There are always two sides to a story but more and more we are only hearing the one side. I just think its awful for people to have to live like they do. The nuclear waste should be investigated and resolved ASAP. With all the move to "green" energy talk about nuclear power plants being commissioned, I fear this problem will grow.
I also cringe when I hear about Egypt and other countries kililng and dumpling pigs because of swine flu scare when there is no flu risk found and we have millions of starving peoples that I would hazard a guess would love a chance to eat that meat (No sure of the local Somali culture). Of course I wouldn't advocate giving anyone anything if there was one hint that it could be contaminated. Its just such a waste when a child dies every 10 seconds from starvation.

Just one more thought from this History buff back during WW2 we had 2 nations willing to take us on we stayed and fought till the last man willing to pick up a weapon and fight was gone and in one generation later those two Nations became Democracy's and now are some of our best Allies and will alwayse will be....Bob Nordberg ....PS: So you are maybe wondering where I am going with all this. Well here it is ....The USA is slow to Anger and that is good but when their is nothing left to do but fight back and negotations dont work like with Iran now!! and you do get in a fight ...stay till it is done take out all willing to fight back ....no more "Measured Responces" or you will have to go back over and over!!

Say what you will about our previous President when it came to kicking the ass of any one willing to take the United States on no one in recenty has done it better. and Just a final thought here I was watching Commidy Central yesterday when the host was making fun of how we were able to take out 3 bad guys at the same instant and then he took out a American Flag ...Started to blow on it saying thiese colures don't run Mother F^%$#*& and all I could think of oh yes we did and it was the last time we were in that neck of the woods with Bill Clinton

Every one knows the leader of the free world is the US or at least was I think you will find that the UN ultmatly will do nothing that is a usless body....the reason we have the problems with the Pirates is because the last time we tried to help them out with free food and stuff from the USA the warlards took all of it and made a busness of giving it to just the friends of the warlards and let the others starve to death......so what did we do we went in with a force to small to weak to do a proper job "thats what Liberals do they want to do give what is known as a measured responce" then as you rember when we needed a tank or 2 we had to borrow one from the UN turky I belive it was, any way the next mistake we made was pulling out with our tail between our leggs...and this was our biggest mistake that tolod every other bully throughout the world that if you drag a few dead us servicemen through the street and get CNN to cover it Americans no longer have the Stomach for a fight and you could pretty kick USA's butt arround any time you like!! on the other hand if we stayed in Sommiala and took on the warlards their gave the food to the starving and yes shot dead all those willing to pick up a gun and kill Americans who were just their to feed the Starving the Terrorest of 911 would be expecting lots more than a Measured Responce!! and Bush gave the Bad guys a diffrent kind of responce "SHOCK and AWW" with the leaders of any nation willing to take US on no longer in power!!!

this would be far more interesting to watch if mercenaries were going after them instead of soldiers . how much political BS will have to be waded through before the gov't manages to do anything effective .

Their country is poor. They fight between themselves. they are violent and have no respect for human life. They kill their own countrymen. They collect millions in ransome - paid by insurance companies. They don't share with their countrymen. They have organized gangs, well equipped with enough gear to follow, locate and hijack these huge ships, passing waaaay outside their territorial waters. All excuses and explanations are bullshit. They are thugs, murderers, criminals. They are no Robin Hoods. Anyone feeling pity for them is a feebleminded idiot - I am sorry. Go over there to help them, and chances are, you will wind up dangling off a tree, shot with an AK or bleeding off a sharp blade. Their life is violent and primitive. It just is. Not everyone can live in a comfort of an air conditioner. There is no reason to change it - they themselves don't want to change it. They have gotten away unpunished for way to long - and up comes an American ship - and that's where the story ends. To give credit - Chinese had also kicked their ass recently - and it looks like now this piracy will be dealt with most severely! GOOD.

