Revolt brews in counties

Counties in California say they've had enough – and they aren't going to take it anymore.

In what amounts to a Boston Tea Party-style revolt against the state Capitol, they're threatening to withhold money.

Los Angeles is considering such an option. And Colusa County supervisors said they authorized payment delays for February.

"We didn't vote on it, because I don't think anybody wants to go to jail," Colusa County Supervisor Kim Vann said.

Closer to home, Sacramento County is planning to file a lawsuit this week against the state and Controller John Chiang for withholding millions of dollars – much of it for social service programs.

"The Legislature authorized those expenditures, and (the controller) has decided to withhold it," said Susan Peters, chairwoman of the Sacramento County Board of Supervisors. "I believe it's possible other counties will be joining in the action."

    • Its about time US citizens got off their A$$, & gave some kind of signal of being tired of the status Quo BS. The BS that has sunk us so deep into debt, our grand kids, grandchildren will be paying it off.

When will the topic of Jailing Bankers ever come up??? Thats what I'd love to see. Those SOB's that put us here... including politicians! as far UP the chain as it goes..

    • I'm getting pissed off at people who have no concept of how California works shitting on our problems.

First off, the reason it takes a million years to get anything done with our budget is that Republicans amended our constitution in the 70's so that we could only pass our budget with a 2/3's majority. This means that even with a significant democratic majority our state has to haggle, concede ground and follow whatever criminal demands Republicans ask for (giving a tax break to Yacht owners during our budget crisis is a good example) to get anything done in our state.

We've also been fucked by Enron and NO ONE has done ANYTHING about it. We've had to fuck ourselves sideways dealing with that crisis and as far as the Fed under Bush was concerned clever criminals are above the law and their victims get to suck it up.

And then the economic crisis comes and our state goes from being in a manageable but messed up state to being completely clusterfucked where we have to decide between actually funding education or breaking even with our deficit.

So fuck anyone who says like "it's their fault" for something that is very obviously NOT our fault. Tell you what? If you think it's our fault, grow your own damn food.

Total double standard too, no one else criticizes all of the other failing states like they do California.

California needs to stop state funding for things like.. paying for illegals to see Doctors, go to school, paying their rent, their food... when it comes to supporting illegals, California is right at the top of the list. If the Illegals want to be here, they should do it legally like any other legal immigrant, & if they don't, they should get NOOOoo taxpayer money. Your state funds things the majority of other states wouldn't think of using tax dollars for.

PS.. I know other states use taxpayer dollars for funding Illegals.. IMO.. all of them should stop.

No, that's mostly due to the subprime mortgage crisis and the stock market crash. If you don't want to support illegals, good luck getting produce at your store for prices you can actually afford.

    • California is so pathetically run it is scary. All this state does is argue over every initiative. The Republicans argue with the Democrats and the Democrats argue with the Republicans. It is a perfect example of why the founding fathers of the U.S. never wanted a two party system. The needs of the people get ignored and the greed of the many get fed.

    • California's fault for spending out of their ass. There are many other states that are in a similar position, but not as deep in as California, so yeah, things may look bad, but the economy will probably pick up again before things get critical. Unfortunately for California, that date isn't going to come soon enough.

    • Pointless drivel and posturing. These county governments are powerless against the state government. That is what the lady meant when she said no one wants to go to jail. I am not saying California is not a poorly run state, but this talk of revolution is just ridiculous and inflammatory.

    • We will find out who is benefitting from wars and revolutions in our world...

We realize that there are criminals in our world who don't get caught and have successfully manipulated the world in their favor.

We can educate everyone on the dangers we are facing in this world and live together in harmony.

I want world peace just as much as the next person and we will find a way so that everyone can be held accountable for their actions, in other words a checks and balances for each person on the face of the earth and we will not let the control of such fall under any elected representatives.
