When faced with men who asked him for money and beat him to the ground in an attempt to rob him, 69 year old Tony Edwards used his past experiences as a professional wrestler to defend himself.
One of the robbers jumped on his back whilst the other kicked him in the abdomen, however Mr Edwards quick thinking led him to bash one of the men with his shopping bags which were full of cans. The pair (two white males in the 20s or 30s) then ran off leaving the brave pensioner with bruising to his side and abdomen.
Mr Edwards, who has lived in Newark for about 30 years, worked as in an all-in wrestler for eight and a half years, but said his experience playing rugby also helped him.
