Beer and cider to be served in Aussie "Schooners"

Fancy going for a "schooner" doesn't really have the same ring to it as the classic chat-up line "fancy a pint?", but that is what the government is hoping we will ask for when we head to the pub - all in a bid to make us drink less.
In a move to change alcohol measures the government wants British pubs and bars to sell beer and cider in Australian-style schooner glasses - which are about two thirds the size of a pint.
Rules for wine are also set to change, with servings to be made available in 50ml and 70ml-size glasses, much less than the current minimum pubs are legally allowed to offer.
Science Minister David Willetts said: "We have listened to consumers and businesses. They have called for fixed quantities to be kept but with greater flexibility. That is what this change will deliver.
"We are freeing business so they can innovate and create new products to meet the demands of their customers."
Brigid Simmons, of The British Beer & Pub Association, welcomed the news: "While the pint remains a great British icon, the two thirds measure will give greater flexibility over how beer is served."
She added the new measure was likely to encourage more women to drink beer.
Ms Simmons said: "This is particularly important when it comes to encouraging more women to choose beer, as many avoid the traditional pint glass."
Really Brigid? We beg to differ, a pint glass makes you look like you have very lady-like hands!
