyone should be able to choose to end their life, it's just as important a human right as any other right. It needs to be closely regulated though to ensure it's not violated.

I'm for Euthanasia. Those who are not.. that's your personal choice... just don't try to stop me from wanting it. Leave it to the individual.

What about those that don't want to be here? The chronically pained, the always ill, the extremely suicidal?
Give these people a place to leave. It's better than a bridge, gun, poison, and rope. How can someone be a productive member of society if they hate everything about being alive? All this feeding tube buisness is wrong though, we can give lethal injections to prisoners. - 3 years ago

Removing feedings tubes is horrific for familes to go through. We wouldn't put the worst criminals through that kind of torture of watching your loved one die slowly not knowing how much they are aware To bad Italy did not allow for living wills.

My favourite comedy quote about the pope:
“I love the Pope, I love seeing him in his Pope-Mobile, his three feet of bullet proof plexi-glass. That’s faith in action folks!" - Bill Hicks.

There is a difference between Faith and stupidity. God gave us a brain to learn from mistakes. One was, going to a parade in Europe and being stabbed by a Turkish Islamic extremist. Read the story about John Paul II. He normally would ride in a normal car.
Also, have you seen the video of Benazir Bhutto? Ever noticed how she died?
I also know another quote:
"Ignorance is Bliss"
maybe that's your new preferred quote?

Actually John Paul II was shot by the Turkish man, and stabbed by a crazed ultra-conservative Spanish priest a year later.

We are robots...trained to think how the average entity wants us to think...
on religion...leave it alone..be you..who ever reads this on my behalf be you. Pleeeeeease be you!!!!I know that it is a hard feet to withstand, and to bare. Just be you. On one day of your life of this world try avoiding this world and what it wants and needs. What does it want...All you really have your soul...A soul in which we all possess..Well some of us anyway.
What this place wants to do to you is kill you off. Make it quota like you were yesyerday's road kill. They're doing a darn good job of it 2. With media I'm talking about...music, the commercialization of that, and of this, and that of the other. I'm talking about the movies that we see that are all about who had this done to them. Want gain ever came out of it. Realism--movies aren't real...it is called entertainment. And how it worked out. We are a people that cannot thrive without what we see this person do, or that person do. Foods--what we eat..what we see as good looking may kill us off tomorrow. Health--cigarettes pack 4000 chemicals in them. But dozens of people smoke daily. Also they have as much addiction as heroin. Make it your duty to be you. Quit trying to fix everyone, stop following chaos, and gain some control..before it is too late. - 3 years ago

Euthanasia yes.
Creepy anecdotal evidence of people in comas for 20 years being aware of everything; yada, yada, yada: Xian BS.
But do have a living will so you are not vulnerable to some bible thumping hypocrite insisting your body be kept alive when it is obvious your brain/mind is dead.

unimatrix0:
Unimatrix and uponrooftops are right, everyone please have a living will so that your family is never put in a difficult situation where they have to endure even more hardship and heartache making these decisions.
My father is dying from cancer right now...hes pretty much in a coma like state right now barely eating and only opening his eyes for a few minutes at a time. Hes at home though with his family so he can die in peace. We're losing him much sooner than any of us anticipated but the one good thing is that he has a living will (like all of us in my family do) so we can honor his wishes to not be kept alive through ventilators and other crap when his mind and spirit are ready to pass. Please for your loved ones no matter how you are, have a living will so they can honor your wishes instead of deal with drama on top of heartache.

Everyone should write living wills, no matter how old or young they are. You never know what could happen or when it will happen. One day you could be fine, the next you could be in a coma for a year. It is up to you to make that decision and write a letter telling your family what to do.

It should be up to the person, and only the person, I don't think anyone else should have the right to take another person's life in any case, unless it was someone or a child whom did not understand what will come if the decision is made.

Does he think that because God chooses the time when people are supposed to die?
Do you think he has much to say when he rides away in his bulletproof glass buggy?

I hope we are able to gain better insight into those seemingly 'vegetative' states.
And as far as Euthanasia goes: death by starvation does not seem like a very good option.

The choice should be up to the person or their next of kin. It is always much easier to say what you would do than to have to make the choice for a loved one that can't.
