    • Interesting post mik661, I'm a big fan of our founding fathers and love their writings of the day. Thomas Jefferson's birthday is today and was in my opinion a genius.

Monticello and Montpelier are a little over an hour from my house and I love visiting them. Montpelier had been purchased by the Dupont family and incorporated into a massive mansion. Bequeathed to the Government it is in the final stages of a total restoration as it was when Madison lived there.

Its the soft spoken quiet ones that you have to watch. They don't shout, strut or act macho, but they act seriously and in a decisive manner.

That being said about Obama, the Pirates will still be there because the people of that country are starving and they will continue to attack the boats of all countries, so the entire world needs to get together and do something about the pirates.

    • In 1786, Thomas Jefferson and John Adams went to negotiate with Tripoli's envoy to London, Ambassador Sidi Haji Abdrahaman or (Sidi Haji Abdul Rahman Adja). Upon inquiring "concerning the ground of the pretensions to make war upon nations who had done them no injury", the ambassador replied:

It was written in their Koran, that all nations which had not acknowledged the Prophet were sinners, whom it was the right and duty of the faithful to plunder and enslave; and that every muslim who was slain in this warfare was sure to go to paradise. He said, also, that the man who was the first to board a vessel had one slave over and above his share, and that when they sprang to the deck of an enemy's ship, every sailor held a dagger in each hand and a third in his mouth; which usually struck such terror into the foe that they cried out for quarter at once.

    • They can not be allowed to commit piracy for any reason at all. But these people ;are more than poor. You don't really have a clue. We in America think that the Mexicans in Mexico are poor, but these people consider the Mexicans rich.

Yes, don't let them do what they are doing, but the big industrial nations need to stop raking the fish out of their waters. They are so greedy and they don't need to steal from the poorest of the poor.

But I am glad that Obama is telling them that piracy is illegal and will be delt with appropriatelly. THomas Jefferson had a problem with pirates also.

    • This story is so great!
I am glad that the world again sees that we ain't gonna take no sh*t from nobody. I am so proud of our country! I did not think Obama had the guts; he surprised me. I did not vote for him but I surely hope this is the beginning 0f a new USA attitude.
Therwe are poor people all over this Earth! Only those with evil in their hearts decide to kill others and steal just because they are poor. The poor are everywhere and 99% of them are decent, good people.
These evil pirates are actually planning to retaliate. We should wipe out these pirates completely.

    • I learned that the reason some Somalians are resorting to these terrible crimimal acitvities is that the Japanese and other industrial nation fishing fleets are literally raking their shores of fish and they are starving. The fishermen can no longer feed their families.

I do not condone these crimes for any reason what so ever, but I am happy that I learned of the main cause.

We do need to stop them in any way necessary, and at the same time the industrial nations should stop raking the bottom of their shores and literally making them stave so the Japanese and others can have all the fish they want. The Japanese have enough food and so do we.
I am happy that the Captain is rescued.

    • My oldest teenager was astounded when she learned the extent of the Somali pirate actions and asked what we could do to end it. This is a perfect example of how to walk the walk. As cold and uncaring as it may sound the way to stop piracy of this nature is a swift, immediate military attack killing all pirates on sight with out regard to the possible death of a hostage. These people dont have death wishes once it becomes clear that the likely outcome of a piracy attempt is death they will find something else to do. This has been the effective answer to piracy since ancient times. While I understand the underlying desperation driving the people from
Somalia due to the extreme poverty that doesn't mean we need to tolerate it.
