True to form I'll be checking out the documentaries, in particular Nanette Burnstein's American Teen which won Best Feature Doc at Sundance and Franny Armstrong's The Age of Stupid which features a futuristic Pete Postlethwaite commenting on the stupidity of our current generation's reaction to climate change.
Oh and make sure you tune in to Current (Sky 183, Virgin 155) this Sunday evening March 8th to watch our International Women's Day special featuring an interview with Birds Eye View director Rachel Millward.

I went to a screening of "Salome" at the NFT yesterday - the screen temptress in question was Alla Nazimova whose wickedly innocent (oxymoron, but apt!) heroine gets spurned by prophet Jokanaan and sulking, demands he be killed. She persuades King Herod to have the deadely deed done by dancing for him, a treat the drooling Herod can't pass up.
The scene where Salome dances for her wicked uncle to get what she wants was brilliant. For a film made in 1923 the provocative movements and the barely-there costumes came across as even more risque!
But all in all, I think the celluloid femme fatale was upstaged by the foxy musician Bishi who, peforming live in the auditorium, wrote the original soundtrack for this screening, and hit just the right dramatic and exotic notes for this camp pantomime interpretation of the biblical tale. For more info on Bishi check out the link ...
