In a statement, the FAI says "The blatantly incorrect decision by the referee to award the goal has damaged the integrity of the sport and we now call on FIFA, as the world governing body for our sport, to organise for this match to be replayed..."

The truth is that FIFA would rather France stayed in the world cup because a small country like Ireland would generate less than 20% of the revenue. It's also worth mentioning the fact that FIFA is a French organisation with it's own political agendas and patriotic pressure. I watched the match live and noted the huge delay in showing a replay of the hand ball assisted goal which was also offside.
The whole thing stinks much like the common Frenchman

Terry wont be going to Ireland in a hurry. Refs should be held to account for making such bad decisions it's there job to enforce the rules. Players will cheat if they think they can get away with it. I agree the video replays should be used not for everything but on red card decisions and the validity of goals when they are disputed.

Mr_Ben:
Your first point is a bit harsh on the ref who actually had a very good game. I think Henry got very lucky with location of where he committed 'the act'. The ref was behind, unsighted by a crowd of players and the linesman was on the opposite side of the pitch again with the crowd obstructing his view. Perhaps he could have taken the Irish players reactions into account, when that many players are that irate and adamant it's usually a good indicator and a couple of the French looked very sheepish.

Not gonna happen I'm afraid, the only positive could be that it's another tiny step towards lobbying FIFA for video evidence for critical decisions in top flight. Even then it should only be used in key moments where the outcome of games can be affected.

They should be given a rematch. However, new conditions must be imposed on the match, so that no team ever in the future will demand a rematch and no player will ever want to find himself in Henry's position.
Fans can vote, but FIFA might let the Referees decide on the terms, since few refs will be willing to officiate a naked football match. - 2 years ago

I can see why the Irish are fuming, but has a match ever been replayed before in these circumstances? Thought not.

Yes, there is a precedent. In 2005 Fifa ordered a replay between two teams in a world cup qualifier.
The names of the actual teams escapes me right now but this is fact :) - 2 years ago
