Sex abuser skips jail as he is too fat for prison

A church elder convicted of sexual abuse has been spared prison as his obesity would put his health in danger.

The conviction would normally carry a two and half year sentence, however the Judge has suspended this in light of John McConaghy's extreme circumstances

    • He wasn't too fat to sexually abuse someone. SMH. Couldn't the judge just suggested a facility. He's obviously housed somewhere big enough for him. SMH.

    • This sickens me, however it doesn't suprise me, possibly the church had something to do with his sentence?
      maybe if he extorted money from the government/threatened a police officer/or tried to attack the queen (and failed) he would get more than 2 and a half years, but no, sexually abusing a young person and messing up their life forever is nothing.
      and the obesity thing??!! i'm sure he would have lost a few pounds while in prison!
      but the the British justice system is a pathetic sham, infact the whole british system in itself is a sham!

    • Wow, eight years of abuse and he gets what amounts to a warning to not do it again? The punishment he's got doesn't seem to befit the crime at all.
