City Minister Lord Myners has told bankers to "come back to the real world".
He has stressed that it is unrealistic for them to expect huge bonuses in excess of a million pounds.
Lord Myners has estimated that at least 5,000 bankers in the UK will earn more than £1m this year. If RBS attempt to do the same for their high profile bankers the treasury intend to interneve in the interest of taxpayers.