"One of the pirate leaders, Sugule Ali, said their motive was “to stop illegal fishing and dumping in our waters … We don’t consider ourselves sea bandits. We consider sea bandits [to be] those who illegally fish and dump in our seas and dump waste in our seas and carry weapons in our seas.”
Don't fall for this crap they are nothing more than thieves. They are stealing millions and endangering many innocent lives in the process. Besides, If it is true (and I am not saying that it is not) that European countries are dumping and fishing off the Somali cost then the jokes on them. Personally, I would not want to eat any glow in the dark three eyed fish.

They are so poor they can afford weapons, ammo, boats and fuel. They are pirates because they are getting millions in ransom. It sucks for them that they are being oppressed by a ruthless goverment fighting Islamic extremists and living in a permanent drought zone. That all said pirates are pirates and the way to end piracy is what happened today: They all died. When the results of piracy are certain death or imprisonment they will go find someone else to prey on. How is it the worlds fault that their own goverment is screwing them over. That was the same justification given for Iraq when all the other excuses were exposed and see where that got everyone. Who amongst us is going to be the judge of what governments need to be overthrown and which ones not? Isn't that the behavior that the world has condemned America for?

Somalia is a broken down country with no future & no hope. Those pirates, are all crooks & are high on there local drug they call kat or somethin. So i don't fell sorry for them. Last time the U.S tryed to help somalia they choose a drug dealing warloard over a democratic gov, & 18 U.S soliders lost there lives. Some of there bodies were draged through the street. People want us to fell sorry for them, hell no.

The pirates are the poorist of poor that populate our planet. Until you yourselves experience the deaths of your children from having no food to feed them, shut the fuck up and try to imagine that scene in your head. If we don't want these people doing what they are doing to survive then feed them and give the tools they need to survive. When the right wing made such a big deal about the Blackhawk down thing during the Clinton administration then why didn't they have a plan for taking out these warlords and turning this population in the right direction. Because greed is good for the pigs that run our country and world. whenever an oppressed population comes up with a unique idea such as becoming a pirate nation I applaud their effort cause it sticks a stick in the eye of our overlords the true warloads of the world.

THEN THEY SHOULD TURN THEIR ANGER ON THEIR OWN LEADERSHIP. THE WORLD HAS TRIED TO HELP THEM SEVERAL TIMES AND THEY JUST SUPORTED THE WORST OF THEIR SOCIETY. The Somolies have repeatedly biten the hand that tried to help. They should thow out the warlords and pace a government that would look out for the people instead of Saddam like lifestyles. If we as a nation were smart we would force the drug lords so far underground that they would not be able to see the light of day ever again. These men have no conceince and do not deserve the suport of any civilized person in the world. They are animals and no better treatment than they give do they deserve.

Keeping passage open on the high seas is a primary tenant of the United Sttates and geat britan. If you allow criminals to control the seas then you allow the comerce tto grind to a halt and the world will slip into a deeper recesion.

Just like terrorism and drugs, this war on piracy will be another pointless endeavor that will actually do harm in the long run. Those three things will always be around, and there is nothing anyone can do to stop it.

Watch today's news. That is the classic response to Piracy that has been effective since seafaring began. Immediate, deadly force. When it becomes apparent that the overwhelmingly likely outcome of piracy is violent death they will find something else to prey on.

They said this morning on CNN that the reason Somalia is #1 in Piracy is that they have no current government, nobody to enforce laws so that is why the piracy is rampant.

yeah, didnt i just watch a vanguard special on pirates?
i liked what the one guy was saying in the doc, he believes there will always be piracy, it can never end, as long as people are jobless, have families to feed and huge cargo ships keep moving valuable cargo across the open sea.

It's because the major news coverage on this subject is actually rather good. The fishing problems are quite well documented, and mentioned in most in depth reports on the subject. I assume people do what I did, which was load the page expecting something that has not previously been inthe news, find nothing, decide it's a waste of time and that the writer is an idiot, and leave.

I would normally not care about the Pirates, just because they are doing something wrong, yet, they really do this for a reason and because bad judgment and usage of Oil resources have kept these fisherman poor and without opportunities.
