After knowing that I have spent under a pound (less than a US dollar) on the Royalty this year, and considering they gave me 2 DAYS off to celebrate the geniune love these real people have for each other... and considering the fact that in the UK gay people are able to have civil partnerships with the same legal rights as marriage (unlike so many western countries)... and considering that all the world's press and media discovered British luxury brands and British designers such as Alexander McQueen and Sarah Burton as a result... and considering that the world suddenly cared (again) what Victoria Beckham and others Brit's were wearing... when this country is so small and considered by many to be so inconsequential... and those same people would prefer it is the Brits "just climb back into a hole" so that they would never again have the chance to appear on the world stage again... And so that they would never again have any reason to speak of any challenge by rebellious brands for prestige that might fight against such snobbery... (thus making an even bigger market for British products)... I would have to say that I am fundamentally apposed to any type of royal wedding. I think they should stay quiet and forget the difference they can make... they should forget the dreams and fantasies they live out for themselves and others, they should trash history, so that we can... all feel equal.... so that we can.... all feel like guest stars on the latest episode of Jerry Springer. Then and only then can we all colllect our reality ticket, identify with who we are, and move forward. And yes, I do feel the need to tear others down so that I might feel OK about what I have achieved to date. What other excuse or inspiration would I have?
I know it's wrong. But I don't care. It's fantasy. And it has been tragedy. The need to see Di in the press is what killed her. But for William & Kate, I hope there will be a more equal balance of love, in the private and public lives they lead. And that their roles and responsibilities will be scaled back a bit to allow them this fundamental human right... In turn, I trust William will be inspired to relate to and make a difference to everyday people... and royalty will renew itself, like every generation has... As generations become a reflection of their time, rather than their past.
There's no need to judge them now for this though. Now, they are a couple in love. And a wedding is never a thing anyone should be a heckler at. (And yes, I have paid taxes in this country long enoungh to be bitter... but love does not justify bitterness - no matter how fashionable it might be for my lie minded liberal friends).
And of course, I would hope that it is easy to see that most of these comments are sarcastic. I wish Will and Kate well. I hope they make a difference in our world... so I won't feel like they are mis-guided selfish people... And I look forward to when they do! But for now, their love is their focus... in a few years I will get judgemental... but for now, I am on the historic Royal honeymoon... And have enjoyed every minute of it!
Cheers to the future!
