Wealth Distribution in America

Retraction: a person earning 46,000/year could live for 21,000 years and not spend 1 billion.
I made two errors in that calculation, setting it off by a factor of 10 twice.

Excellent. We need more dialog that questions the validity of the 'rat-race' to begin with. Extra thanks for focusing on those who believe in the notion of the middle class.
Visited your blog. Pretty good!

Great video and great points through out. I have heard explanations of wealth distribution in America many times and this has to be one of the best. And I agree that one billion dollars is probably to much money for one person to have or use.

Once again you get a great point across, and i love how you ended it with "what would jesus do?" I think he would burn the money and tell people to share goods....But that's Jesus he was just our supposed savior.

Great job. It's attention grabbing, concise, and gets to the point. I knew the distribution of wealth in America was screwed up, but those stats are astonishing!

The rich will remain rich, and as in the last 8 months the poor will continue to get poorer.

I differ with you asherp, you apparently want fascist socialism... I, on the other hand do not.
.... and by the way, give 40% of seized assets to who?.... and who decides who gets the ill-gotten gains?.... another bureaucracy to determine those who will be "robbed," and those who are "worthy"...yeah, that'll work!,,,bwahahahahaa

Duh!! Do you think businesses expect to create jobs that don't pay adequately enough that those same employees (also consumers) can't purchase the good services they produce?
True, not everyone can afford to buy a product that they may be a part of producing, but how is that relevant? Not every product or service is necessary for every individual in equal portions or needs...as an example you may have need of a MRI scan, but do you need to be able to buy the whole damned MRI machine to have the scan?
You say ~ "Either wealth needs to be redistributed voluntarily by paying workers enough to buy the products they make in the factories owned by these rich folks, {or THROUGH FORCE}"
Hm-m-m, you mean government should control all aspects of manufacturing, commerce, finance, and agriculture, with planning boards to set product lines, production levels, prices, wages, working conditions, and the size of firms.
Licensing is ubiquitous; no economic activity can be undertaken without government permission, with levels of consumption being dictated by the state, and “excess” incomes have to be surrendered as taxes or “loans.”asherp......That my friend is fascism, pure and simple.

You don't listen well.
I'm advocating taxing the shit out of the richest 10% and giving the 40% of Americans who share only 1% of the nations' wealth, public goods, and spending money, which they will use to fuel the economy.
Maybe with access to more capital, there will be no more large corporations, only small businesses that are directly responsive to their clients and workers will spring up all over the USA. That would be fantastic.
Should the PUBLIC control all aspects of manufacturing, commerce, finance, and agriculture? Yes. The people who work in factories should have a meaningful say in how the company they work for is run. People should have a say in whether or not their environment is polluted.
You're wrong about Fascism. Fascism is when the corporations run the show. That's what we have NOW.
What *I'm* describing is democratic socialism, and it's worked with ubiquitous success.

Without income redistribution, capitalism is not sustainable.
Money is like a balloon full of helium. It goes one way-- up.
If you don't take some from the top and put it back at the bottom, it's just going to sit there at the top, doing nobody any good.

asherp, I am acquainted with a number of very wealthy people (& no, unfortunately I'm not one of them), & what I've observed is that they have their money working funding & creating new industries & businesses that create jobs (thereby employing people - imagine that!), & which also opens up opportunities for other enterprising people to capitalize on developing new supportive infrastructural businesses to service those new capital market ventures (also employing more people - imagine that!).
What good happens when government taxes, i.e. "takes" from the wealthy to re-distribute to the underprivileged?. . NOTHING!
All that really happens are more bloated government agencies that mismanages & channels that "new " revenue into even more worthless bureaucratic nightmares.
It sure as blazes doesn't "fuel" the economy!

So when these people create these new industries... who the fuck is supposed to buy their products if they end up with all the money and don't pay their workers enough?
Either wealth needs to be redistributed voluntarily by paying workers enough to buy the products they make in the factories owned by these rich folks, or through force.
Otherwise, what you end up with is Somalia.
