I saw the entire program on Current TV today. In "Islamophobia" Adam Yamaguchi and an Islamic scholar create this premise: They want the viewer to believe that the "radical" anti-Islamic groups springing up in the US and abroad are only the tip of the iceberg (sound familiar), that these groups MAY represent MANY Americans that are to be feared. These groups may destroy the very fabric of this country. Anti-Islamic groups are "radical," they say, but dare anyone to refer to Islam as radical and they will be labeled a "hater." FACT: The great majority of Americans are not haters of Islam or racist; however, "Islamophobia" attempts to paint them as such. And by doing so, if you as an ordinary peace-loving citizen of the US, express concern over the nature of the Islamic faith, you can be certain that you will be vilified on Current TV. Should we weigh the number of violent acts performed in the name of Islam around the world with the number of violent acts perpetrated by, say, Christians? What do you think that scale would demonstrate? And that is not to say that ALL Muslims are terrorists, but just as "Islamophobia" tries to create this fear that more and more average Americans are becoming anti-Muslim, so can we not likewise say that more and more Muslims are becoming anti-American?
Follow the logic. "Islamophobia" does nothing to help non-Muslims understand Islam, nor does it help Muslims understand non-Muslims. Rather, it paints groups as extremist in order to create more fear and hate. What we need is for peace-loving Muslims to be more active in their communities. We need to see them speaking out more in the name of peace, and in support of the US and the Constitution. We need forums where Muslims and non-Muslims can find common ground. Until then, the suspicion may grow. - 1 month ago

@queenB,and where in my posts have i suggested that ALL Muslims are bad people,DICK HEAD !
The only thing that you are "simply" doing is being abusive because you don't know what you are talking about.
Im against certain aspects of ISLAM,not bloody MUSLIMS,you can't seem to make a distinction between the two !
MUSLIMS are the first victims of ISLAM,just look around the Islamic world and see how Muslims are forced to live under Islam ?
Do your self a favour, stop being abusive, educate yourself and stop making baseless assumptions about people who have concerns on a subject."Blah Blah Blah yawn you're boring me ",how old are you ?
The reason you are bored is you no idea of what you are talking about.
All you have done is insult people by calling them uneducated,Nazi's and dick heads, you have not made one valid argument. Now,come back with a salient point or piss off because you REALLY are boring!!

I did not write those posts, they are off of the net you idiot, there for all to see the truth about Islam.I don't have an "obsession" with Muslims but i DO have grave concerns about Islam,it is backwards and barbaric and should not be allowed any special treatment in the West.
Your trouble is that you think that we don't know anything about Islam, you could not be more wrong.I have a copy of the Qur'an,i go on the net to see the Hadith and im a great lover of history. On top of that i can go on the net and get whatever information i need from many different sources.

