Cardinal GIovanni Battista Re has spoken in defense of the excommunication of a Brazilian mother and doctors who helped a nine-year-old have an abortion. The girl conceived twins after being raped by her stepfather. Battista said the twins 'had the right to live' but the excommunication does not apply to the girl because of her age.

    • People automatically excommunicate themselves by the very act of being involved with an abortion. Leaders of the Church do not have to make that pronouncement for it to be so. The child's rapist has also certainly excommunicated himself by his vile actions.

Everyone knows that raping a child is evil and wrong, including the Church (I am not being facetious here - less than 3% of priests have been accused of sexual abuse - any amount is awful, but the vast majority of priests are normal, good men. I know many good priests.). However, apparently half of the developed world seems to think that abortion is not evil and wrong, but right and good. This is why the Church is emphasizing this. People have it backwards.

Say, would Jesus be proud that these twins he created were not allowed to live?
