Ever the showman, Silvio Berlusconi looks set to have quite a starry line-up when he faces charges of sex with an underage prostitute.

The court holding Berlusconi’s trial has announced that Hollywood actor George Clooney and football star Cristiano Ronaldo could be among the witnesses called to testify at hearings.

Both men have been called to appear as defence witnesses as they attended parties at Berlusconi’s house, according to the former prime minister’s lawyer Niccolo Ghedini.

Prosecutors allege that Berlusconi repeatedly paid for sex with underage prostitute Karima el Mahroug – nicknamed Ruby the Heart-Stealer – and then abused his position by getting her freed from jail following her arrest for theft.

Berlusconi faces up to 15 years in jail if found guilty of charges – also including abuse of office – he faces at his trial.

Current will be showing Videocracy – a documentary about Berlusconi’s control of the TV industry – on December 12th.
