Last Thursday, after the legislative session ended, Sanford left the governor's mansion, driving off in a black Suburban SUV. He did not take his security detail. He did not tell his lieutenant governor where he was going. He told his aides only that he needed to recharge his batteries. Don't call me, he told the staff, explaining that he planned to turn off his cellphone, I'll call you. As for his wife, First Lady Jenny Sanford left for their vacation home where she spent the Father's Day weekend with their four sons.

“He was writing something and wanted some space to get away from the kids,” Jenny Sanford told the Associated Press while vacationing with the couple’s four sons at their Sullivan’s Island beach house.

Now it turns out that Sanford was doing that old walk in the woods routine, hiking along the 2,175-mile Appalachian Trail. Or, anyway, that's what his staff says. "The governor was somewhat taken aback by all of the interest this trip has gotten," spokesman Joel Sawyer said, adding that the governor plans to return to work tomorrow.

    • So, he's either a liar or an ASSHOLE! We love the outdoors here in South Carolina. We love our kids, too. I'm going to assume that he's telling the truth for the sake of my argument. What kind of a "father" goes hiking and camping on Father's Day and sends his wife and four strapping young boys to the beach?? Mark Sanford puts his own wants and needs before his family. How does that line-up with his "conservative" ideals and that base?? Where is the conservative outrage?? The truth is, he got is ass handed to him last week by our State Supreme Court and State Legislature. He got the smackdown for pandering to the ultra-conservatives and refusing to accept stimulus funds for our struggling State. So, he ran for the hills to pout. Awesome lesson, "Dad". His four young sons are being shown a pour and sickly version of what it means to be a man. When you get beat-up, you pick yourself up by the bootstraps and carry-on! Young Sanford men, listen to me, "Do not follow you "father's" weak example. If you get punched in the mouth, fight back." Camping and hiking, on Father's day, with out your four young sons.......it baffles the senses. It's shameful parenting.

Also, we should not forget the security breach and the waste of taxpayer dollars. But, that'll be another post, I guess.

It was "Naked Hiking Weekend" last weekend. No shit. I can't make this stuff up. I can only imagine what was going on with and ultraconservative Republican Governor in the middle of the woods, in the 90 degree southern heat, with bunch of naked "naturalist". hahahahahhahaah That sounds like a PARTY!
