everyone is ostracized or feels insecure or has pressures in high school...and if you're not, then you may be doing the ostracizing in order to stay on top. People do the meanest things during those 4 years!

im sure its hard for a lot of people everywhere to be openly gay. Society sadly frowns upon homosexuality, which is not right. Especially in school where your peers judge you very harshly.

What is interesting to me is that when I was in high school the few kids that were openly gay weren't bashed on. At least not that I could see. A couple of the lesbians were even really popular.
However. I had a couple friends who were terrified of coming out, but not because of the ridicule from their peers but from their own family.
It's really sad to see that our society isn't able to even tolerate homosexuality let alone accept it.

I have indeed seen a person is gay{at school}, and is proud of it, and there plenty of people who are afraid to admit it, because of bullying, such hate and ignorance is always at specific public schools....

Being gay in school is dangerous in most schools. Add in some religion, just pick one, and you can double the danger.

That a gay student would not feel safe at school should be a surprise to no one. The hate and ignorance spread by christianity alone would give any reasonable person justifiable fear.

Don't feel like your being targeted, nobody's mentioned your name. Most people here are just expressing that its wrong to not like a group of people because of their sexual orientation...
Just keep in mind that there's a lot of other ways to hurt people than just shooting them or beating them up. Psychological harrasment in the form of verbal bullying, social ostracism, and just the fact that nobody likes you takes its toll on someone's ego...
And BTW, what offends you about gay people?

why dont you like gays? Have u been approached? Have your parents told you that being gay is wrong?..I really want to know what u think about that..because thats like me saying i dont like straight people at all..

no, you are not a racist, but you are homophobic.
Many homophobic people are actually gay or have gay tendencies - it is almost always a self-hatred that is at th bottom of homophobia.
the fact that you dislike an entire class of people says much more about you than it does gay people. You are ignorant, frightened, and backward. You and your mother have my sympathy.

Even the ones you have never met? On what grounds? Just because you don't want to cause them physical harm, it doesn't make it OK to dislike every gay person. It is irrational to do so. Gay people aren't all alike. The only thing common to them all is that they are attracted people of the same gender as them. If that is the reason you dislike them, one can arrive at the logical conclusion that you find them immoral. Why? Is it because you are religious? You might want to rethink your position. Senseless hatred doesn't do anybody any good.

why aren't schools safe?
well, lots of reasons.
The main one being a lack of funding.
A lot of schools don't have the resources to stop violence.
Another big reason are the parents. A lot of parents don't have the resources to give their kids the attention they need. Parents also pass violent behavior on to their kids. - 3 years ago

.. some parents just can't believe their children are harming others, and refuse to acknowledge it even once they are confronted by the school or other parents.

often it is just a matter of luck and the people around you.
sometimes it is not safe to be ugly, fat, smart, stupid, or pretty. there is some ugly shit about growing up, that is for sure.

I agree with what everyone has said thus far, but I think saying racists are the same people who hate gays is somewhat general. To me, most deeply religious people tend to have their reasons for anti-homosexual views that, like stacey said, can be traced back to their parents usually. Hatred is always a product of your environment; it's learned, it's not something you're born with like who you are attracted to.

If someone loves someone of the same sex and is bold enough to live amongst people who will condemn them... so be it.
We should not condemn people for being gay, we should only understand that if someone chooses to be gay that they will not be able to pass on their genes with each other, that's all... they are not hurting anyone else by being gay.

While I disagree with the part where you say "chooses to be gay" I have to agree with pretty much everything else you said there Solar_Wind. When will we truly have tolerance for those who do not fit society's "cookie cutter" mold of a human being?

No, but people do not choose who they are attracted to. I can't stop myself, for example, from getting turned on if some pornstar started rubbing herself all over me...
Attraction isn't a choice. You can choose to repress your feelings or not express them publicly, but you would still feel attraction.

This video kind of shows how attraction works. For example, the character Josephus does not want to be found for a eunuch, but he will have no choice but get turned on....
He had no control over what his body wanted to do.... no matter how much he wanted to :D
Our good friend Josephus here was unable to excercise his free will here to stop himself from being attracted to her. Because attraction isn't a choice...

i think my schools pretty good with it. I know theres at least 3/4 openly gay boys and a few girls in the higher years of 6th form, but i still know people too scared to come out. Its not as bad as it used to be, and most of the bullying is just from people who want to be bullys, not just because they think being gay is wrong.
It definatly needs to be understood more. Its not a choice and we are exactly the same as straight people (you know what i mean) - 3 years ago

I don't really understand gay-bashing. But I guess the same people that gay-bash are also racist, etc.
They all fit into their own stereotype of ignorant racist...
I don't understand what the big deal is. So they're gay... doesn't mean you have to hang out with them. But you don't prove anything by terrorizing them...

This is a very touchy subject simply because our world is so brainwashed about the fact that being gay is a worst thing you can ever be..And another problem is close minded parents who teach their children (mainly boys) that being gay is not manly..And whats sooo crazy is that those that lash out at openly gay people are mad because we (yes im a lesbian) are comfortable with ourselves..Ive never had anyone lash out at me because im a female (yes that plays a part)..its the male world that needs the help and understanding..
