Police opened fire on a demonstration by the opposition in this African island nation's capital. Some reports suggest as many as 30 people have been killed.

The protests are against the removal of Antananarivo Mayor Andry Rajoelina, who is in a power struggle with President Marc Ravalomanana. The mayor accuses the president of misspending public money and being a dictator.

    • Governments will always have guns. Will you? When things get so bad, that the police shoot at you what else is there to do? Pick up your gun and enter the street, those who protect a system that abuses it's people support it. Destroy them I say and take back what is yours.

    • Mayor Who Tried to Supplant Madagascar’s President Is Fired.

      By BARRY BEARAK
      Published: February 4, 2009

ANTANANARIVO, Madagascar — This nation’s government fired the mayor of this capital city on Tuesday, something of a reprisal after the mayor announced over the weekend that he was taking over the government.
This is power politics, Madagascar-style, a showdown between President Marc Ravalomanana and Mayor Andry Rajoelina, who in recent weeks has denounced the president as a dictator, a scoundrel and a thief. Political violence has left about 100 people dead. Buildings have been burned and gutted.

    • 30 People killed over a clash of Personalities..So what's the big deal. The People love this kid. So they marched in support of Him. It's not like they were attempting to overrun the Government. Shit. That could happen, the President must be very paraniod. He could win a popular vote in the next five years when He's of legal age. It's terrible. Now He has momentum building for Him. The Government will attempt to neutralize Him as best as they can. Could be looking at civil unrest there and possibly a small scale civil war. FREEDOM!!
