Tabloid papers this week reported that current captain, John Terry, has been playing away from home with the former partner of England team-mate Wayne Bridge, Vanessa Perroncel. And with the World Cup fast approaching this summer, many are doubting that he will be able to command the much needed respect amongst the dressing room.
So who will lead the England team to glory this summer? Reports suggest that Manchester United's Wayne Rooney is the front runner, and with the striker on top form this season, he is also England's most naturally gifted player. Other candidates for the role include Steven Gerrard, Rio Ferdinand and Frank Lampard, whilst some have called for David Beckham to make a return to his former post. What do you think?

Next England captain will be the current one. Englands Brave John Terry. The FA don't have the balls to drop him and Capello just doesn't care as he doesn't see the point of the Captain job being full time. He would rather appoint on a game to game basis.
As for the other candidates.
Rio Ferdinand - 9 month ban for forgetting to pee in a pot
Wayne Rooney - caught shagging a mature prostitute
Steven Gerrard - beat up a DJ for not taking requests
David Beckham - extra marital affair with Rebecca Loos last time he was in the job
Frank Lampard - starred in a roasting sex vid while on holiday in cyprusSo should their off field antics affect who leads them on the pitch?

But isn't the England captain meant to be a talisman, someone to look up to, not only for the players, but also the fans. And this isn't the first scandal he's been caught up in remember.

I think this is just the press stirring up a fuss. I don't agree with what he did particularly but what he does off the pitch in his own time doesn't have a lot to do with what he does on it.
The "affecting dressing room morale" theory is a load of nonsense. Most of them probably knew about it and don't most footballers play away anyway?
Judge him by his footballing skills and failures, not his private life.
