Bombs, choppers during military exercises in New Orleans

escarondito
NEW ORLEANS – Residents in and around New Orleans have been hearing the sounds of low-flying helicopters and what sounds like bomb blasts over the past few nights, but the sounds are part of a training exercise for some of America's elite military troops.
Video: Watch the Story

At one Lakefront home, Gigi Burk normally hears her son, 6-year-old Beau, practicing the piano, but last night she heard something much different at around 10 p.m.

“I said, oh my God! They're bombs. That's what I thought it was, somebody dropping bombs,” Burk said.

Read and Discuss.....

Video is personal footage of the helicopters

    • Well since New Orleans was already placed under Martial Law once, it is no surprise that they would be a little skittish about these sorts of things. You'd think with such an operation the residents would have been better informed, instead of a week prior. A notice on the news the day of stating "tonight the city is going to sound like its under attack by military helicopters - but don't be alarmed its just a drill" would have only taken a few seconds.

But honestly, why are they training in actual American cities? Couldn't the military construct "dummy" cities to carry out these types of exercises?

    • The U.S. military has to be be prepared when it wages war against her own civilians, the same civilians that it fights for the illusion of freedom.

    • Wow... that's probably scare the shit out of me!

Years ago I was chilling way up in a meadow in the mountains enjoying some mushrooms when about 3 black hawks came cruising overhead. It really was very intrusive and totally ruined the rest of my trip. I was so scared they were going to land and confront us. Luckily they just kept going....

    • A quote from the article says:
"Since U.S. Special Operations Command hasn't done a similar training here since 2000, it has caught many people by surprise...The training will go on every night through the end of this week."
As our military has 761 installations circling the globe, and there isn't a place in U.S. a stone's throw from a military base, it's only unusual people taking notice of such maneuvers makes the news.
Although the U.S. population has generally been spared from the direct application of military power (if you're fortunate enough not to be Native American) it has happened periodically before in U.S. history from Washington's administration (Shay's Rebellion), to date. It's generally used during wars and periods of civil unrest (WWI; WWII; the Depression.) In 1932 when thousands of protesting veterans in Washington D.C.were attacked by U.S. army units under Gen. Douglas MacArthur.
However, given the fact we are usually at war and often undergoing periods of civil unrest, making any assumption on the completely benign nature of the U.S. military or of your own total safety in that regard is based on historical ignorance, or wishful thinking.
Since our military has grown to such gargantuan world-wide proportions far outstripping any other rival nations combined in terms of cost (Including Russia and China, although China has more soldiers under arms) the chances of abuse here and abroad have grown exponentially.
Distance and dispersal is one good tactic for protection, but given the reach of the U.S. Military, unless you live in remote cave protected by friendly tribesmen, I say work very hard to insure a good and sane U.S. government.
      Good luck.

    • bluntly speaking, if you don't see the writing on the wall at this point, if you sitll think all those NWO, martial law, conspiracy theorists are still just theorists, if your not noticing the slight little movements towards a police state, you are so far in the illusion that has become america that you might just willingly walk into a FEMA camp and be proud of it. I see very little hope for those types of people.

If you are a person who realizes this is unnatural, or atleast thinks that there is a coming storm that you realize isn't or will not be broadcast ontu the main airwaves, you are in a quickly growing minority of this population. I only advise you of two things.

      1. educate yourself - use the internet as it is your best tool for finding information. you will not find information you are not deemed to know on the tv, radio, or newspapers. you will find alot of bullshit on the net. you will find some conspiracies that are impossible to fathom, and some are simply not based on enough facts to be considered true and relevant. but continue reading because you will find nuggets of truth in most if not everything you read. And think critically about what your reading. don't merely skim through and consider yourself informed. Do your won reasearch and make sure you connect strings yourself in order to be able to prove validity

which bring me to 2. walk out your door, and walk to the next down the street and talk to your neighbors- they are going through the same issues you are right now. Talk to them about what is going on and what you know the next steps to be. if obama's election taught us anything is that grassroots activism has a proper place in our generation , you just must realize that the newest way of moving is through the internet and social networking. When they bust down your door ready to handcuff you and send to on a train to a FEMA camp let us not be known as the people who were sitting on them ready and waiting.
