Muammar Qaddafi is still giving speeches, but is anyone listening? While part of his family has turned up in Algeria, President Abdelaziz Bouteflika has given a clear message to Qaddafi himself that he is not welcome in Algeria. Leaders of the National Transitional Council as well as members of the rebellion movement believe that Qaddafi is now in Bani Walid where he is being protected by tribal leaders.
On Saturday, Qaddafi's spokesman, Moussa Ibrahim indicated that one of the largest tribes of Libya is located in the city and has pledged its full allegiance to Qaddafi. He denied any allegation that the city was about to surrender to its 'enemies'. The NTC had afforded the opposition another week to come to an agreement in order to avoid further bloodshed, but it seems that the fighting forces do not want to wait any longer. Bani Walid lies about 100 miles southeast of Tripoli.
