Was this apparently spontaneous picture of a wolf jumping over a countryside gate, hailed as a triumph of patience and awarded with a £10,000 photography competiion prize, actually set up?

José Luis Rodriguez,, winner of the prestigious Veolia Environnement Wildlife photographer of the year competition, has been accused of using a tame Iberian wolf that was trained to jumped the fence.

Skeptics claim a wild wolf would have simply slipped through the gap in the fence rather than climbed over it. Evidence, apparently from rival photographers, claims the pictured animal is a wolf called Ossian who lives at a zoological park near Madrid.

José Luis Rodriguez hasn't commented but the competition's judges have confirmed they're reconvening to discuss the matter.
