The government of U.S. President Barack Obama had protested at these and other seemingly random Israeli restrictions, which held up deliveries of certain types of noodles, fruit jams and other foodstuffs to 1.5 million Palestinians in the enclave.
In one case, Israel blocked for weeks a World Food Programme shipment of chickpeas, used to make the Palestinian food staple hummus, according to the UN agency.
Western diplomats, speaking on condition of anonymity, said Olmert's office informed Washington and Brussels that all types of food would be allowed into the Gaza Strip.

why is it isreals sole responsibility? does egypt not share a border with gaza aswell? they too want nothing to do with these people who are fellow arabs. hamas takes the food and sells it on the black market to fund thier terrorism and distributes a small amount to the people so they look like heros and isreal are the evil oppressers. why do the smuggling tunnels only get used for weapons and not food if they are truly being starved out. we are only getting the info that certain special interests want us to have. think people use your ability to reason or you to are as intilectualy enslaved as the palastinians.

It's refreshing to see U.S. foreign policy acknowledging the Humanitarian disaster in Gaza that Israel was continuing to push on the population. Denying basic humanitarian aid such as food to an occupied people by an occupying force is against International law.
