NY Post Comic Strip implies Racism Comparing Obama to a Chimpanze

Image

Since Obama is the last person to write a Stimulus Bill, this comic is directly implying that our new president is a Chimpanzee.

uuuuuuhhhhhhhh, I shall remind readers that in the racist hay days African-Americans were compared to monkeys on a regular basis.

The publishing of this comic is an absurd breach on the Civil Rights and is immoral.

And why did they have to make the officers white? Seriously, way to put us back 50 years!!

    • am i surprised, no not really

The United States of America is one of the most internally ethnically prejudices countries on the planet. we are also one of the most culturally diverse. the election of the first black president will show exactly how prejudices this country can be.
civil rights movement made great progress for the advancement of social minorities. during these time the white majority fought tooth and nail to not recognize people of color as equals.

the first black students to go to a desegregated school where met with both physical and verbal assaults. in many cases black students had to be protected by police just to get to school.

Jacky Robinson the first black baseball player was met with threats from players and fans.

the first black anything has always been met with an upraising of white repressions.

this is only the tip of the iceberg, unlike previous generation that move to action to make necessary changes, it is this generation that will have to continue to take necessary action but also have the long uncomfortable conversation about the prejudices in this country.

No it is not an easy conversation but it is vital to moving forward.

we are going to have to talk about: the genocide of the Native American people, The enslavement and trade a Africans, Jim crow laws, Japanese internment, Segregation, the economic divide between ethnic groups, police brutality of minorities, the education system in its treatment of students of color.

and if you cant see this as the problem (your probably a white male) then the conversation needs to be even more in depth.

First of all its Jackie Robinson, son. Second, start a conversation don't say the sound bytes and wait for CNN, they don't respond well to normal people. Third, I am a white male and I want to know when the government will end awarding government procurements in favor of minority owned business, where know many of those minorities are majorities.

    • When I first heard of this add and even the saw it my thought was dam even a chimp cant do it.
I dont want to forget history. I also dont want to walk on eggshells the rest of my life in this perhaps we are cowards. I grew up hearing the "N " word in jokes etc. Now the only time I hear it is from Black music and certain black groups. I dont want my kids growing up knowing this word, they can learn of it in history class.
This is my thought. There are two kinds of people who saw and reacted to this. First is the person like me who only heard about it and laughed whether the bill was intended to reflect congress or obama, I saw the comic saying dam even a chimp/chump cant do this right(is anyone truly happy with it). Second is the person who see's this as rascim only, thet cant get past the past.Dont forget the past , but dont relive it either.
One final thing , Im not mad or sad or angry that we have a black president rather I am proud of this country . If any thing I am upset that he isnt a republican. I am scared the way our democratic politicians are taking this country. Arent all of you?
If I go back far enough in my family tree I learn that my ancestors were indentured servants for 7 plus years sometimes 49 years that was a lifetime for many
.We all have history that was less than optimal.
Lastly , i am a laborer ,there will be errors in this blog, I am not perfect, But I still have an opinion Thanks and lets all keep talking about this.

    • As a black person, I was very offended by this comic. But then I began to wonder, since the comic is so glaringly offensive, perhaps the comic is not anti-Obama and racist at all. Perhaps it is instead intended to point a satirical finger at Anti-Obama racists.

I wonder if the policemen are meant to represent the idea that some of the opposition to Obama's stimulus bill might be coming from people who simply don't like have a black president, or believe that Obama won the election in part because he is black.

I think that black people are thinking anyone who doesn't agree with or vote for Obama is racist and that in of itself is racist. I am white and my husband is black, which doesn't even matter, however neither of us voted for Obama because we are conservative politically and religious Catholics who don't agree with his Democratic liberal ideas, having nothing to do with racism. Furthermore according to Darwinism we all came from monkeys anyway. I think the offense of this ad should lie in the shooting not the object being shot. I respectfully disagree with your point of view but I think black people are also guilty of racism.

I wonder why a chimp cant be a chimp. Maybe the chimp should feel Like he is the target. This is not a hate response, but rather a different view.See it for what it is. I hate to say it but if the policeman was black, the angry groups would have a problem with that as well. Everyone is talking about this comic maybe not as it was intened, but there is dialogue. If we cant talk about race in a positive way then maybe we are cowards.
I ask my self often if I am a rascist. I belive I am to certain groups or stereotypes, wheter I feel threaten or total dissapproval but it isnt on the whole. I think alot of people feel this way, people of all colors.I dont like obama . I dont like him becuasehe is a democrat and I am a republican/Independant.

    • These comics are indeed racist because its how things of America works, even though, yes, Bush was being made of and the he was also playing the monkey, but Bush was evil, and not every presdient gets made of a monkey.....although, I think no intentions should be taken, because its a cartoon and it is a concept of human minds(these days...) to spot every detail of something they suspect that is racist and declare its racist and simultamously attack it.....

      what a douche

why is it that everyone who disagrees with me just acts like a total dick?

even the douches who agree with me?

      wtf?

anyways most conservative comics do tend to be stupid, offensive, and unfunny. but i didn't find the original comic one bit racist

      woah woah woah

careful now, you might hurt my feelings

at any rate, i think the fact that so many people found this comic racist is a sad sign of the times. we quite obviously still live in a very racist world. (not that i was ever denying that we did, but a girl can dream).
