are all of these genetic mutations environmental? you have to think that in a gene pool as large as china's, there would be more probability for genetic anomalies...

Whenever I read about a population, large or small, "mutating" because of industry, I remember the time I passed through Landers. Back in the early '90's, I had coffee and donuts with my Grandfather at some grocery store in Landers, California. Out the front of the store, to the west across Old Woman Springs Road, some large mining operations could be seen cutting into the San Bernardino Mountains.
We engaged in small talk while eating our donuts and drinking our coffee, watching the locals come and go from the grocery store, the mining operations as a back drop. Then I got an extremely eerie feeling, chills literally ran up my spine as I had this realization, as I recognized a pattern with the people coming and going from the grocery store. Damn near everyone had some sort of physical deformity! Crippled arms, missing arms, wheel chairs, canes and noticeable limps!
We spit out what was in our mouths, dumped the rest of our order in the trash, and we hightailed it out of Landers. I don't know exactly what was poisoned (the food, the air, the water; all of it, or some combination therein), but something was obviously wrong.

God has nothing to do with this Man has created these people, over development, lack of Clean Water and Air, poor governmental concerns of the well being of their people. China may have population control, but they lack or are unable to keep up with the development of its’ infrastructure to ensure that events like these stop happening. 40% increase in 6 years, this is poor governmental regulations and oversight. They will continue to develop and kill themselves by all of the pollution. This is just the beginning of what will happen because of Due Care to its’ people.

Wow thats incredible. While no doubt this is a huge issue, 40% sounds unbelievable. Did they change/improve their researching techniques? Were a lot of these incidents going unreported before?
There is so much rural space and growth in China recently.

I guess if China wants to grow as quickly as possible and you have that many people, the health of a couple million doesn't matter that much.

Electronic waste is a huge problem in China, and when they burn it to get rid of it, it causes pollution. Pollution causes birth defects.
Recycle your electronics.

One could begin to make the case that humans (or at least certain humans, behavior, or systems) are a cancer to the planet.
WTF ya'll? Can we slow things down to a sustainable, non-self-destructive pace please?

China needs to the companies to start filtering the pollution they are putting into the air. This would be ideal but could never happen because China wants to grow as fast as possible which I predict that it will be their downfall.

what really pisses me off about the role of the US in this, is the recent mandated switch to digital tv. what the hell was our government thinking when they pushed this through with not a single mention of the amount of additional e-waste this will create, nor any publicity attached to how these outdated tvs will now be disposed of? More of our e-waste in the form of analog television sets will end up in Chinese villages, and our government has been extremely negligent in their disregard for this aspect of creating a law that enforces digital tv in this country. Disgusting. We are rabid consumers, on so many levels.

NIMBY is just a matter of denial. It is in our back yard and the reports are not widely circulated. The usual b.s. about 'hysterical greens' have been around for quite a while - just like 'media controlling lefties'.
Both are examples of 'strawman' argumentation where you control reports of another's viewpoint and what he means.
Fort Chipewan north of Fort mcMurray and the Syncrude upgrader is downstream for instance. The tribe has a protest website and has just barely got enough notice that the premier had to promise 'an environmental study' because of the embarrassing reports of them dying from cancer.
Even the Somalis have been oppressed by toxic dumping where there is no authority to stop it. There are groups agitating for concerns that never have hit the Trance Media ( MSM ) and never will. Here's one

What a horrifying discovery. With the new mandate of digital cable conversion this February, so many people are looking at it as a excuse to get a new TV. Where are the old TV's going- directly to China to be dismantled? Shame on the US for not enforcing laws that make us responsible for our e-waste and shame on China for not properly taking care of the people that ARE going to be affected by it. Social consciousness??
On another note, what do we all have to possibly look to as we get older as much as we are surrounded by our own electronics? They are not exposed, but should we question their toxicity? I would really begin to question the one piece that rests against my head for a couple hours a day: the cell phone.

It may be nice to be able to buy $2 pairs of shoes but its all made with the cheapest inputs and the loosest environment laws. Technically if China was not so corrupted and "traditional" they should sue every developed nation for exploiting their people and land. But don't worry, the sickle will join with the eagle to fight the rat in 2012.

Its a shame for China comparing all the resources that were pummped into the construction of the "wonderful" bird nest stadium & the surrounding facilities & the spectacular displays during the 2008 Beijin Olympics they are unable to care for medical requirements of their citizens poor leaders & what a shame

It's interesting that people say "I hope this doesn't happen in the U.S." when past corporations have dumped a lot of toxic material or created toxic waste facilities near neighborhoods and people have been affected by them already.
As like the poor in China have to do this for jobs, low income in the US live very near hazardous waste facilities.

Civilization has created its own worst enemy.
That enemy is man himself.
We constantly dump on the land that feeds us.
Eventually if all of this trend continues the Earth will not be fit for habitation.
Then it will be "End Game" or "The End of Days".
This may be sooner than we think....

The US is causing this, and you think keeping "Chinese" in China is the solution? Ignorant racist fuck.
This Earth is a Spaceship, everything on it stays on it. There's no place to hide, so you have to deal with your consumerism in order to solve this problem.

AMERICA IS ONE OF THE LARGEST IMPORTERS OF ELECTRONIC WASTE THAT GO TO CHINA.
There, they burn it to get rid of it, causing POLLUTION.
I'm not saying the whole blame goes to the U.S.A., because there are electronics there that have been thrown out by the rest of the world. - 3 years ago

That's silly...although obviously integrating your society with a society that has a much lower standard of living for most will bring down the median standard of living in your society.

That photo shows what is commonly known as a parasitic twin (also known as an asymmetrical or unequal conjoined twin, and a "fetus in fetu") who stopped developing and was absorbed and integrated into its twin's body. Click on the link, and see also:

It has nothing to do with God, it is a natural phenomenon, something that sometimes happens with all animals, an accident of nature (nature is not perfect). This girl was operated on, her sister's limbs and other parts have been surgically removed, she will have a perfectly normal life.

If you look closer, its not a breast, but the other twins head and leg. All eggs split after fertilization but some don't split completely and one envelops the other causing fetus in fetu. The second twin is basically a twin tick and grows much slower than the other, healthy child. Pointing the blame at someone you don't understand will do no good. All things are under God's control and within His understanding. He, however, doesn't have to answer to us for the things He does or allows. We are not God's council and He doesn't have to tell us the 'why's of everything He does. First, its none of our business why this happened to her and second, He is God and He alone is God. The reason behind her birth and purpose for living is between her and God, not the rest of the world. The only thing we should worry about is treating her like the human she still is.

Rapid industrial growth in China, combined with a continual stream of electronic waste coming from the western world is causing extreme pollution in parts of China. Have a look at this pod.