The Old Testament and the Qur'an,surely not !
A Brief Introduction to the Qur'an: The Qur'an and the Old Testament
01/23/2009 - Colin Smith
One of the prominent ideas set forth within the Qur'an is that of continuity with previous revelation, namely Judaism and Christianity (e.g., sura 2:87-91). Sura 2 teaches that in the beginning all people were one community, presumably with a single religion. Allah provided mankind with a Book with which to judge disputes that arose among people, and sent prophets to show the way, and to warn the people when they disobeyed the revelation given to them (2:213; see also 35:24; 13:7).
In light of this, the Qur'an draws particularly from stories concerning Old Testament prophets to illustrate Muhammad's warnings, and teach regarding obedience and faithfulness to Allah and his commands. There are two things particularly noteworthy about the Qur'anic use of the Old Testament: first, the stories are always presented as teaching tools to make a present-day (at least for Muhammad) point; second, they are rarely, if ever, presented without embellishment--sometimes to the point where the original Old Testament story is barely discernable.
The lessons taught by the Qur'an through the use of Old Testament stories tend to revolve around similar themes: Allah's faithfulness to believers, and warnings against those who are unfaithful, or who reject the warnings of the prophets (or Prophet: Muhammad). Sura 38 laments the fact that people disparaged the Warner that Allah had raised up within their midst. They neither gave him respect, nor believed the message he brought to them. In contrast, the Qur'an sets forth a story wherein two men visited with David and asked him to arbitrate a dispute. One man had ninety-nine ewes, while the other had only one. The man with the ninety-nine demanded that the other give him his one. David rebuked the man for his selfishness then realized that God was using this dispute to point out his own sin. David fell down in repentance, and God forgave him his transgression. In other words, those who disparage Allah's Messenger should rather be like David, who recognized the divine purpose behind his visitors and turned from his sin.
The background for this story is David's adulterous relationship with Bathsheba, and Nathan's subsequent visit to David where he recounted the story of the two men as a means of bringing conviction to David's heart over his sin (2 Samuel 12:1-15). The differences between the Qur'an and the Bible are clear: in the Qur'an there is no mention of Nathan, and the people in Nathan's story become literal men. Also, the focus of the Biblical story is how God brought repentance and restoration to David after committing gross sin. The Qur'anic version, however, places the emphasis on the faithfulness of the men who came to David.
Sura 11:96-99 gives Moses as an example of a messenger sent by Allah with Clear Signs and authority to Pharaoh and his Chiefs. The purpose of this example is to show that true prophets are often ignored and their messages are more likely to fall upon deaf ears. This was certainly the case with Pharaoh and his Chiefs since his Chiefs preferred to listen to Pharaoh than Moses, but Pharaoh was not equipped of Allah to rightly lead.
In sura 21, the Qur'an tells brief stories about Abraham, Lot, Moses, David, Solomon, and others to illustrate Allah's provision of protection and a means of escape from the midst of difficulty. Some of these tales merely give an overview with little embellishment. For example, Allah delivered Noah and his family from the evil people of his age by means of the flood, and Allah rescued Lot from the town wherein the people practiced abominations. Other stories give extra-Biblical details, or, in some cases, complete re-writes of the Biblical account. The story in Genesis 12 where Abraham leaves his home country at the Lord's bidding does not contain any reference to the idolatry of his people. However, sura 21:51-70 tells of Abraham breaking his fathers idols and challenging his idolatrous kinsmen to converse with their idols. The people respond by attempting to burn Abraham, but Allah thwarts their plan by making the fire a protection for him. This event is not recorded in the Genesis account, but is stated in the Qur'an as a historical event demonstrating Allah's deliverance of his faithful messenger.
Sura 12 is the most detailed retelling of an Old Testament story in the Qur'an. It recounts the story of Joseph in a way that appears at first to be simply a paraphrase of the Biblical account; however, the story soon deviates from the Biblical narrative. Instead of being accused of molesting Potipher's wife, Joseph is vindicated by eyewitnesses but chooses prison over being under her control (28-35). This testifies to the Islamic attitude toward the prophet: Allah will not permit him to be shamed. For the Muslim, the idea of Joseph being accused and convicted of impropriety with Potipher's wife would be as unthinkable as a prophet being executed as a criminal on a common cross.
The fate of the baker is that he would hang from the cross (41). In Genesis 41, the cupbearer eventually remembers Joseph when Pharaoh asks for an interpretation to his dreams, and Pharaoh sends for him. In the Qur'an, the cupbearer learns the interpretation from Joseph and reports back. However, somewhere between 12:49 and 12:50, Pharaoh learns that the interpretation is Joseph's such that he then sends for him. Joseph does not come immediately, recalling that he asked to be imprisoned rather than spend his time under the control of a woman who tried to blacken his name. He receives assurance that no woman would ruin his reputation, and he would come into Pharaoh's presence directly, with honor and rank. This is all, of course, absent from the Genesis account. Further, in the Qur'an, Joseph demands to be set over the storehouses, whereas in Genesis Joseph merely recommends that someone be put in that position, and Pharaoh, finding no other worthy candidate, offers the job to Joseph.
There are many other examples of Old Testament stories that appear in a somewhat different form in the Qur'an, but these few demonstrate the point more than adequately. In the next installment, we shall look at the Qur'anic treatment of John the Baptist, Mary, and Jesus. - 6 months ago

Oh no,now that pesky little Grand Mufti of Jerusalem who spent the war with Hitler has turned up !
Haj Mohammed Effendi Amin el-Husseini (Arabic: محمد أمين الحسيني, also al-Husayni,[1]Hajj, and Al-Hajj; born 1895 or 1897; died July 4, 1974) was a Palestinian Arab nationalist and Muslim leader in the British Mandate of Palestine. From as early as 1920, in order to secure the independence of Palestine as an Arab state he actively opposed Zionism, and was implicated as a leader of a violent riot that broke out over the establishment of a national home for the Jewish people in Palestine.[2] From 1921 to 1937[3] al-Husseini was the Grand Mufti of Jerusalem, using the position to promote Islam and rally Palestinian nationalism against Zionism.
His opposition to the British started during the 1936-1939 Arab revolt in Palestine. In 1937, evading an arrest warrant, he fled Palestine and took refuge in, successively, the French Mandate of Lebanon and the Kingdom of Iraq, until he established himself in Italy and finally Germany. During World War II he actively collaborated with both Nazi Germany and Fascist Italy, meeting Adolf Hitler personally and asking him to back Arab independence. He requested, as part of the Pan-Arab struggle, Hitler's support to oppose the establishment in Palestine of a Jewish national home. He was promised the leadership of the Arabs after German troops had driven out the British.[4] He helped recruit Muslims for the Waffen-SS. At war's end, he came under French protection, and managed to slip away to Cairo to avoid eventual prosecution.
During the 1948 Palestine War, Husseini represented the Arab Higher Committee and opposed both the 1947 UN Partition Plan and King Abdullah's entente with Zionists to annex the Arab part of British Mandatory Palestine to Jordan. In September 1948, he participated in establishment of All-Palestine Government. Seated in Egyptian ruled Gaza, this government won a limited recognition of Arab states, but was eventually dissolved by Gamal Nasser in 1959. After the war and subsequent Palestinian exodus, his claims to leadership, wholly discredited, left him eventually sidelined by the Palestine Liberation Organization, and he lost most of his residual political influence.[5] He died in Beirut, Lebanon, in July 1974.
Husseini was and remains a highly controversed figure. Historians debate to what extent his fierce opposition to Zionism was grounded in nationalism or antisemitism or a combination of both. - 6 months ago

