Man gets £11,000-worth of Olympic tickets (that he can't afford)

Despite hundreds missing out on the chance to squint at tiny people playing a questionable sport from a distant stadium seat in next year's Olympics, one man has managed to bag himself £11,000 worth of tickets, having bid on a total of £36,000-worth.

Insolvency practioner Stephen Hunt says he originally didn't have enough money in his account and had to up his credit limit to pay for the tickets, but he says he hopes the cost will be worth it.

"I checked my card and there was no debit and then I received a helpful email from the ticket agency saying we've tried to take money, it's been refused but we'll give you a second chance.

"We agreed to go for it. We contacted our bank and the bank agreed to increase. It's about double what I was hoping for.

"I'd rather scrimp and save for a bit extra then be disappointed," he said.

Hunt says he hopes the mammoth payments will secure him seats at one of the "big three" events - the opening and closing ceremonies or the men's 100 metres final.

Around 250,000 people missed out on getting tickets, including Boris Johnson who said he was 'cheesed off' when he found out he'd lost out in the online ballot.

Did you manage to get any tickets? If so, how much was the bill?

    • I thought the whole ballot system seemed an unfair way to get the tickets in the first place, which is why I am glad I didn't bother to bid for any now. I'm glad I'm not left with that bill! I went down the volunteer steward route and am waiting to hear if I have got my place for any of the events I selected, if I don't get in, at least I didn't get my hopes up too much and if I do at least I'm not out of pocket!
