Gordon Brown is up to nine bananas a day as part of a health drive to wean him off kitkats.
Apparently his wife has ordered his new healthy eating habits and the bananas are intended to give him energy to get him through long days at number 10.
A Downing Street source is quoted as saying: "Like with everything, Gordon is an obsessive. Bananas are his big thing now – he can't get enough of them."
