9/11 ten years later and Muslims still angry with America

Steven Kull, director of the Program on International Policy Attitudes and author of the recently released book, Feeling Betrayed: The Roots of Muslim Anger at America , authored an interesting editorial which appeared in World Public Opinion today. The questions raised within the narrative are most likely the same that most of us in America ask, and at times, the answers we receive from either the media or our leaders are misleading.
With all due respect to Steven Kull, who apparently has researched his subject for half a decade, and spent time discussing with Muslims the reasons for their resentment of America, it is difficult to embrace the mantra that Muslims would like to live their lives unhindered and untouched by the West. In this era of globalization, it is difficult to see how ⅕ of the world’s population will manage to survive without outside contact with the rest of the globe.
The United States of America, democratic as it may be, is really not interested in exporting democracy to the Arab world or anywhere else. This has been the refrain given to us by our politicians when they are faced with situations which do not please them in other parts of the world. Did you ever imagine that one day, we would actually be watching RT News in our own living rooms? Russia, and the former USSR, at one time was the monster du jour. Communism was evil and we had to do everything to stop it from spreading. The USSR was a nuclear power, bent on our destruction. So, let’s start a war in Vietnam to stop the spread of communism. How did that go for you, America?