The Islamic World expansion, 622-750
Expansion 622-632
Expansion 632-661
Expansion 661-750
Muslim history involves the history of the Islamic faith as a religion and as a social institution. The history of Islam began in Arabia with the Islamic prophet Muhammad's first recitations of the Qur'an in the 7th century. Under the Rashidun and Umayyads, the Caliphate grew rapidly geographically expansion of Muslim power well beyond the Arabian Peninsula in the form of a vast Muslim Empire with an area of influence that stretched from northwest India, across Central Asia, the Middle East, North Africa, southern Italy, and the Iberian Peninsula, to the Pyrenees.
During much of the 20th century, the Islamic identity and the dominance of Islam on political issues have arguably increased during the early 21st century. The fast-growing Western interests in Islamic regions, international conflicts and globalization have changed the influence of Islam on the world in contemporary history.[6] - 6 months ago

@beaches,Islam is not compatible with western civilisation, that's not being hateful,it's a fact. You mention Christian violence,it did happen but it is not a problem in this day and age,the same can't be said of Islam.Name me just one Islamic country that has "moderation, understanding and dialogue" when it comes to minority groups ?
Have you read the Qur'an or Hadith ? There's nothing good in them for non Muslims.Remember when you read the Qur'an that unlike Christianity Islam
is NOT allowed to be changed or to evolve and there in lies the problem.
You can not have "moderation, understanding and dialogue",you can only
submit to it. - 6 months ago

For someone who calls himself 'Essexboy' the 'leave out the stereotyping' request has a certain irony. The UK has never 'belonged' to any one culture or religious group. Some of the worst violence we have witnessed has been a result of Christian factionism both at home and abroad. Extremes in any religion - including Muslim - are harmful just as extremes in any political ideology can divide and lead to atrocities. Moderation, understanding and dialogue are what help Britain rise above bigotry and they should be valued more. Nice talking to you.

Firstly the EDL is not full of racist thugs and Muslims are not all fluffy, peaceful hard working people,so can we all leave out the stereotyping.
Islam is not nor has it ever been a "religion of peace",it is inherently violent.
Now as a poster has already stated, parts of the Bible are violent but using
that argument is not valid for two reasons.1-Violent passages of the Bible are mostly if not all in the Old Testament
and that has been abrogated by the New Testament, the FINAL word
of God,if you believe in all that.2-The Qur'an is (as Muslim's see it)the immutable word of God for all time,
it CAN NOT be changed or altered and MUST be adhered to.
Now where does the Qur'an come from ? It's the Old Testament
with a Mohammed added twist, don't believe me? Read them !
There is slightly more to it than that, did you know that the first versions
of the Qur'an were destroyed at the order an early Caliph ?
The Islamic violence that you see all over the world to day comes
from their version of the Old Testament. Now if we move onto so called "moderate" Muslims,no such thing im afraid.
Islam is not moderate, look at the manifestos of groups like the Muslim parliament
of Great Britain(divisive by it's very name),or Muslim council of Britain,to them integrating is not part of the plan, advancing Islam IS.Then we have hate preachers in many Mosques and no go areas for non Muslims in our towns and cities, yet you tell me that we don't have a problem?Another poster mentions the West attacking Muslim countries, well here's a list of modern day countries that have been invaded by Muslim armies throughout history.
Iran
Iraq
Jordan
Syria
Israel
Turkey
Egypt
Libya
Algeria
Morocco
Spain
France
Austria
Greece
Italy
Malta
Russia
Crotia
Bosnia
Serbia
India
Afghanistan
ChinaAnd many more !
Yet another poster mentions the "Nazi" word, bit strange using that word in defence of Islam ??
The grand mufti of Jerusalem spent world war two with Hitler and the SS had Muslim brigades in it,the Handschar i think they were called.Be a bit careful when you call a person a Nazi for opposing Islam, they may bring this FACT up
or they may even show you pictures of Hamas and Hezbollah members in their thousands giving the Nazi salute. One last thing,@beaches,Muslims are not a race!!

