US school cancels prom over 'lesbian date'

A school board in the US state of Mississippi has cancelled a high school prom after a female student asked to attend with her girlfriend.
The cancellation comes due to what the school calls "distractions to the education system".
After the student approached the school asking to bring her girlfriend to the prom a memo circulated prohibiting same-sex dates.
