President Obama, vetoing the NDAA is your job!

The NDAA, Sec.1031 is the hammer coming down on the last nail of the democracy coffin. It is so egregious that any president worth their salt wouldn't even have to say they will veto it because it should be a given. When a president takes the oath of office at their inauguration they promise to protect and defend the constitution:

The oath to be taken by the president on first entering office is specified in Article II, Section 1, of the Constitution:

"I do solemnly swear (or affirm) that I will faithfully execute the office of President of the United States, and will to the best of my ability, preserve, protect, and defend the Constitution of the United States."

This is part of their job. It is nothing extraordinary to veto such a bill. There shouldn't even be any doubt regarding what any U.S. president's actions would be regarding it. However, in this current atmosphere of political theatre everything is used for political points, even our liberties.

Therefore, I just wanted to say that should President Obama veto this it will not be seen by me as anything extraordinary that will have me forgive any other transgressions or policy criticisms especially regarding the environment. He will not be able to use this for political gain to wipe the slate clean so to speak. And I do believe that his advisors are pondering the advantages of playing this up regarding the political mileage it could get.

Even though under him the Patriot Act has been extended; he allows the targeting of American civilians already abroad without trial; the fact that the Military Commissions Act is still in force; and he has still said nothing about the infiltration of Homeland Security into Occupy protests. Therefore any attempt to play this up as if he has saved us all from the jaws of fascism will actually look politically contrived to me. I tend to want to see consistency in policy.

I would also like to believe I live in a country where such unconstitutional intrusions on our civil liberties would not even see the light of day at all but unfortunately, that isn't the case. However, there are still some glimmers of hope here. The people are waking up and by doing so those in power hard as they may try to hold that tide back will eventually be unable to and they know it. Freedom cannot be constricted by a piece of paper nor by men who place their own laws above the laws of nature.

So President Obama, I ask you to do your job in vetoing this hideous piece of fascist pablum, and for that you will get my thanks. However, I will not in any other way compromise my principles to give you carte blanche or suddenly develop short term memory loss regarding the damage that has already been done that you condoned and took part in. I will also not forgive this Congress that is now little more than a facilitator of tin horn policy. Bottomline then to all of you as employees of the American people: DO YOUR JOB.

    • Only one presidential candidate voted against this abomination and that is Ron Paul. He is the only candidate not on the CFR. Do you think a Republican president could have actually gotten this passed? Obama is a Trojan Horse.

    • Stop campaigning here and trying to sell us on this one or that one and stand up now! I didn't put this here to campaign for Ron Paul or anyone else. If we don't join together NOW regardless of who the King, uh, I mean president is we won't have a country. Does that get through? So SICK of the damn political campaigning here and elsewhere. THE ENTIRE SYSTEM IS CORRUPTED. ONE man is not going to save us. Only we can do that.

I see it a little differently. I think we are held hostage by the antigovernment, antiscience tea party.
A president has little power without the support of congress which is supposed to represent we the people. But we the democrats let the tea party take over by not voting.
The entire system has ALWAYS been corrupted. Only we can change things by voting even if it's for the lesser of evils.

No offense but if you post a post... in a political forum... during an election year...expect to get some people chiming in and supporting their candidates. When you say only we can stop it what do you suggest? We, as citizens have 2 choices: Vote, or take up arms. I think I can guess which one is more appealing with the least externalities. So while the entire system may be Corrupt* One man stands alone as uncorruptable. Ron Paul 2012 For Liberty!

I voted in the mid-term election too. But, as usual for mid-terms, most democrats didn't turn out.
So this is what we're stuck with: rethuglicans willing to bring down our country and the rest of the world in order to bring down 'that upstart Obama.'
And progressives are playing right into their dirty little hands.
I'm all for a revolution but who is our candidate? Anonymous???
      Maybe I'll write-in Bernie Sanders.

I'm not playing into anyone's hands. I'm exercising my right to freedom of choice and standing up for civil liberties over the very partisan politics that has destroyed them. And since Obama is going to sign this bill, he is no better than a "rethuglican" to me. Perhaps he would have more supporting him if he didn't kiss their a&&&es so much.

      Sadly I agree.
      This is quite the conundrum.
      Are you suggesting a boycott?
We have a year to do something really creative before the election.
      And then there's 12/21/12......................

    • Lose your freedom or vote Ron Paul your choice... Yeah yeah yeah i know some of you'll hate the man but think about it for a second. Name 1 other candidate for president that would protect your freedoms. Seriously just 1. If you stated anybody but Ron Paul you are seriously kidding yourself even Obama has fallen immensely short of the line on this one.

if you are suggesting that Ron Paul will go where the money tells him then think again! He is the only politician who challenges you to check his voting record because he votes how he says he will and he has always voted to uphold the constitution.

    • If he doesnt veto this it will be the end of the United States of America, you can use the constitution as toilet paper as it will have just as much value, it will no longer be a free country and wont be worth "fighting for" anymore, it will become truly a fascist police state. If it passes people may think life will go on as usual but there will come a day when the military is knocking on a citizens door to take them off to a camp and they will erroneously say "you can do this this is a America" erroneously because it wont be America any more, just hope it isnt you because hope will all that will be left between you and such a possibility the former constitution will no longer protect anyone.

It will too be worth fighting for ! What makes this country great is the people that live in it and the beautiful land around us . We were all deceived , betrayed , do you really want to take that lying down ? OCCUPY !

    • If he doesn't veto this bill, everything I have taught about the founding of this country and the beauty of our Constitution will have been a lie...that pisses me off big time...I have a real bad feeling that he is going to cave again...and what to hell was he doing asking for changes to the legislation if he was going to veto it anyway...

It troubles me that it is the same small group of people on here talking to and generally agreeing with each other about this stuff...oh there is the occasional misplaced troll or psycho wingnut, but mostly its the same folks...there should be more...or are people already getting too scared to speak their minds in public forums like this?...if that is the case...oh man....

Maybe he doesn't see it this way, but this issue is the defining moment of his presidency...and he could hand the election and our future to the Repubs if he doesn't veto...

Artemis6 philosophically you are dead on...however practically, I am beginning to doubt we can occupy ourselves to freedom...at some point there will need to be either a critical mass of occupiers (and we are not even close to that) or...in the meantime our ability to activate is being stripped away before our eyes due to an indifferent/and or corrupt court system and a totally corrupt political system on all levels...

Oh yes I am so ashamed you got me. Thank you for showing me the truth. I know that this NDAA bill includes scary stuff like martial law and I am against that in every way but I do support more funding for Defense.

Another thing that really pissed me off is the House passing that payroll tax cut extension with the Keystone XL Pipeline go ahead included in the bill. I don't know if the Senate will approve it, but it was a completely corrupt and sleazy move after so many people voiced their opposition. Here's another issue where the President might have to show some spine as well.

Agreed, which is why he should have said no as many of us were relaying to him right from the start, because they are sleazy enough to do this. I am hoping it doesn't pass the Senate, but then I don't get my hopes up too much anymore.

I find it hard to read. Lack of structure. All I can tell it is about the indefinate Detention of Americans during the war on terror. Why would the President veto a bill he proposed? Remember this next November.