bigotry and thuggery won't get the EDL anywhere. Even their precious leader 'Tommy" ( not his real name) is an Irish immigrant - no problem with that - Britain has and should always be a melting pot for cultures. Stories like that fuel the unease about muslims and their ways. With 40% of muslims living in the UK wanting sharia adopted into the mainstream you can understand why the vast majority of the population are'nt so eager to allow such a thing to happen. Pakistani extremist groups plant bombs at several places including India Gate, out of which the ones at Karol Bagh, Connaught Place and Greater Kailash explode leaving around 30 people dead and 130 injured, followed by another attack two weeks later at the congested Mehrauli area, leaving 3 people dead.
26 November 2008 – Muslim extremists kill at least 174 people and wound numerous others in a series of coordinated attacks on India's largest city and financial capital, Mumbai. The government of India blamed Pakistan based militant group Lashkar-e-Taiba and stated that the terrorists killed/caught were citizens of Pakistan, a claim which the Pakistani government first refused but then accepted when given proof. Ajmal Kasab, one of the terrorists, was caught alive.[179][180]
25 October 2009. Baghdad, Iraq. During a terrorist attack, two bomber vehicles detonated in the Green Zone, killing at least 155 people and injuring 520.
28 October 2009 – Peshawar, Pakistan. A car bomb is detonated in a woman exclusive shopping district, and over 110 killed and over 200 injured.
3 December 2009 – Mogadishu, Somalia. A male suicide bomber disguised as a woman detonates in a hotel meeting hall. The hotel was hosting a graduation ceremony for local medical students when the blast went off, killing four government ministers as well as other civilians.[181]
1 January 2010 – Lakki Marwat, Pakistan. A suicide car bomber drove his explosive-laden vehicle into a volleyball pitch as people gathered to watch a match killing more than 100 people.[182]
1 May 2010 - New York, New York, USA. Faisal Shahzad, an Islamic Pakistani American who received U.S. citizenship in December 2009, attempted to detonate a car bomb in Times Square working with the Pakistani Taliban or Tehrik-i-Taliban Pakistan.
13 May 2011 - Tehrik-i-Taliban Pakistan claimed attacks on two mosques simultaneously belonging to the Ahmadiyya Muslim Community, killing nearly 100 and injuring many others.[183]
13 July 2011 - Three bombs exploded at different locations in Mumbai, perpetrated by Indian Mujahideen. - 6 months ago

The marriage rules, just like the Muslim extremists you fear so much are an extreme minority! The fact that british muslims have felt they have to set up the Muslim defense league against the likes of the EDL is sad... You EDL are bigots. Britain is a multicultural country, always has been. I would say get used to it, but considering its been this way since 1066 at the very latest! I think you and your idiot friends have had long enough ... And about the marriage rules, look at the ones from catholic countries in south America, 20 year olds marrying girls aged 10...

The MDL themselves state that the group was setup after the 9/11 attacks by a guy in Bradford because of the anti muslim backlash. It had sod all todo with the likes of the EDL/BNP or any other group. And lets be honest the MDL are the exact mirror image of the EDL. They both go into town centres, bark at each other from behind police lines and then go home and pat each other on the back via facebook.

In reality there is a small group of Islamists who wasnt to attack "Western" values. They want the West to unite against all Islam and encourage fear. By doing this they are trying to create an unbridgeable divide so they can rally more to their cause.
The more the West fears anyone of Islamic faith the more that those of Islamic faith will have to rally around the radicals as the West will have rejected them.
It is a minority who want to create these divides. All religions, including Christianity, have in their scriptures "fight the unbelivers", "spread the faith".
At the end of the day most people want to be able to get up, go to work, look after their families, and feel safe - I think that is a universal truth.

A Muslim woman told me recently that she believed Islam would rule the world in the next 20-30 years... the UK in the next 10 and that I should get used to the idea. I hate the whole situation and which people could be civil, but when threats like that are being made, I think people have every right to be upset.

Maybe if Islam didn't demand the hatred of all non believers or encourage following Mohammeds example that included marrying a 6 year old and having sex when she was aged 9.
CarlDouglass we could never get on as Islam only respects other followers. All "Infidels" are hated and enemys. - 6 months ago
