Jeremy Lusk: 1984-2009

Jeremy Lusk, freestyle motocross star, has died from head injuries suffered during a crash at a competition in San Jose, Costa Rica. He was 24.

Nicknamed "Pitbull" because of his tenacity on a motorcycle, Lusk crashed after failing to fully rotate a back-flip variation while flying over a 100-foot jump.

    • The crazy motorcycle boys have to be what they are... I would never and can't do what they do, but I have to admit I love watching them. Their virtuosity is astounding. Obviously, he died doing what he loved. Not such a bad way to go...

    • He did what he wanted, he died doing what he loved.
      Maybe he didn't want to die doing THAT particular trick, but he knew going into it that he could die.

      Its not negative or positive, it just IS.

      My condolences go out to his family, his GF, and his friends.

      Live your life to the fullest, and do what you love.

    • Anyone leaving negative or inappropriate comments about this mans death is truly sick and should be deeply ashamed! For us in the motorcycle community Jeremy and the rest of these guys are heroes. There are some of us who don’t fit the mainstream “stick and ball” sports profile. This tragedy would be like the death of Colby Bryant to a basketball fan or the death of Mark McGuire to a baseball fan. I grew up on motorcycle racing and it’s a great sport! Here is the bottom line; this is someone’s brother, someone’s son, someone’s husband and a fellow human being! You laugh and make jokes saying things like “who cares! People die every day in Iraq” I cannot even fathom the level of your ignorance and total disregard for human life….. Get off your high horse! Start being a human again.

      Eating meat and dairy pollutes the environment. Are you vegan?
      Driving a car pollutes the environment. Do you ride a bike?
      I am sure that flying football and basketball and soccer teams around jets doesn't pollute the environment.
      I used to race Motocross. I used about 3 gallons of gas a day--at the most. Also, most of the bikes are 4-strokes now anyways, so they pollute about as much as a streetbike, which is not very much.

      Motocross is a great sport. It is a great community of people who share a very strong common bond. Life is short, and I can tell you personally that racing motocross has to be one of the most amazing experiences. Sure, not everyone can ride around on 8,000 dollar bikes for a living, let alone for fun, but Motocross racers are far from extravagant. Hate on wall street capitalists, not athletes.

      I agree, there are bigger issues, but that doesn't mean that Lusk's death was any less tragic.

      I don't own a car, I've never owned a car, I'll never own a car. I take the bus/metro/bike/ parkour.

      Wow, those stadiums don't look destructive at all. Those sponsorships really bring a lot of awareness to climate change and progressive politics.

      Please, give me a break. You want a good community, go to a rock climbing gym. What this dude died for is... What the fuck did he die for? Tell me please. You could argue that Motocross is a sport like Nascar, or even golf. And in the end, fuck organized sport as well. Go learn martial arts or something.
