About time someone capped their pay...oh, boohoo they won't be able to afford 3 or 4 luxury vehicles or vacation homes...I don't feel for them, sorry.

Obama is doing something that we know McCain or any republican would certainly not do. He is holding these bastards accountable. In fact he taking it pretty easy on these guys with capping their salaries at $400,000. Keep in mind that these CEOs still have access to their stocks and other non-income funds and who knows what holdings they have over-seas. But CEOs are crafty bastards and most of them will undoubtedly find loopholes and end-runs around President Obama's stipulation. Just like how most CEOs invest in top notch accountants to keep from paying their fair share of taxes. GO OBAMA!

Yeah, for real. I think a lot of the indignance that people have over the oh-so-unfair upper-eschelons of tax rates that "punish success" stems from ignorance of how things work at those levels. I suspect people just sort of mentally transpose themselves in the place of these people and adjust the numbers accordingly, but the filthy rich don't exactly keep their millions in the form of cash in a savings account, and I don't see that point being brought up NEARLY enough.

seems like the government is trying to control a little too much

So, do you think that the government should dole out blank bonus checks to bank executives with no oversight and no stipulations? That's pretty retarded.

So what do you suggest would strike the proper balance between bailouts that result in enormous bonuses and money spent in strip clubs and bailouts with the regulations Obama has enacted so far?

On one hand, govt intervention in how a company pays its employees disgusts me - on the other hand, these firms should have expected this sort of thing to happen when they went begging to the govt.

He needs to go further and demand repayment of previously accepted raises, bonuses, and stock options based on performance that clearly was being misstated. Now that would be justice.

This insures that any company that takes Bailout money can not hire the best and brightest they will be just like the goverment and schools and be stuck with the second and third level talent. The only thing sadder than what Obama and the other Marxist in our goverment are doing is the blind support they recieve here and around the country I suppose the insepent anti capitalism and anti amercan tone of our edjucation professionals is to blame.

What BS.
If you actually bothered to learn, you would had heard that long term deferred enhanced pay was still possible. What this does is to add an incentive for the executive to create LONG TERM, SUSTAINED growth.
As far as not being able to hire the best, other countries don't have huge pay differences between their employees and executives AND many of these foreign companies have been some of the BEST RAN companies in the world.

The best CEO's? The CEO's of companies that need a bailout because they've been poorly ran?

Best and brightest? Are you referring to the idiots who drove companies into the ground, made false reports to their shareholders, and then came to ask congress for our tax money to fix their own mess? THOSE best and brightest?
